Whenever the sun dropped and the blue sky came up, my father and I used to climb the mountain near my house. Walking together, my father and I used to have a lot of conversations through which I learned lessons from his experiences. He always told me, “You should have goals like climbing the mountain.” Without the mountain-climbing that we both enjoyed, we couldn’t have enough time to spend together because my father was very busy. I really got a lot from the mountain-climbing. It gave me time to talk with my father and to be in deep thought as well as develop my perseverance (毅力).
Once we climbed a very high mountain. It was so challenging for me because I was only ten years old. During the first few hours of climbing, I enjoyed the flowers and trees, and the birds’ singing. But as time passed, I got a pain in both of my legs. I wanted to quit climbing. In fact, I hated it at that moment, but my father said to me, “You can always see a beautiful sky at the top of the mountain, but you can’t see it before you reach the top. Only there you can see all of the nice things, just like your life.”
At that time, I was too young to understand his words. But later after that, I got new hope and confidence. I found myself standing at the top of the mountain, and the sky was as clear as crystal (水晶).
24. The passage tells us that mountain-climbing was ________ for father and son.
A. pleasant B. tiring C. painful D. hard
25. The word “quit” in the passage means “________”.
A. carry on B. put out C. give up D. pick up
26 It can be inferred (推断)from the last paragraph that ________.
A. the writer reached the top of the mountain
B. the writer was very successful in his life
C. though the writer was young, he could understand his father
D. the writer used to stop half-way when he climbed the mountain
27. The best title for the passage is ________.
A. How to Get to the Foot of the Mountain B. Sleeping at the Top of the Mountain
C. Conversations between Father and Son D. Reaching the Top of the Mountain

Artificial intelligence (人工智能), or AI in short, is the science of giving computers and machines ability to think and work like humans. AI scientists and engineers have made a lot of cool technologies.
AI is rapidly catching up with the human ability to read faces. As a result, facial recognition (人脸识别) is used a lot in the world. Chinese police use this technology to identify criminals (罪犯). Once they caught a criminal when he attended a concert. It also checks the ID of ride-hailing (网约车) drivers and lets people pay for things with a smile. AI is also used in self-driving cars, which are believed to be the future of driving. Most drivers may wave or nod at passers-by to let them cross the street, but self-driving cars don’t have this ability. Car makers are testing a light signal system to help them “speak” to humans. The system can show what self-driving cars will do. For example, if a driver-less car is yielding (让路), it will flash two white lights side to side. A rapidly flashing light tells passers-by that the car is about to speed up.
Service Robots also show you how powerful AI is. Imagine this — you come back home from school and your robot housekeeper is waiting for you at the door. After dinner, he teaches you to play the piano, just like a real music teacher. Such thoughts will soon happen in the real world. In the future, more and more service robots will become good home helpers. AI is so powerful that it can help human beings and even replace us in many jobs.
28. The underlined word “identify” probably means “________” in the passage.
A. turn down B. help with C. forget about D. find out
29. In the future, a self-driving car may communicate with humans by ________.
A. waving to them B. nodding at them
C. flashing lights D. speaking to them
30. Which technology is used in real life according to the passage?
A. Service Robots at school. B. Robots as ride-hailing drivers.
C. Facial recognition for payment. D. Light signals for self-driving cars.
31. Where is this text most likely from?
A. A technology report. B. A health magazine.
C. A diary. D. A guidebook.

In China, more and more people read at community reading rooms. For example, Luyang district of Hefei has built more than 100 reading rooms in recent years, so people can enjoy the fun of reading at their doorsteps. In the UK, 3,718 libraries provide different kinds of services, including lending out books and offering a free, warm and safe space for people to go to. Some libraries make it easier to borrow books: for example, by delivering books to library users’ doorsteps.
Libraries do more than house books. They provide people with other services and tools, such as computers, and create a sense of community. However, many libraries in the UK are at risk of closing because they can’t afford the cost of operating. Library fines (罚款) are carried out when people don’t return books on time.
Many people in the UK believe that fines are needed because they help libraries improve services, and prevent people from returning books late. Without fines, people might be more relaxed and many more books could be returned late. After all, some books are so popular that there can be a waiting list for people who want to read it next. Libraries only work if people borrowing books return them on time, ready for other library users to enjoy.
However, one third of Britain’s libraries are fine-free now. This means some library users who don’t return books by the date agreed are not charged (收费). Besides, people who don’t have much money really depend on libraries to help them save some money, not spend it. Many libraries have got rid of fines all together, which makes libraries more welcoming environments.
So, should libraries stop fining people? See what we find in other countries.
32. What is paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. Libraries are facing more challenges.
B. Libraries are popular with young readers.
C. It’s convenient for people to read nowadays.
D. It’s not easy to find a place to relax after work.
33. Why are many libraries in the UK at risk of closing?
A. Some people break the library rules.
B. They can’t afford the cost of operating.
C. They are short of books and computers.
D. More community libraries have been built.
34. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Library fines can be stressful to readers.
B. Libraries need money to improve services.
C. There are different views on library fines in Britain.
D. People prefer reading in community reading rooms.
35. What might the author continue talking about?
A. Library rules in the UK. B. Good reading habits around the UK.
C. Designs for libraries in Asia and Europe. D. Facts about library fines in other countries.

【39题详解】
根据上文“High school and middle school are very different in studying.(高中和初中在学习上有很大的不同。)”和下文“You can buy a planner and spend a few minutes each night going over the notes you took in class that day. (你可以买一个记事本,每天晚上花几分钟复习你当天在课堂上做的笔记。)”可知,本段主要讲述在学习方面初高中的不同,作者也给出具体的建议:对于学习有所整理。E项“Try to get as organised as possible so you can stay on top of your studies.(尽可能有条理,这样你就可以学得很好。)”符合语境,其中“as organized as possible(尽可能有条理)”与小标题“Get organized.(要有条理。)”对应。故选E项。
【40题详解】
设空为本段小标题,应是本段核心内容的高度概括。根据本段内容“While there’s no need to plan every day for the next three years, it can’t hurt to make a note of classes you want to take or activities you’d like to try. Believe it or not, the three years go by really fast. Having a plan in place will help you make the most of your high school experience.(虽然没有必要为未来三年的每一天做计划,但把你想参加的课程或想尝试的活动记下来也无妨。信不信由你,三年过得真快。有一个适当的计划将帮助你充分利用你的高中经历。)”可知,本段的主旨是建议制定一个三年计划。A项“Create a three-year plan.(制定一个三年计划。)”是对本段内容的高度概括,符合语境。故选A项。
