(24-25九年级上·浙江杭州·期中)Miniaturization (微型化) has been a goal of engineers and designers for a few years. The ever smaller products have included pocket-sized computers and motorbikes which are the size of a backpack. The latest thing is a handbag which can pass through the eye of a needle (针). It has been sold for $63,750 online, according to a post (帖子) made by the company MSCHF on June 14th,2023.
“Smaller than a grain of sea salt, this handbag is so small that you’ll need a microscope (显微镜) to see it,” ISCHF wrote in the post. There are big handbags, normal handbags, and small handbags, but this is the final word in bag miniaturization. An object like a handbag is useful, but it becomes smaller and smaller. It is losing its original use until it turns into just a brand.
The tiny handbag is 657 by 222 by 700 micrometers and was shown to the public in Paris in June. It was made with high technology which uses 3D printers. MSCHF chose the technology to see how small a handbag they could make.
MSCHF’s creative officer Kevin Wiesner was interviewed by The New York Times. “I think the bag is a funny object because it derives from something very functional,” Wiesner said. “But in fact, it has become jewelry (珠宝)”.
1.Why does the first paragraph mention the eye of a needle?
A.To explain the handbag’s value.
B.To discuss the handbag’s problem.
C.To prove how small this handbag is.
D.To show how good the handbag looks.
2.What does the underlined word “It” refer to?
A.The tiny handbag. B.The microscope.
C.The post. D.The technology.
3.According to the passage, MSCHF________.
A.is a company that only makes bags
B.has made plenty of smaller objects
C.thinks miniaturization will be less popular
D.used high technology in making the handbag
4.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.Some Useless Objects

(24-25九年级上·河南南阳·期中)There are challenges of recycling clothes. But a company in France is trying to make it easier. The company is called CETIA.It built two machines that use AI to help recycle clothes and shoes. With AI technology, one machine can find and cut off zippers and buttons (拉链和纽扣) from clothes, while the other machine can pull off soles (鞋底) from shoes easily.
This sounds simple, but nobody has ever done it before. “Nobody recycled soles before because it was hard to sort them from shoes,” said the leader of CETIA.People had to put shoes on an oven to melt (熔化) the glue and pull off the soles by hand. But CETIA’s machine can do it very easily.
Some clothes can be recycled into materials for houses or roads. But most clothes don’t become clothès again. That’s because clothes need materials that must be sorted carefully by hand. That usually takes a long time and is expensive. But CETIA’s machine can sort faster and better than people. It can even sort clothes by color and material, making it easier to recycle them into clothes again.
Recycling clothes and shoes is important because it can reduce waste and can even create new jobs. CETIA is doing amazing work by developing those recycling machines. They’re showing us that with smart thinking, we can find ways to solve big problems.

(24-25九年级上·山东临沂·期中)One of my favorite inventions in recent years is face unlocking. Without needing to lift my fingers and type in the numbers, I can get straight into my phone with just a look. Now there is a new technology designed to replace the password called the “passkey”!
Passkeys turn your phone into something a bit like a wallet, which you can use to store membership cards to all of your apps and services. when you need to log in to a website, you’ll just have to tap a button on your phone and your passkey wallet will let you in without any worry.
And how does it keep this wallet safe? By using the same “biometric (生物统计)” check your phone uses—a face scan or a fingerprint that cannot easily be forged.
Passkeys won’t just save us from having to remember passwords but, perhaps logging in with a passkey will actually be much safer than typing a password. This is because it uses a technology called “public key” cryptography (密码学) which is one of the building blocks of the Internet and is how computers have securely communicated with other computers for so many years. To put it simply, it works a bit like a key, instead of a password.
With a password, the website has to keep a database (数据库) of everyone’s passwords to check against when you log in. But with a passkey, when you create your account (账户) on a website, it will reflectively create a new lock and key. The website will keep the lock, and only your phone will have the key.
I think it’s a really clever idea, and that passkeys are going to make our digital lives even safer. So, next time you’re complaining that you can’t remember your password, don’t worry too much. It won’t always be like this!

(24-25九年级上·河北唐山·期中)In sci-fi movies, there are sometimes characters who have microchips (微芯片) implanted (植入) in their heads. This might become reality very soon.
US businessman Elon Musk’s company has developed a chip that was implanted into the head of a pig named Gertrude. On Aug 28, Musk did a livestream (直播) to show how it works.
The chip is the size of a coin. But don’t let its size fool you. The small chip has over 3,000 electrodes (电极) that can monitor (监测) about 1, 000 neurons (神经元) and pick up signals (信号) in the brain and translate these signals into actions, such as moving an arm or leg. Then it sends these signals to nearby computers. In the livestream, while Gertrude the pig was snuffling (用鼻子吸气) around in a pen (猪圈), people could see her brain activity on a large screen.
If this technology is used on humans, it means people might be able to control computers or other machines with their minds. For now, the main goal is to use it to help disabled people. They could control artificial limbs with their minds and move around more easily. People could even use the technology to play video games or drive cars.
However, there is still long way to go to make these things happen. The chip can send signals from about 500 neurons in the pig’s brain. However, the human brain has 80 billion neurons. Also, it is not safe enough to implant the chip yet, as it could harm the brain. Hackers (黑客) could pose a danger by hacking into the chip and controlling it. They might know others’ thoughts and feelings without permission (允许) .
There are ethical (伦理的) problems, too. When humans are connected to computers, are they sill humans?

C.The post. D.The technology.
3.According to the passage, MSCHF________.
A.is a company that only makes bags
B.has made plenty of smaller objects
C.thinks miniaturization will be less popular
D.used high technology in making the handbag
4.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.Some Useless Objects
B.MSCHF’s Creative Officers
C.A Handbag Smaller than a Grain of Salt
D.The Final Word in Computer Miniaturization

(24-25九年级上·山东菏泽·期中)Times change! The day I heard that the Bright Bookstore was closing, I was sad. The bookstore had been in the neighborhood for 50 years, and it was a great place where people could know each other through their love of books.
When I met Old Tim, the store’s owner, he said it was difficult to run a traditional bookstore. Most young people read e-books and more people bought books online.
Childhood memories came back to me so clearly. A group of us kids used to go to the store, spending hours reading there or just talking with Tim. Tim encouraged us to share our ideas by writing them on a large board.
A few months later, I was back and was surprised to see that the Bright Bookstore was still open for business. It was still old, but inside it was like a different world. In an area, a book reading was going on. Nearby, some readers were sharing their ideas on a screen instead of the large board. Some were reading on computers. It even had a coffee shop selling nice food. Clearly, the Bright Bookstore was in good, creative hands.
Tim told me that there were more community (社区) events in the coffee shop such as book readings and even concerts and movie nights.
“Well, as you can see, technology and creativity have brought my old bookstore into the 21st century! I’m so glad to see that everything I wanted to offer to the community is still here,” said Tim.
No matter how times change, there are always people who love reading. With the development technology, traditional bookstores should also change in a creative way .

B.a creative mind can make a big difference
C.technology brings trouble to traditional businesses
(24-25九年级上·山东济南·期中)Table tennis has been played for many years and is popular around the world. The sport is beginner-friendly. But it also keeps a rich level of competitive play. However, it’s difficult for blind people to experience the joy of this sport.
Phoebe Peng, an engineering student in Australia, invented a new system to help the blind play ping-pong using sound. She installed (安装) cameras and loudspeakers on sides of a traditional ping-pong table. As the cameras tracked (追踪) the movement of the ball, a computer program changed that information into sound, which was played through the loudspeakers. The blind players could use the sound to know the ball’s location, and then they could return the ball fast and correctly.
Peng showed her work on December 6 at the Acoustics 2023 Sydney. It was held from December 4 to December 8 at the International Convention Center Sydney.
Although this system worked well, Peng said more study is needed before it can be ready for actual play.” A challenge is the matter of human perception (感知) of sound, said Peng. “What kind of sound should be used?
1.What was Musk livestreaming about?
