Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warming-up (5 minutes)
Greet the students and ask them some questions about their daily life. For example, “How are you today? Did you have a good weekend?”
Play a short video about people having different health problems. Ask students to watch and tell what health problems they see in the video.
Step 2: Presentation (15 minutes)
Present the grammar focus sentences on the blackboard or PPT. Read them aloud and ask students to repeat.
Explain the usage of “What's the matter?”, “have a...”, “should/shouldn't”. For example, “What's the matter?” is used to ask about someone's health problem. “I have a stomachache.” is used to describe one's own health problem. “You should lie down and rest.” is used to give advice.
Ask students to look at the sentences in 4a and fill in the blanks. Then check the answers together.
Have students read the conversations in pairs and practice speaking.
Step 3: Practice (15 minutes)
Ask students to look at the health problems in 4b. Have them circle the best advice and then give their own advice. For example, for Jenny who cut herself, students can say “She should put some medicine on the cut. My advice is that she should also clean the cut carefully to prevent infection.”
Divide students into groups. Have one student in each group mime a health problem while the others guess the problem and give advice. Encourage students to use the expressions they have learned.
After a few minutes, ask some groups to present their conversations to the class.
Step 4: Summary (5 minutes)
Summarize the key points of this lesson. Ask students to recall the expressions for health problems and giving advice.
Emphasize the importance of caring for our health and helping others when they have health problems.
Step 5: Homework (5 minutes)
Ask students to write down three health problems and give advice for each problem.
Encourage students to use the expressions they have learned in this lesson.
