T: What can you see from the video？ S: Beautiful clothes/ Different clothes. T: Do you know what kinds of clothes are they？ S: They are traditional Chinese clothes. Lead to the topic of today's lesson: "Today, we are going to integrate what we have learned about clothes and style and have a deeper discussion." Step 2 Fast Reading Have students listen and read the introduction to traditional Chinese clothes in part A and answer the questions on page 76. T: What’s the passage about? S: It’s about traditional Chinese clothes. Q1: Do you know what kinds of clothes they are？ A1: They are hanfu, qipao and tangzhuang. Q2: When do some Chinese people choose to wear traditional clothes? A2: They choose to wear traditional clothes on important days in life, like festivals or wedding days. Q3: What other traditional Chinese clothes do you know about? A3: I know about Minority ethnic costumes. I also know about mamianqun. It is a type of traditional Chinese skirt that dates back to the song dynasty. I also know about Zhong Shan suit. It is a type of men's clothing. Step 3 Listening Sandy is interested in traditional Chinese clothes. And now she is listening to a podcast （播客） about hanfu and qipao. Listen with her and complete the notes below. 1. Have students read Sandy’s notes in part B on page 76 and answer the following question. What kind of information about hanfu and qipao can we find out in the notes? We can find out about the history and features of hanfu and qipao. We can also learn about who like the clothes and when they wear them. 2. Have students predict the answers to part B on page 76 and write down some possible answers in the blanks. 3. Have students listen to the tape and finish part B on page 76. Step 4 Talking After listening, Sandy and Millie are talking about their favourite traditional Chinese clothes. Work in pairs and answer questions. 1. Have students listen to Sandy and Millie’s conversation in part C on page 77 and answer the following questions: (1) What type of traditional Chinese clothes does Millie like best? And why? Millie likes qipao best. Because Qipao is usually made of silk, and they feel smooth and soft. Sometimes they’re made of cotton. Millie thinks all women, young or old, look beautiful in a qipao. (2) What type of traditional Chinese clothes does Sandy like best? And why? Sandy likes hanfu most. Because hanfu are usually loose and comfortable to wear. 2.Have students read the tip in part C on page 77 and summarize the purpose of using “yes, I agree, but …” in a conversation. 3.Have students do an interview according to the conversation as a model. T: I’ll ask one of you to be the interviewer, and other students to be interviewees. please do the interview and you can use the conversation below as a model. The interviewer has to select some of the interviewees and ask questions about your ideas on traditional Chinese clothes. A: What type of traditional Chinese clothes do you like best? B: I like…best. Because ... A: What do you know about…? B: ... is usually made of ..., and it feels .... Sometimes it's made of .... A: Yes, I agree.
