World Oral Health Day was first declared in 2007 and was originally celebrated on September 12 — the birth date of FDI founder Dr. Charles Godon. However, the campaign was not fully activated until 2013, after the date was changed to March 20 to avoid conflict with the FDI World Dental Congress taking place in September.
The new date was chosen to reflect that:
◆Seniors must have a total of 20 natural teeth at the end
文化知识
of their life to be considered healthy.
◆Children should possess 20 baby teeth.
◆Healthy adults must have a total of 32 teeth and 0 dental cavities.
Expressed on a numerical basis, this can be translated as 3/20, hence March 20.

In a world where words can sometimes fall short, actions often speak louder. Among these actions, there is one simple yet powerful way we humans connect with each other — a hug. It is beyond languages and can express a wide range of feelings. Picture this: after a long day at school, when you finally see your best friend or a family member, and without a single spoken word, you wrap your arms around each other. That warm, comfortable feeling spreads through your heart. That’s the magic of a hug, working its wonders.
A hug is a common form of greeting in some cultures. However, the ways it is performed and accepted can be very different across different cultures.
In North America, a hug is relatively common among family and close friends. However, the appropriateness(适当性) of it can be different depending on the relationship and the region.
In the United Kingdom, a hug as greeting tends to be less common, especially in professional settings.
A hug has the ability to comfort and improve relationships between people, whether it’s between family members, friends, or even strangers. It is good for people’s physical and mental health.
Fun Facts About Hugs
√ When we hug someone, our brain produces oxytocin(催产素). It makes us feel calm and happy.
√ Getting frequent hugs lowers your heart rate(心率) by 5 beats per minute and make you feel over 20% more energetic.
√ Adults who always get hugs sleep 21% better than those who do not.
A hug can offer a sense of comfort when someone is going through a difficult time. A hug can also be used to celebrate joyful events. It is a natural way to express happiness and joy, or to share the excitement of a special moment. What’s more, a hug can be congratulations on a big achievement, a way to say “I’m so proud of you.” or just a simple expression of love. That’s why so many people love to hug.
In conclusion, the power of a hug is truly far more than we thought. So, don’t be afraid to give a hug when it’s needed, or to accept one when it’s offered. Let the warmth and comfort of a hug be around you and remind you of the power of human connection.
