known for his major scientific discoveries in the fields of physics and mathematics.
"We here are living in darkness, and rockets are falling on us,therefore I thought of
creating light, and did so,"said Al-Attar.His family are staying in a tent that is partly
attached to a house. He was able to climb onto the roof to set up two fans, one above the other.
The wind can turn the fans, which produce small amounts of electricity. He then connected the
fans to wires and built a charging station.Al-Attar also built switches to control a lighting
system made out of wood.
He said his first two attempts (failed and it took him a while to develop a working
system."I started developing it further, bit by bit, until I was able to extend the wires through
the room to the tent that we are living in,so that the tent will have light.
Al-Attar added he was happy to be able to create something to help ease the suffering of his
family members. He said he is looking forward to the future when.conditions can improve in

Adults are often ashamed to ask for help.Seeking (someone's help can make you
feel like you are broadcasting your inability.New research suggests young children don't seek
help in school for the same reason.
Kayla Good,a graduate student at Stanford University, and Alex Shaw,a professor of
psychology at the University of Chicago, applied a classic technique to lear more about how
children think about reputation ()Across several studies, they asked 576 children aged
four to nine to predict (the behavior of two characters,Tom and Jack,in a story.Tom
really wanted to be smart, and Jack only wanted to seem smart to others. In one study, they told
children both characters did poorly on a test, and asked which of them would be more likely to
raise their hands in front of their class to ask the teacher for help.
The four-year-olds were equally (likely to choose either of the two characters as
the one who would seek help. But by age seven or eight, children thought Jack would be less
likely to ask for help. And children's expectations were truly "reputational"in nature-they
were specially thinking about how the characters would act in front of their classmates. They
could still imagine situations where Jack would seek help:When it could be sought privately
on a computer rather than in person),children thought both characters were equally likely to ask
for il.
Given the findings,it seems quite possible that when children themselves are the ones
struggling, they, too, might avoid seeking out help if they are concerned about reputation. If
so,the unwillingness to seek help when others are present could clearly impede learning
progress. To improve in any field, one must work hard, take on challenging tasks, and ask
questions. However, the situation can be difficult when someone is concerned about his/her
impressions on others.
28.What were the children asked to predict about the two characters?
A.Their bad behaviors.
B.Their learning progress.
C.Their potential to get help.
D.Their likeliness for seeking help.
29.Who was likely to seek private help according to the eight-year-olds?
A.Tom.
B.Jack.
C.Both.
D.Neither.
30.What does the underlined word“impede”in paragraph4 probably mean?
A.Prevent.
B.Ensure.
C.Quicken.
D.Monitor.

real people around them because they are concentrating on their phones.
But does it matter if we make the most of this technology?Possibly, becnuse like a drug,
the problem arises when it is taken away.A study from King's College London found young
people they studied couldn't control the amount of time they spent on their phones.Such
addictive behavior means that people become anxious or upsel if they are refused constant
access, which can cause anxiety and mental health issues.
Interestingly, another study by the London School of Economics and Political Seience
suggests we don't just look at our phones because we are encouraged by a lext or e-mail.The
people they studied felt natural to interact with their phones, just as a smoker would light a
cigarette.Prof.Saadi Lablou,co-author of the study, told the BBC,"We must leam tricks to
avoid the lemptation (when we want to concentrate or have good social relations.
One solution could be an app that rewards students for time spent away from their phones.
