I’m still sitting here writing my paper. I’ve had two weeks to prepare and write it and I need to hand it in tomorrow. A month ago, I made a decision to never leave things to the last minute. Well, I’ve failed. I’ve also been trying to go running to get healthier with my classmates after school for four weeks. But I really feel it’s difficult to follow my plan now. Why is it so hard to break a bad habit and form a good one? I’ve just read an article and I’ve discovered that it isn’t my problem! In fact, it’s our brains. Our brains are programmed (设定) to make it difficult to break bad habits. The study shows when we do something the same way repeatedly, our brain notices. It’s just like, “Oh, writing a paper is hard. We still have time. We can relax for now? Got it!” If we always do things like that, we get “into the habit” of leaving things to the last minute. We may even get a reward (奖励) from this bad habit, at least at first. Our brain may say, “Ah, relaxation! I like this!” Slowly, it seems that we can’t stop doing the habit or control it. Maybe it’s because we don’t know how to get the rewards without doing it. But that’s not all. Scientists have also discovered that it takes ten weeks to form a good habit. That’s because ten weeks is the amount of time the brain needs to change and accept a new habit as part of everyday life. The good news is that once you make it to ten weeks, everything becomes a lot easier. The bad news is that ten weeks is a really long time, so you may give up your plan sooner. So there you are. Maybe we want to change our ways and become better people, but our brains won’t let us. Or is this just an excuse? Look—I have finished my paper on time! Anything is possible! By Ana 11. What is Ana? A. A school student. B. A college teacher. C. A running star. D. A brain scientist. 12. What problem does Ana have according to paragraph 1? A. She has failed to finish reading a book. B. She doesn’t dare to keep running alone. C. It’s hard for her to keep a good habit. D. The paper is too difficult for her to finish. 13. What can be a reason why it’s hard to break a bad habit? A. Our brains avoid doing things repeatedly. B Our brains are not programmed to notice it. C. Our brains need to relax from time to time. D. Our brains enjoy getting the rewards from doing it. 14. How many more weeks will it take Ana to develop her habit of running? A. Four. B. Six. C. Eight. D. Ten. 15. What does Ana want to tell us at the end of the text? A. You’d better finish your paper on time. B. Don’t forget to make a plan first. C. It depends on you to control your habits. D. Keep on with the ways you are doing things. D Plastic (塑料) is truly everywhere in our daily lives. From the food we eat to the air we breathe, tiny particles (颗粒) of plastic—also known as “micro plastics”—can be found in almost anything. Plastic does not only cause real disaster on our oceans and take centuries to break down, causing even more of an environmental problem, but also hurts us humans. Scientists have questioned whether eating micro plastics can negatively affect human health, especially if there are pieces of plastıc you’ re using in daily life, like the plastic cutting board. A recent study checked the amount of micro plastics found in the carrots cut on two different types of plastic cutting boards. At the end of the study, scientists found these plastic cutting boards resulted in 1,114 micro plastic particles (pieces of plastic less than 5 millimeters long) on the carrots each time the board was used. This means a plastic cutting board could make 15 milligrams of micro plastics per cut, and around 50 grams a year— it’s the weight of 10 plastic credit cards. ▲ Evidence suggests that micro plastics can be found in our blood and our bodies, and can be potentially harmful to our physical health. But Dr. LeBeau, the leader of the study, points out that the study does prove the producing of micro plastic particles, but does not prove the cutting boards can have the negative influence to human health. He said, “In fact, we’re already consuming (消耗) so many micro plastics throughout our day( like in our food we eat from production or even sometimes in our water), that the micro plastics from cutting boards won’t make a huge difference. So we don’t need to worry about it too much.” Dr. Lebeau also brings up weighing the pros and cons (利弊) of using other types of cutting boards. Using a wood cutting board may seem cleaner and safer, but these products may not be completely disinfected (消毒) and it may increase the risk of food-borne illness. “If you would like to avoid both altogether, I suggest replacing your plastic and wood cutting boards with ones that are made from bamboo. Just be sure to clean it as completely as possible.” He said. 16. What can we learn about micro plastics according to paragraph 1 and 2? A. They are only found in the food we eat and the air we breathe. B. They are tiny particles of plastic which may cause a health risk. C. They break down quickly and will cause few environmental problems. D. They are mainly found in oceans and have no influence on human health. 17. How does the writer talk about the result of the study in paragraph 3? A. By giving advice. B. By listing numbers. C. By telling stories. D. By asking questions. 18. Which of the following sentences can be put in ▲ in paragraph 4? A. With so many micro plastics in our food, should we be worried? B. To solve the problems with micro plastics, what else can we do? C. So many micro plastics are found on carrots, but what about other vegetables? D. Since micro plastics are so common, how can we avoid them in our daily life? 19. What may Dr. Lebeau suggest according to his words? A. Micro plastics have great influence on humans. B. Micro plastics will bring more problems in our life. C. Wood cutting boards are not as clean as the plastic ones. D. Safety is the key point people think about while using cutting boards. 20. What is the text mainly about? A. The introduction of micro plastics. B. The importance of protecting the environment. C. The relationship between micro plastics and humans. D. The differences between different kinds of cutting boards. 第二节 阅读七选五 (共5小题; 每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Festivals let us enjoy life. Our brains avoid doing things repeatedly. B. Our brains are not programmed to notice it. A. A.
