Q: My favorite teacher returned to America this term. I can’t see her in class any longer and miss her very much. She is so busy that I don’t want to trouble her. How can I get used to this situation?
Nancy
Dear Nancy,
Most teachers don’t like this situation, either. Saying goodbye to students is never easy.
I taught many primary school students at first, and some had unforgettable personalities. Some were troublemakers, and some were hard workers. I sometimes wonder how they are doing now.
Later, I taught high school and university students. Some
still keep in touch with me. I am always glad to hear from them, even if it’s just a message to say “Merry Christmas”. Sometimes they ask me for advice. It’s deeply rewarding to know that I am a positive person in their lives.
So, you should absolutely “bother” your old teacher. Teachers love these kinds of greetings, so don’t be shy!
Daniel
Dear Nancy,
I had an experience similar to yours. I had a favorite Chinese teacher who was humorous and good at guiding students. My classmates and I all enjoyed the time with him. But happy times are always short. We must separate. When I told him my sadness, he smiled and said, “Separation happens to everyone.” You should know that separation is a common thing in the world. You should try to adapt to the teaching styles of different teachers and respect them.
Every teacher loves his or her students. It’s quite lucky that I got my teacher’s contact information. You can also do that! Your teacher will probably be happy to hear from you.
Cheer up and call her!
