在写概要前,除明确文章主题外,还应抓住六个要素:when, where, who, what, why, how。 一般来说,记叙文的故事概要可以用这样的模板来表示: 记叙文:what / who / when / where / why / how Who did what by…because… Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.  Yesterday Matt was sick.I picked up Archie from the sitter and Eloise from school and decided to run to Target for a few things.I had hoped to be in and out quickly. I found a line with just one person ahead of me and began organizing my items on the conveyor. After placing my items,I looked up to see that the person ahead of me was an elderly woman. She was paying for her items with change and wanted to purchase each separately.I was frustrated with this woman and the inconvenience she had placed on me. But then I watched the young employee with this woman.I watched him help her count her change, ever so softly taking it from her shaking hands. When she asked if she had enough to buy a reusable bag,he told her she did and went two lines over to get one for her and then repackaged her items.Never once was this employee angry. He was nothing but patient and kind. As I was watching him,I saw that Eloise was too.She was standing next to the woman, watching the employee count the change.I realized I hadn’t been inconvenienced at all. That my daughter was instead witnessing kindness and patience and being taught this valuable lesson by a complete stranger. When the woman was finished, the employee began ringing up my items and thanked me for my patience.I then thanked him for teaching us patience and kindness by his treatment of that elderly woman. When he was finished I pushed my cart through the store trying to find the manager.I wanted her to know of the employee’s kindness and patience and how much it meant to me.After tracking her down and sharing the story with her,we left Target with a cart full of consumable items, but what is more,a heart full of gratitude for such an invaluable lesson. If you are ever in the Glendale Target, give Ishmael a smile and a nod.The world could use more people like him. 因此,我们先找出记叙文的六要素: · When—One day · Where—went to Target · Who— the writer with two children · What—for shopping; found an old lady was troublesome · How/Why—was touched by · Result— her children would learn a lot from this experience 列出了要点之后,我们就可以用自己的话将要点组织起来,概括成一段约60词的通顺概要: ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________- · 议论文概要写作样文展示 Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.  The advantages of social networking Why do most people sign up to social networking sites? ①The main reason is to stay in touch with other people. These sites also help people to find their childhood friends that they have lost touch with. Renewing these long-lost friendships is just a click away. It is very exciting to be able to catch up with friends and keep up with their news on an almost daily basis thanks to frequent updates.② Keep up-to-date,however,doesn’t have to be restricted to friends and acquaintances(相识的人).What many people tend to forget is that they can also use networking sites for professional reasons. It is actually a great way of finding out about upcoming job opportunities. Friends might know about job vacancies that may not be advertised elsewhere or they can even recommend their friends for certain jobs. Even people already employed can promote their business online. This is particularly important for artists, actors and musicians who can create pages devoted to their band or theatre company, and inform fans about their gigs(现场演唱会)or latest exhibitions. In addition, the sites can be used to allow the public to give instant feedback on the artists’ work and to interact with their favourite artist.③ Another great advantage of social networking sites is how easy it is to organize an event with your friends. Thanks to different settings people can organize their friends by different criteria(标准). These criteria could be how close friends they are, common interests and hobbies or where they live. This means if a certain event takes place, for example, an open-air concert or a football match, all they have to do is invite the right group of friends to attend. Some networking sites offer a range of quizzes and games, so friends living on opposite sides of the globe can invite each other to participate and compete in a variety of games without leaving their homes.④ 【写作指导】 Step 1:细读全文,明确主题。 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________- 【实战演练】 Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize in no more than 60 words the main idea of the passage and how it is illustrated. Use your own words as far as possible. These days our society develops rapidly and forces people to rush. It appears that people have got used to being in a hurry. However, it’s better for people to take their time and live their life at a slower pace than to hurry to get things done. The main reason that convinces us to oppose doing work in a hurry is the possibility of doing wrongs in a rush. When people do their jobs or take action in a hurry, they can’t make a sound decision and probably regret later. As the saying goes, “ Haste makes waste.” We should think carefully before making a decision and do our work less quickly. We should not make mistakes by doing work hurriedly. Slowing down the pace of life helps people enjoy their life better. For example, taking a train to some place certainly will take more time than taking a plane. However, taking a train makes people have enough time to get to know a lot of new friends. Besides, it allows people to fully enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. On the contrary, being in a hurry will make us lose chances of enjoying our lives. Finally, slower life pace provides better health conditions for us. As is known to all, taking action in a hurry bothers people and raises their stress. People think if they are not in a hurry, they will become a loser and that annoys them. But being in a hurry can hurt people both physically and mentally. According to some studies, people who have a slower pace suffer fewer diseases, tend to be happier and live much longer than those whose life is tense, even if the former finish jobs more slowly than the latter. In short, working quickly will bring about more material benefits to make our society more advanced. Yet, much stress can’t bring enjoyment, friends and health, which are much more important than money and other material advantages. Therefore, take your time and live your life at a slower pace. 这是一篇典型的议论文体裁,框架为“总分(总)” 即“论点(introduction of the topic)论据(body by reasoning)结论(conclusion by restating ,summarizing or suggesting)”, 通过“转折词”找文章“论点”。 These days our society develops rapidly and forces people to rush. It appears that people have got used to being in a hurry. However, it’s better for people to take their time and live their life at a slower pace than to hurry to get things done. 2. 1)However, it’s better for people to take their time and live their life at a slower pace than to hurry to get things done. 2)The main reason( that convinces us to oppose doing work in a hurry )is the possibility of doing wrongs in a rush. 3)Slowing down the pace of life helps people enjoy their life better. --On the contrary, being in a hurry will make us lose chances of enjoying our lives. 4)Finally, slower life pace provides better health conditions for us. 5)Therefore, take your time and live your life at a slower pace. 3. 1.)However, it’s better for people to take their time and live their life at a slower pace than to hurry to get things done. ① To live life at a slower pace is better than to live life in a hurry/rush. ② (Under the stress of fast-paced life,) it is more beneficial to live a slower life . 2)The main reason( that convinces us to oppose doing work in a hurry )is the possibility of doing wrongs in a rush. ① The main reason is that doing things hurriedly will raise/increase the possibility of making mistakes. ② People are more likely to make mistakes when doing things in a hurry. ③ It may be easier for people to make mistakes when in a hurry. ④ Doing work hurriedly may easily lead to mistakes. 3)Slowing down the pace of life helps people enjoy their life better. --On the contrary, being in a hurry will make us lose chances of enjoying our lives. ① Slower life pace can make people’s life more enjoyable. ② Live their life at a slower pace can bring more enjoyment to life. 4)Finally, slower life pace provides better health conditions for us. ① Slowing down the pace of life can keep people healthier. ② Live their life at a slower pace helps people keep fit. ③ Slower life pace is beneficial to/is of benefit to/does good to people’s health. 合并: ① Slowing down the pace of life will not only give people more chances to enjoy life , but (also) offer them better health conditions. ② Not only does the slower life give people enjoyment but also it’s beneficial to their health. ③ Living life at a slower pace ensures a healthier and more enjoyable life. 5)Therefore, take your time and live your life at a slower pace. ① Thus, slow down your life pace. ② Thus, be slow and enjoy your life. ③ Thus, enjoy a slower life pace. ④ Thus, let’s slow down for a healthier and happier life. 4. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________- 课后反馈 演练 (2024年嘉定区二模) England Prohibits Phones in Schools, But Will It Help? Recently, England’s Department of Education has confirmed plans to ban the use of mobile phones in English schools during the school day, including break times. The guidance offers schools a variety of ways to implement (实施) the ban, ranging from an order to leave all phones at home, to handing them in on arrival or keeping them in inaccessible lockers. England’s response to the growing frustration with students’ cellphone use during school time is not unfounded. The United Nations this past summer published a report issuing a strong warning regarding technology use in schools around the globe. Some countries had already implemented strict “no-cellphone” policies. For example, France prohibited students in elementary and middle schools from using cellphones while on campus. Meanwhile, it is reported that most teens use their phones for an average of 43 minutes during school hours, with some students reaching six hours on the high end. These addictive devices often lead to distraction and social anxiety. Worse still, almost one-third of secondary school teachers said that their lessons were interrupted by students’ mobile phones. However, some people don’t believe that banning mobile phones in England’s schools will fundamentally address the harm that mobile phones do to children. “We work with children daily. We understand that a phone is a device to pay for a bus, contact your mum, and find information,” Kidron, a secondary school teacher, said. “So the device is not the issue; it is the persistent irresponsible content provided by online tech platforms that is to blame. Companies that engage with children, therefore, should offer content that is suitable for their age and development capacity.” Ghey, a concerned mother, also raised her voice on this matter, but with a different perspective. She argued for the phone manufacturers to make specific products for under-18s that prevent them from accessing harmful content. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【2024学年向明中学9月学科检测高三年级英语试卷】 Buy Experiences, not Possessions Over the past several years, researchers have conducted scientific studies suggesting experiential purchases (such as travel, and outdoor activities) tend to bring people more happiness than material ones (for instance, clothing, and electronic goods). Recently, they have investigated another downstream consequence. They conducted a series of 13 experiments, asking people to think about either experiential or material purchases and then rate feelings on nine-point scales. In some studies, people reported feeling more ties with someone who had made the same experiential purchase than someone with the same material purchase. Owning the same T-shirt or sneakers as someone else is an interesting coincidence, but hiking the same trail or seeing the same performance makes people feel more connected. This reflects the fact that experiential purchases are more central to an individual’s identity because this kind of consumption tends to represent more of one’s true, essential sense of self. These findings apply even when people think about how their experiences differ. Researchers asked participants to consider a situation in which they met someone who had made a similar experiential or material purchase, but the other person’s purchase was “upgraded”. Even in these cases, experiences were more likely to foster connection between people than material items were. Knowing that another person has a better version of what you have can create a sense of social distance. What researchers observe, however, is that this distance feels less wide when it comes to experiential purchases. Although unpleasant social comparisons can be commonplace in terms of possessions, it may be easier to find common ground and connect with someone else over similar experiences. Researchers also discovered experiential consumption fosters a sense of social connectedness more broadly. People who reflected on experiences they had acquired—rather than material goods—reported a broader sense of connection to humanity. They were more likely to express a greater desire to engage in social activities than they do after they reflect on an important possession. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2018年6月高考 Becoming an attractive employee The 2008 financial crisis created an unstable job market. Fast-forward to the present, and the economy has not fully recovered. Thus, it’s of vital importance for job seekers to carefully strategize their approach to job application. And it is especially important for those new to the workforce. They should look at making themselves as attractive as possible to employers. For young people, information technology skills will play an increasing role in the future As the generation to have grown up in the Information Age, they are quite confident when it comes to showing off their interests and skills in this field. This makes them a natural fit for companies seeking expertise in technology, marketing, and networking. They should emphasize these skills when applying for jobs that require the ability to multitask. Another attractive quality is experience. It is important that an applicant’s resume list any activities that involved teamwork and goal-driven responsibilities. Membership in a sports or social club and participation as a volunteer are good examples of this. These activities involve goal management and planning, along with the ability to focus while competing on a team. When hiring committees see this, they see a candidate who is capable of working in a variety of environments. Finally, an attractive quality when job-hunting is a great attitude toward a potential job. Young job seekers are known to be overconfident because they have been praised for everything they have done. But they must realize that the employment market is about how an employee will be a good fit for a company, not the other way around. In fact, in an interview, an important question to ask is: “What would be expected of me as an employee?” In today’s tough job market. young job seekers need to provide a potential employer with good reasons to hire them. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! 在写概要前,除明确文章主题外,还应抓住六个要素:when, where, who, what, why, how。 一般来说,记叙文的故事概要可以用这样的模板来表示: 记叙文:what / who / when / where / why / how Who did what by…because… Directions: Read the following passage. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】England has decided to ban mobile phone use in schools. The ban is necessary since it is a trend worldwide and the overuse of phones causes mental problems in teens and disturbs teachers’ lessons. However, some argue the real issue is the irresponsible content from tech platforms and ask phone makers to produce phones tailored to minors. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Experiential purchases tend to bring people more happiness than material ones, which can be shown by the downstream consequence. People feel more ties with someone having the same experiential purchase even when their experiences differ, because the consumption tends to represent more of one’s true, essential sense of self. Also, experiential consumption fosters a sense of social connectedness more broadly. 【详解】要点摘录 ①Over the past several years, researchers have conducted scientific studies suggesting experiential purchases (such as travel, and outdoor activities) tend to bring people more happiness than material ones (for instance, clothing, and electronic goods).
