Table tennis has been played for many years and is popular around the world. The sport is beginner-friendly. But it also keeps a rich level of competitive play. However, it’s difficult for blind people to experience the joy of this sport.
Phoebe Peng an engineering student in Australia, invented a new system to help the blind play ping-pong using sound. She installed (安装) cameras and loudspeakers on sides of a traditional ping-pong table. As the cameras tracked (追踪) the movement of the ball, a computer program changed that information into sound, which was played through the loudspeakers. The blind players could use the sound to know the ball’s location, and then they could return the ball fast and correctly.
Peng showed her work on December 6 at the Acoustics 2023 Sydney. It was held from December 4 to December 8 at the International Convention Center Sydney.
Although this system worked well, Peng said more study is needed before it can be ready for actual play.” A challenge is the matter of human perception (感知) of sound, said Peng. “What kind of sound should be used? Should the sound be continuous? These are problems we are facing now, but I am sure we can solve them in the near future.”

Most people watch the CCTV Spring Festival Gala on screen. But some guests are invited to watch it in person each year, such as artists, scientists, soldiers, and other role models.
Yi Qunlin is a 58-year- old building worker in Shenzhen. He was invited to watch the gala in person after a video of him playing the piano became popular online. “I never imagined that I would have such a wonderful moment,” he said.
Yi comes from a village in Hunan Province. He has been a building worker in Shenzhen for nearly 20 years. Last April, when he and his son passed by a subway station, they saw a public piano by the side of a street. It was free for people to play. With the encouragement of his son, the elder Yi played more than 10 pieces of music and received cheers from people on the street.
Yi has had a deep love for music since he was a teenager. He first saw a piano in his aunt’s home when he was 16 and became very interested in it. As his family could afford neither a piano nor piano lessons, he learned to play the instrument by himself, by reading books on piano, playing and practicing at his aunt’s home.
Last October, Yi finally got an old piano. He spent more than one month repairing the piano and then put it in his room, which is less than 4 square meters. Now he spends two hours playing the piano every day, adding a lot of fun to his life.

On June 12th, 2024, the event of the “Bridge of the Future” China-US Youth Exchange Program was held in Beijing. A group of high school students from the US visited the Forbidden City. As their first step on the tour in Beijing, the city brought them great fun and surprises.
The Forbidden City lies in the center of Beijing, China. In 1406, the Yongle Emperor of the Ming Dynasty began to build the city and it was completed in 1420. Within the city, all the most important buildings were designed along the main axis (轴), facing south.
Among the most famous building are the Wu Gate, the Hall of Supreme Harmony (Taihedian) and the Imperial Garden (Yuhuayuan). The Wu Gate is the southern entrance (入口) to the Forbidden City. Behind the Wu Gate lies a large yard. The Inner Golden River runs through it. The river is crossed by five white marble (大理石) bridges, which lead to the Gate of Supreme Harmony (Taihemen).
North of the Gate of Supreme Harmony lies the Outer Court, the heart of the Forbidden City. There, the three main halls stand on a high terrace (平台) overlooking a large square. There, you can see the Hall of Supreme Harmony, which is the largest building in the city as well as one of the tallest. To the north stand the Hall of Central Harmony (Zhonghedian) and the Hall of Preserving Harmony (Baohedian).
Further north is the Inner Court, where the emperor lived. In the most northern part of the Forbidden City is a garden, which was made as a place for the emperor to relax.
The Forbidden City, a symbol of ancient Chinese buildings and history, left a deep impression on high school students from the US, promoting (促进) cultural exchange between China and the US.

Table tennis has been played for many years and is popular around the world. The sport is beginner-friendly. But it also keeps a rich level of competitive play. However, it’s difficult for blind people to experience the joy of this sport.
Phoebe Peng, an engineering student in Australia, invented a new system to help the blind play ping-pong using sound. She installed (安装) cameras and loudspeakers on sides of a traditional ping-pong table. As the cameras tracked (追踪) the movement of the ball, a computer program changed that information into sound, which was played through the loudspeakers. The blind players could use the sound to know the ball’s location, and then they could return the ball fast and correctly.

On June 12th, 2024, the event of the “Bridge of the Future” China-US Youth Exchange Program was held in Beijing. A group of high school students from the US visited the Forbidden City. As their first step on the tour in Beijing, the city brought them great fun and surprises.
The Forbidden City lies in the center of Beijing, China. In 1406, the Yongle Emperor of the Ming Dynasty began to build the city and it was completed in 1420. Within the city, all the most important buildings were designed along the main axis (轴), facing south.
Among the most famous building are the Wu Gate, the Hall of Supreme Harmony (Taihedian) and the Imperial Garden (Yuhuayuan). The Wu Gate is the southern entrance (入口) to the Forbidden City. Behind the Wu Gate lies a large yard. The Inner Golden River runs through it. The river is crossed by five white marble (大理石) bridges, which lead to the Gate of Supreme Harmony (Taihemen).
North of the Gate of Supreme Harmony lies the Outer Court, the heart of the Forbidden City. There, the three main halls stand on a high terrace (平台) overlooking a large square. There, you can see the Hall of Supreme Harmony, which is the largest building in the city as well as one of the tallest. To the north stand the Hall of Central Harmony (Zhonghedian) and the Hall of Preserving Harmony (Baohedian).
