I like working in the TV station. I have been a reporter 1 fifteen years. I chose this job so that I could travel the world, but the job 2 me many unforgettable lessons already. My work is sometimes kind of 3 but for most of the time it is amazing and inspiring.
In India, I visited a city. There were many homeless children. Some were young and lived in the street. But then a lady called Rosa opened a home for them. In one whole year, she was looking after two 4 kids, feeding them, teaching them and giving them hope.
Another time, I was in Japan and 5 a young girl with a serious illness. After seven operations(手术), she had to have thirteen more in hospital. However, when I saw her, I found 6 she was still smiling.
Here in China, after the terrible Wenchuan Earthquake, I found 7 three-year-old boy named Lang Zheng. He had been in the ruins(废墟) for 8 than ten hours before he was found by the soldiers.
Though weak and injured, the brave boy lifted 9 right hand above his head with difficulty and saluted(敬礼) the soldiers to show his thanks, which became the most moving moment in the disaster(灾难).
Thanks to the experience as a reporter, I myself am getting braver 10 stronger. When I face challenges(挑战) in my life, I always remember the courage(勇气) of these three people.

My name is Karen. I’m 71 active girl. I have been to many places. Mount Huang was one of 72 places I’ve been to.
Mount Huang is near my hometown. Guess 73 . It’s about 160 square kilometres. My dad and I went to climb it during my summer holidays five years ago. At first I thought the top was so high that I could never reach it. When I looked up, I always saw that there were many white clouds around the top. Although the sight was beautiful, I didn’t expect 74 a look at it. My legs were badly shivering (颤抖) because of the 3-hour walk 75 I had a pain in my head. I said to myself that I couldn’t give up climbing because it was my dream to reach the top.
It was cold and the wind was brushing my face 76 . I could never believe that I was able to reach the top without the help 77 my dad. Seeing the mountains with large rocks around me, and the waterfall in front of 78 , I smiled. I enjoyed my 79 in reaching the top after falling over the stones several times. And I 80 in love with the beauty of nature since then.
In our lives, the top is our dream. Just prepare more so that you can finally reach the top. Whatever the result is, at least I have tried my best. I believe I can reach the top. I believe I can catch my dream.

“That sounds like a good idea. Some clothes in the box are quite new—People 84 wear them or use them to make things like handbags.” Mrs. Wang, 85 old woman says, “Sometimes I also look through the box 86 some nice clothes.”
However, there are two main problems after the clothes donation becomes 87 than before. First, some people sell the clothes in the donation box for making money instead of wearing them. Second, many clothes in the donation box are too old to wear.
“What’s worse,” Mike added, “People throw rubbish into the box when they pass by. We’ve tried to stop 88 several times but failed. It 89 the most serious problem since we set the box.”
Luckily, our government 90 actions to make the donation box work in a right way these days.

When a storm is coming, most people leave the area as quickly as possible and go to the safe place. But there are 131 people who will get into their cars and go straight to the center of the storm. “Storm chasing” 132 an very popular hobby in the Midwest of the United States. There are frequent storms 133 March to July. Storm chasers often drive up to 134 kilometers to where the storm will be. And then 135 wait for the storm to develop.
Although anyone can do it, storm chasing is dangerous. The power of a big storm can throw a horse into the air. Storm chasers often drive in a 136 rain. So they are 137 often hurt in accidents. However, for storm chasers, it is all worth it. “ 139 you get close to a storm, it is the most exciting sight you will ever see in your life,” says Jasper Morley. “Every storm is 140 example of the power of nature. It is the greatest show on Earth.”

You want to know about my staying in America, don’t you? Well, to tell you the truth, it is really 191 eye-opening experience to study here.
In China, I had English classes five times a week since 192 grade. However, I didn’t know how difference textbook English could be from everyday English until I came to Hotchkiss School, Conmecticut.
When I first studied English, I was told to say, “I am fine.” when people said “How are you?” But in the USA, I 193 that people said, “I am good.” or “I am tired.”
One day, 194 greeted me with “What’s up?” It made me confused. I thought for a moment and then smiled because I didn’t know what to say. Since then, I 195 more and more differences 196 Chinese and US cultures.
To my 197 , US girls spend a lot of time staying in the burning sun 198 a tan (晒黑). However, in China, girls try every possible way to get their skin paler or “whiter”. I am also surprised by how 199 US students study. Before that, I think only students in China study hard. But after coming here, I know a “good” student 200 get good grades, do a lot of the public and play sports or music if he wants to go to a top university. The kids here are so talented, I am starting to be sorry that I gave up playing the piano at an early age and that I have never thought about sports.

Once upon a time, there was a man-eating animal called “Nian”. It would come to a village to eat people on the last day of the Lunar Year. One year on that night, an old man who just came to the village said he could stay by 333 and drive Nian away. The villagers didn’t believe 334 he said, but they couldn’t change his mind.
That evening, Nian ran out with 335 to find something to eat as usual, but it found that only a house had light in it. As Nian came close to the house, it heard loud noises of explosion (爆炸声). Nian was afraid of 336 sudden noise and bright light so it ran into the house. However, he couldn’t stop 337 because it found that on the windows were bright lanterns (灯笼) and that the house was covered 338 red paper. Shouting with fear, Nian ran away from the red house as 339 as it could.
From then on, the villagers lit red lanterns around their houses, put up red paper on their walls and doors, wore red clothes and danced to loud music when New Year came. Nian never returned to the village. Since then, these activities 340 the traditions to celebrate Chinese New Year.

If you want to study abroad, have you thought about 341 to live? I’ve been living and studying in Canada for about nine months. As I’m still too young to rent(租)a house by 342 . I live with a home-stay family and I feel like I’m part of it.
The first time I had a home-stay was in 2013. During that time, I stayed in Ajax, a town in Canada, for a week and lived with a home-stay family. Carlton lived with his son and daughters. Carlton drove me to 343 international school to learn about Canadian culture every morning, and he picked me up in the afternoons. Our free time was in the evening. The meals he made for me were delicious and we usually watched a movie after dinner. All experiences were unforgettable, even if I 344 there for a long time.
I’m now living with an American family with 345 Chinese boy. There are two family members -- Perger and her son, Robert. I’ve already lived here 346 nine months and I have been deeply moved by many things they’ve done. Once, my roommate went running and didn’t come back for quite a long time. Mrs Perger called him, 347 he didn’t answer the phone. She began to 348 him, and was even about to cry.
However, living with a home-stay family also has its disadvantages, especially when living with a foreign family. The 349 challenge(挑战) for me has been totally different lifestyle. It took me a long time to get used to.
Living with a home-stay family 350 me a lot of new experiences. It has taught me how to communicate with different people.

When I was thirteen years old, a girl gave me an important gift. It was 391 smile.
It was the early autumn of my first year at a new school. No one knew me. I was very lonely, and afraid to make friends 392 anyone.
Every time I heard the other students talking and laughing, I felt even 393 . I could not talk to anyone about my problem, and I did not want my parents to worry about 394 .
One day, my classmates were talking with their friends, 395 I sat in silence. At that moment, a girl 396 the classroom. I did not know who she was. She passed me and then turned back. She looked at me and, without a word, smiled.
Suddenly, I felt the touch of something bright and friendly. It made me feel happy, lively and warm. It 397 like a hidden treasure.
That smile changed my life. I started to talk with the other students. Day by day, I learnt
398 people, and they included me in their circle of friends. The girl with the bright smile has become my 399 friend now, and we stick together like glue.
One day, I asked her 400 she smiled at me that day. She said she could not remember!
Now I believe that the world is what you think it is. If you think you are lonely, you might always be alone. My suggestion is: smile at the world and it will smile back.
