第一节
(Text 1)
W: I have to get something out of my purse. Will you hold this for me?
M: Sure. Oops. I accidentally let the iPad fall. Is it broken?
W: Let me have a look. The home button, the power button ... Don’t worry. Everything is OK.
(Text 2)
W: Mike and I are getting together for dinner. Do you want to come with us?
M: Yeah, that would be nice. I have a meeting in about ten minutes. I can meet you afterward if that’s OK.
W: That’s fine. Who is you meeting with?
M: The Boston Insurance Company.
(Text 3)
M: Mom saw that I needed a new backpack, so she’s going to take us shopping today!
W: I wonder if I will get some new shoes today.
M: Why? You already have so many!
W: Those don’t fit me anymore.
(Text 4)
M: Hey Mary, I’m tired. Would you mind driving for a while?
W: I would like to, but I don’t know how to drive.
M: Really? Don’t you have a license? I thought everyone had a license.
(Text 5)
W: Do you cook vegetables?
M: I cook vegetables or I eat vegetables fresh. For example, I’ll cut up a cucumber, and put some salt on it and eat with my lunch.
W: I love vegetable sticks, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks.
第二节
(Text 6)
W: Hello?
M: Hi, is Heather there, please?
W: Sorry, I think you have the wrong number.
M: Is this 617-228-2289?
W: Yes. Who are you looking for again?
M: Heather Johnson.
W: Oh, I thought you said Laura, but Heather’s not here right now. She went to the store to buy some groceries. Would you like to leave a message?
M: Yes, would you please tell her Eric Martin called?
W: OK. Heather will be back in about 20 minutes. I’ll tell her you called.
M: Thanks.

W: Is your room okay?
M: Well, it’s certainly big enough. There’s also plenty of space in the bathroom.
W: That’s good.
M: I wish I had a view of the garden of the hotel, though. There’s nothing to see except the cars in the parking garage.
W: You could always change.
M: I guess so, but I can’t be bothered. Anyway, it’s great to have a big, flat-screen TV. There’s also a coffee maker, so I can make coffee whenever I want it. I was a little disappointed that there was nothing — not even a bottle of water — in the refrigerator when I checked in. But I called down and asked them to fill it up, and they did that right away.

W: Do you exercise regularly?
M: Not recently, because I’m meeting a tight deadline.
W: What kind of foods do you eat?
M: I usually get take-out or fast food because I don’t have enough time to cook.
W: I was reading a diet book the other day. It said that if you eat meat and nothing else, you’ll lose weight quickly. One of my friends told me he tried it and lost 20 pounds.
M: That sounds good, but I’m not sure how long I could do that. Well, I think I’m going to try it anyway. Who’s the author?
W: I can’t remember. It’s not that popular. When I get home I’ll check and give you a call.

M: I’m okay. My job’s really busy this time of year, too. You know, it’s the sales season now. My boss requires higher sales. What’s new with you?
W: Nothing much. I’m on my way to the shopping center. Hey, do you remember Lana? She’s over there. She’s always at the shopping center!
M: Who? Oh yeah. I remember Lana. She’s the one with the scary-looking dog. I don’t want to hang out with that dog!
W: Ha! You aren’t afraid of that lovely tiny dog, are you? Well, I’m sure Rover isn’t there.
M: Actually, I’m headed to the shopping center later, anyway. There’s a huge sale going on. I think they’re open extra late. If I get there before you leave, maybe I’ll see you. I’m not leaving until I have some new shoes!

(Text 10)
M: The summer vacation in New Delhi begins in May 1st every year. Much before it began we started planning how to spend it. I suggested that we should go to Shillong. But my sister insisted that we see Darjeeling. My father decided that we would go to both places with one month’s stay at each place.
So, it was decided that we would be going first to Shillong and then to Darjeeling. We left the New Delhi Railway Station four days after the vacation began. It was a very long and tiring journey. The train reached Guwahati in the evening.
The next day, early in the morning we drove to Shillong. We stayed there for nearly a month in the hotel. The climate was no doubt cool and pleasant, but there were very few places of interest.
We left Shillong on June 4th. On our way to Darjeeling, we traveled by train. We saw thick forests and beautiful tea gardens. We reached Darjeeling at about noon. We took a taxi and went to a hotel where reservations had been earlier arranged by my father. One day we went to the Tiger Hills by taxi at 4 a.m. to enjoy the famous sunrise. It was a wonderful sight which we had never seen before. And that was the last day of our vacation.

As a young person, I never thought of myself as a sports enthusiast because I was
quite clumsy. But there was one thing I enjoyed: running. It felt like I was soaring (翱翔)
through the air. Sadly, this changed when I hurt my knee two years ago. I had to stay in
bed for two weeks and even walking a short way was hard for me. I was so upset that I
cried as I moved to the car for several days.
When therapy (治疗,疗法) wasn’t working well for me, I signed up for a hot yoga
class for girls, Bikram Yoga to be exact. Starting a yoga practice was truly a blessing
because it helped me gain strength in my knees but, most importantly yoga helped me
attain a more peaceful state of mind, body and spirit.
Since each class was heated to 105°F, every time I stepped foot in the yoga studio,
I’d feel a surge (涌起) of negative thoughts come upon me like a big ocean wave. Some of
these thoughts were, in the beginning of my practice, so strong that I walked out of the
class several times. However, as the months passed by, I noticed that when I didn’t get
swayed away (动摇) by my negative thoughts, I could stay in the hot room for longer.
After 3-4 months of practising hot yoga, my arms and legs were beginning to get
definition. I also woke up with so much more energy than I had before starting my yoga
practice and I gradually started shedding the pounds (减轻体重 ) from my body. Yoga
literally made me feel as if I’d taken a shot of energy drink and just gave me that burst that
helped my knees heal and made my overall health better.
As I saw some of my classmates do poses that looked appealing to me, I started to
think maybe I could do them too. Therefore, yoga helped show me that I have no real
limitations physically unless I set those limitations myself through eating junk and
thinking in negative limiting terms.
Also, practising yoga in front of a mirror helped me connect with myself and
practising with a group of people really helped me to feel a greater sense of connection
with humanity whereas before I didn’t. Overall, this yoga practice has helped me to see
I’m part of a bigger picture in life!
24.What once depressed the author terribly according to Paragraph 1?
A.Her serious physical disease. B.Her negative thoughts.
C.Her failure to find her car. D.Her inability to walk.
3
25.What difficulty did the author meet while attending each yoga class?
A.The temperature was difficult to control in yoga class.
B.She was greatly influenced by negative thoughts.
C.Lack of confidence prevented the author doing yoga.
D.She couldn’t bear the pain the knee injury brought.
26.What can we learn about the author from paragraph 4?
A.She did better than her classmates at school.
B.Her social circle was widened in the yoga classes.
C.She has developed many healthy eating habits.
D.Her physical state has acquired a new outlook.
27.What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A.To share with readers her experience in taking yoga classes.
B.To present the benefits of practising yoga regularly.
C.To show readers the necessary skills needed to do yoga.
D.To call on readers to sign up for yoga courses.

If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be? Would you want to fly or
be invisible? Or, perhaps, you’d rather have the power to read minds? Wouldn’t that be
cool?
Reading minds is not as far-fetched as you might think. In fact, researchers at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a wearable device that can actually
express a person’s thoughts and allow them to talk to a computer—without anyone else
hearing.
The device, called AlterEgo, allows a person to control a computer and ask it
questions without ever saying one word. When the individual wearing the device thinks of
a word or a phrase but does not speak it, AlterEgo picks up the neuromuscular (神经肌肉)
signals in that person’s jaw and face. AlterEgo sends those signals to a computer, which is
programmed to associate them with specific words.
The device is fairly accurate. In a l0-person trial, AlterEgo had a 92 percent
transcription (转录) accuracy. Researchers say that number will increase over time. “Our
idea was: Could we have a computing platform that’s more internal, that combines human
and machine in some ways and that feels like an internal extension of our own thoughts?”
Arnav Kapur, a graduate student at the MIT Media Lab said.
So what effect could this have on communication? AlterEgo can change the way
humans interact with computers, allowing us to silently connect with AI assistants such as
Amazon’s Alexa, Google’s Assistant or Apple’s Siri without anyone knowing. If a person
is having a conversation and wants to look up a bit of information, they don’t have to take
out their digital device; instead they can just think of the question. AlterEgo will answer
without interrupting the conversation. The device can also help people communicate in
noisy situations, such as on a factory floor in the airport.
28.Why are the questions raised in paragraph 1?
A.To ask readers for their opinions. B. To inspire readers’ imagination.
C.To introduce the topic of the passage. .D.To show the author’s curiosity.
29.What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.The questions. B.The computers. C.The words. D.The signals.
30.What influence will AlterEgo have on people’s communication?
A.People can apply AI assistants skillfully.
B.People will become good mind-readers.
C.People can communicate silently and more smoothly.
D.People no longer need mobile phones.
31.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text’?
A.AlterEgo Frees People of Thinking.
B.Silent Reader of Your Mind Comes True.
C.Wearable Device Controls Computer.
D.Communication Is Easy with AI Assistants.

Why can’t you remember being a baby? Will that trip to Dreamworld be wasted on
your toddler (学步的幼儿)? Scientists explain how the brain changes from infancy (婴儿
期) through to early childhood, and what this means for your child’s memories.
While some people can remember memories from as early as age two, as adults most
of us rarely remember things that happen to us before the age of three, due to a
phenomenon called “infantile amnesia (婴儿健忘症)”. Generally, we tend to have vague
(模糊的) memories of events that occur between the ages of three and seven.
So why is it that we can’t remember being a baby, or a toddler? The answer lies in
the way that our brain’s ability to store memories changes as we grow. At birth, a baby’s
brain is only a quarter of its adult size, growing to three-quarters the size of an adult brain
4
by age two. This increase correlates with a growth in the number of brain cells—called
neurons (神经元)一 and the connections between these cells.
A part of the brain that is important in forming memories is the hippocampus (海马
体 ), says Dr Dhanisha Jhaveri, a researcher at the Queensland Brain Institute at The
University of Queensland. “In the hippocampus, new neurons are constantly being created.
In adulthood, new cells are still being produced, but the rate of production in the
hippocampus slows down,” says Dr Jhaveri.
Neuroscientists believe that the rapid rate at which brain cells are being produced in
childhood could be the cause of infantile amnesia. Because so many new neurons are
being produced and form connections with each other in memory circuits (记忆电路 ),
they might disturb existing networks of memories that have already formed.
But it turns out that a child’s ability to remember things for long periods of time
improves gradually throughout childhood. For example, in studies in which young kids
were taught to imitate an action, six-month-olds could remember what to do for 24 (but
not 48) hours, while nine-month-olds could remember what to do one month (but not three
months) later.
Despite this memory loss, childhood experiences have been found to influence adult
behaviour years later, which suggests that traces of these memories could be stored
somewhere in the brain that isn’t easy to access.
So while your kids might not recall their major milestones or be too young to
remember a trip to Disneyland, positive experiences as toddlers or in infancy may
continue to affect their behaviour long after they’ve forgotten them.
32.What can be inferred from paragraph 3?
A.Our brain’s ability to store memories remains unchanged as we grow.
B.The growth in the number of neurons will influence the size of the child’s brain.
C.The size of the child’s brain by age two is twice the size at birth.
D.Neurons have nothing to do with a person’s memory.
33.What is the cause of infantile amnesia according to the neuroscientists?
A.The way of our brain storing memories.
B.The existing networks of memories.
C.The rapid rate of brain cells being produced.
D.The memory circuits of our brain.
34.What is paragraph 6 mainly about?
A.Childhood experiences will influence adult behaviour years later.
B.A child’s ability to remember things improves gradually over time.
C.Traces of these memories could be stored somewhere in the brain.
D.The younger a baby is, the better its memory is.
35.What is the author’s attitude towards the influence of childhood experiences on adult
behaviour years later?
A.Objective. B.Subjective. C.Pessimistic. D.Uncaring.
第二节(共 5小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为
多余。
Learn to Be Responsible
How does it feel when you admit that you have done something wrong? Taking
responsibility for your actions not only feels good, it teaches you to trust yourself and
strengthens friendships.
What does being responsible mean?
It can be easy to blame(责怪 ) others or make excuses for mistakes, but being
responsible means accepting that you are wrong. 36 You could say the bus was
late, but being responsible means apologizing and accepting that it was your responsibility
to get there on time. However, being responsible doesn’t mean taking the blame for things
you can’t change. You’re only responsible for things that you can control.
37
According to research, understanding you have control over your own actions makes
you feel more positive and hopeful about the future. 38 For example, I
remember a time I got the sofa dirty. I was going to lie about it because if my mum saw it,
she would get angry. But after I told her the truth, I wasn’t in as much trouble as I thought.
Instead, mom praised me for my honesty. Being responsible helps you to gain people’s
trust.
How can you be responsible?
39 One way of doing this is by drawing a circle of control: what is in this
circle of control and what is out of this circle. As well as being responsible for what you
can change, try accepting the things you can’t. We can’t always control what happens to
us. 40 We can still choose our attitude. And most of the time, attitude decides if
you are truly a responsible person.
A.What makes you responsible?
B.How is being responsible good for you?
C.But we can control how we respond to it.
D.Start by understanding what is in and out of your control.
5
E.Taking responsibility can also make others trust you more.
F.Imagine agreeing to meet a friend and then turning up late.
G.This can increase your happiness and help you achieve more.
