Two days before Logan Schneider’s 18th birthday, an accident happened to him. While Logan was helping his brother on the farm, a helicopter (直升飞机) fell from the sky and landed on him.
Logan said he heard some huge noises and looked up just in time to see the helicopter falling to him. He didn’t have time to think before a fire broke out (爆发). As he tried to make his way out, he heard the pilot Cori Johnson shouting for help.
“I saw him upside down hanging (倒挂). Fire was everywhere. When I was in the moment, I really wasn’t thinking. I was just doing because the situation was so perilous!” Logan said. He ran to Cori quickly and brought him away from the fire. Once Cori was on his feet, Logan helped him get away just seconds before explosion(爆炸).

I’m Lisa. A year ago, City News invited me here to make a program. It was a terrible visit. As someone in a wheelchair (轮椅), it was almost impossible for me to get around the city. I decided to write a story about my experience in the newspaper. After reading my story, officer (官员) Alex promised to make things better in the city.
Last week, I returned to see if the city had improved. I arrived at the train station early in the morning. One year ago, the station only had stairs (楼梯) up to the exit (出口). That meant that three men had to carry me out. This year, I saw that there was a new lift (电梯). And then I noticed the buttons (按钮) and they were much lower than those in “normal” lifts, so I was able to push them myself.
Then I decided to take a taxi to the city center. First, I needed to get some money from the bank. Again, I was very happy to find three ATMs outside the train station. One of them was lower than the other two, so it was the right height for wheelchair users. Later that day, I took a bus and visited some main museums and shopping centers. There were ways for wheelchair users everywhere I went.
Things are still not perfect and there is a long way to go, but I can say that Alex has kept his promise to disabled people in the city!
( )13. How has the train station improved since Lisa’s visit a year ago?
A. There has been a new lift.
B The city has made the train station more beautiful.
C. People have repaired the old lifts in the train station in the city.
D. Workers came to help her get out of the train station more quickly.
( )14.Which of the following is the right order?
①.Alex knew about Lisa’s experience.
②. Lisa saw the buttons on the new lift.
③. City News asked Lisa to come to the city.
④. Lisa went to some museums and shopping malls.
⑤. Three ATMs outside the train station made Lisa happy.
A.③-①-④-⑤-② B. ③-①-②-⑤-④
C. ①-③-④-②-⑤ D. ⑤-②-④-③-①
( )15. How did Lisa’s feelings probably change?
A. Sad → angry → nervous. B. Upset → glad → thankful.
C. Afraid → surprised → proud. D. Surprised → excited → bored.
( )16. What probably happened at the end of the story?
A.Alex gave up his job.
B. Lisa didn’t visit the city again.
C. Alex gave much money to Lisa to help her.
D. Lisa wrote about her good experience in the newspaper.

Feel down? Hug (拥抱) a tree! Recently many Chinese young people have asked trees for help with their stress. Although it sounds strange, there’s a science behind the act of treehugging.
According to the US scientist Edward Wilson in 1984, humans are born to love being around other living things. Humans’ love for nature is “in our DNA”. This idea helps to explain why people like natural and green views better than city views. It’s also one of the reasons why people love cute pets.
Why can treehugging help with our health? A study reported that the activity could increase oxytocin (催产素). It’s a hormone (荷尔蒙) that can produce feelings. The higher the level of oxytocin is, the happier you may be. Hugging trees for only 21 seconds can increase oxytocin.
Another hormone called cortisol (皮质醇) is a marker (标志) of stress. The brain produces more cortisol when the person is worried, angry or very sad. Hugging trees helps cut cortisol production and makes us feel better.
Although the activity is helpful to us, it’s important to remember that we shouldn’t hurt nature. Trees often hold valuable ecosystems (生态系统). The tree is home to many small living things that are too small to be seen. You should be kind when hugging trees, just like how you hug a friend!
