B Ranjita Gogoi was born in a small village Assam in 1962. When she was a girl, everyone could find Ranjita Gogoi jumping and running around all the time. Also, she never felt tired. In college, she became the volleyball captain. But sports gave way to marriage and her children. However, one thing that remained in her mind was going to the gym. What changed this mother of two into a champion was the opening of a swimming pool in 2011. Ranjita, who was then in her late 40s, dove into the pool. Soon, she started competing in national and international level competitions and winning many games. Interested in competitive sports, she then tried her hand at powerlifting (举重) and wrestling too. The result earned her the title of “Iron Lady of Assam” at the state level. “We are happy she can take up her hobbies. I remember the first time she won a competition in swimming. It was about in 2013 or 2014 and we held a big party for her with all relatives and friends. It was one of her happiest moment I had ever seen,” said her son Anjumon, his voice filled with pride. After completing a degree in agriculture in college, Ranjita got a job. After marriage, she moved to the Philippines for a few years for her husband’s PhD degree. Always eager to learn, she went after a course in computer programming there. “I always had an idea to move up in life and looked for solutions no matter what challenges I faced,” said the champion. Ranjita kept herself busy tending to her beautiful garden, a hobby that she continues even today. She was soon kept busier because she would compete in more new sports events other than swimming and wrestling. 24. What do we know about Ranjita Gogoi in her childhood? A. She did well in school. B. The Hobbies of a Special Champion C More American states are pushing for cellphone restrictions (限制) in high schools. The move comes mainly because teachers say it is a major problem in the classroom. In a recent public study, the Pew Research Center reported that 72 percent of U.S. high school teachers say cellphone distraction (分心) is a major problem in the classroom. Teachers report less of a problem with younger students. About 33 percent of middle school teachers and 6 percent of elementary school teachers see cellphone use as a problem. Many educators in the U.S. said students used social media, listened to music, and shopped online during the school day. So, there is a need to take some measures. In July, Virginia became the latest state to restrict cellphone use in public schools. The state’ s governor, Glenn Youngkin, issued (公布) an order for local schools. Youngkin’s order said, “Studies show that students who use their phones during class learn less and achieve lower grades. They also show an alarming mental health possibility among young people. The possibility is driven by the use of cellphones and social media. So the restriction has to be implemented.” Last year, Florida became the first state to restrict the use of cellphones in schools. A law that took effect in July requires all Florida public schools to ban student cellphone use during class time. The states of Indiana and Ohio passed their own laws this year. Several others, including Oklahoma, Vermont, and Kansas, have also recently introduced what is called “phone-free schools” law. New York Governor Kathy Hochul said she will push for law to ban cellphone use in 2025. Some students say such restriction will take away their independence and cut off their main method of communication with family and friends. Some parents fear the children can’t get in touch with them if they meet challenges and trouble, so they argue against the rules. 28. What is the second paragraph mainly about? A. The process of a study on cellphones. B. The result of the cellphone restriction. C. The reasons for the cellphone restriction. D. The importance of a study on cellphones. 29. What does the underlined word “implemented” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Applied. B. Exchanged. C. Improved. D. Debated. 30. Which state first restricted the cellphone use in class in the text? A. Ohio. B. Florida. C. Indiana. D. New York State. 31. Why are some parents against the cellphone restriction in the text? A. The restriction is hard to understand. B. Their kids’ mental health is neglected. C. Their kids’ independence is influenced. D. The restriction adds difficulty to communication. D Scientists from Fudan University have reached a breakthrough in creating a device (装置) that could enable people lying on the bed to walk again. Using the new device, people who are disabled could gain control of the muscles in their legs and walk again. The spinal cord (脊髓) functions as a high-speed system connecting the brain and the surrounding nerve system. If the spinal cord is damaged, the instructions from the brain telling muscles to move can’t be transported. And patients will possibly lose the ability to move. Nerve injury is impossible to change for the better. There are 3.74 million patients with spinal cord injuries in China, and there are about 90,000 new patients in the country each year. So the new device will mean a lot if it is used in hospitals. Last year, a research team from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne carried out brain-spinal connection research on disabled patients. By collecting and figuring out brain signals and connecting the brain and spinal cord nerve pathways, the team was able to help the patients with spinal cord injuries gain control of their muscles again. However, challenges were in front of researchers, including understanding the exact activity in the brain and encouraging clinical (临床的) application. In response to these problems, Fudan researchers invented a new generation of device. Compared with the Swiss team’s research, which required patients to have three devices in their brain, Fudan research team combined the three devices into a single one. Besides, the new device allows the brain- spinal connection to be exact and fast. Moreover, the new device makes adjustments according to a patient’s movements of their legs. As a result, patients will walk normally like healthy people. Such a device means that in the future, the patients with spinal cord injuries will walk more naturally and smoothly. Jia Fumin, the lead researcher, said that clinical trials are expected to begin at a hospital later this year. 32. What’s the result of the damaged spinal cord? A. The brain stops giving instructions. B. Patients end up losing their balance. C. The movement signals fail to be received. D. Muscles connect with the brains directly. 33. What is one of the difficulties for the Swiss team? A. Helping patients control muscles. B. Lacking fund to support the research. C. Collecting and processing brain signals. D. Understanding the exact brain activity. 34. What can we learn about the new device? A. It is made up of three parts. B. It has been used in hospitals. C. It speeds patients’ movement. D. It makes patients’ natural walking possible. 35. What’s Jia Fumin’s attitude to the new device? A. Positive. B. Curious. C. Uncertain. D. Worried. There are many ways to be a better person. But Tommy didn’t feel brave, not at all. They couldn’t get out of the door. They could see smoke flowing in beneath the door. They could hear people screaming and running, and in the distance, he heard the fire engine sirens (鸣笛声). The fire engines arrived, and immediately, the firemen jumped into action. A man climbed up into their house and stretched out his arms to Tommy. “Come on, buddy!” he said. “Let’s go!” But Tommy started backing away, shaking his head. “Listen,” the fireman said. “If you come with me, I’ll make you a deputy (副警长), and you can ride in the fire truck. How about that?” “With a badge?” asked Tommy. The fireman nodded, and Tommy stepped forward. Before he knew it, he was in the ambulance, next to his mom. The doctors said they needed to be in the hospital for a few days. Tommy was very bored. He didn’t have his iPad, so a nurse gave him paper and some crayons. He started drawing a picture, and it was a great picture! When the nurse came back, she was astonished. “WOW,” she shouted. “You’re quite an artist! Are those the firemen who rescued you?” “Yes,” said Tommy proudly. “They said I’d be a deputy, and ride in the fire truck... But I think they will forget. Grown-ups forget stuff a lot! So I drew these pictures for them so they won’t forget. I’ll ask Mom to send them.” “I’m sure they will remember,” the nurse said. “But how about letting me send them your pictures? Your mom is still pretty tired.” Even though the nurse sent the pictures, the firemen didn’t show up, and Tommy was sure they’d forgotten all about their promise. One day several weeks later, Tommy heard someone knock on the door. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After a while, Tommy found that he was in a fire station. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null 江西省2024—2025学年上学期第一次模拟选科联考 高一英语 试卷共8页,67小题,满分150分。 How much is the shirt? My name is Lily and I’m honored to stand here to share my most meaningful experience with you. Last weekend I took part in a community voluntary activity. To do a better job, I had been required to study how to sort garbage through a video. But it was difficult for me and I felt confused. Thankfully, my parents came to teach me and finally I was offered a chance to do something for the activity. Then it was time for the voluntary activity. The purpose was to understand the importance of garbage-sorting and protecting the environment. All the volunteers gathered at the school gate early in the morning and then we took a bus to the community. On arriving at the community, we were divided into four groups, each making a speech to people living there. We gave a detailed introduction about the measures of garbage-sorting. Meanwhile, we stressed the difference it would make to our community. Moreover, a special question-and-answer activity left the best impression on the people. Through this activity, we have not only enriched our social experience, but also understood the value of environmental protection. 根据第一段“When she was a girl, everyone could find Ranjita Gogoi jumping and running around all the time. Also, she never felt tired. (当Ranjita Gogoi还是个小女孩的时候,每个人都能发现她总是蹦蹦跳跳地跑来跑去。而且,她从不觉得累。)”可知,RanjitaGogoi小时候总是跑跑跳跳,而且不感觉到累,所以童年的她是精力充沛的。故选B。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段第一句话“What changed this mother of two into a champion was the opening of a swimming pool in 2011. (让这位两个孩子的母亲成为冠军的是2011年开放的一个游泳池。)”可知,Ranjita Gogoi人生改变的转折点是一个游泳池的开放。故选A。 根据第三段““We are happy she can take up her hobbies. I remember the first time she won a competition in swimming. It was about in 2013 or 2014 and we held a big party for her with all relatives and friends. 【答案】28. C 29. A 30. B 31. Teachers report less of a problem with younger students. About 33 percent of middle school teachers and 6 percent of elementary school teachers see cellphone use as a problem. Many educators in the U.S. said students used social media, listened to music, and shopped online during the school day. 根据画线词的上文“Studies show that students who use their phones during class learn less and achieve lower grades. They also show an alarming mental health possibility among young people. The possibility is driven by the use of cellphones and social media. (研究表明,在课堂上使用手机的学生学得更少,成绩也更差。它们还显示出年轻人在心理健康方面存在令人担忧的可能性。这种可能性是由手机和社交媒体的使用推动的)”可知,在课堂上使用手机对学生的学业表现和心理健康有负面影响。由此可知,限制手机使用的规定不得不实施,画线词意思应该是“实施,执行”,与Applied意思相近。故选A项。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Last year, Florida became the first state to restrict the use of cellphones in schools. In response to these problems Fudan researchers invented a new generation of device. A. Positive. B. Curious. C. Uncertain. D. Worried. 【答案】32. C 33. D 34. D 35. (如果脊髓受损,大脑告诉肌肉运动的指令就无法传递。)”可知,脊髓损伤的结果是身体(肌肉)移动的信号不能被接收。故选C。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“However, challenges were in front of researchers, including understanding the exact activity in the brain and encouraging clinical (临床的) application. (然而,研究人员面临的挑战包括了解大脑的确切活动和鼓励临床应用。)”可知,瑞士的研究人员面临的困难之一是需要了解大脑的具体活动。故选D。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“As a result, patients will walk normally like healthy people. (因此,患者将像健康人一样正常行走。)”可知,使用这种新设备的病人将像健康的人那样正常走路。故选D。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Such a device means that in the future, the patients with spinal cord injuries will walk more naturally and smoothly. Jia Fumin, the lead researcher, said that clinical trials are expected to begin at a hospital later this year. (这样的装置意味着在未来,脊髓损伤的患者将会更加自然和平稳地行走。首席研究员加福民表示,临床试验预计将于今年晚些时候在一家医院开始。)”可知,在未来,患有脊髓损伤的病人将行走得更自然和顺畅,该设备有望在医院里开始临床试验,所以可以推测 Jia Fumin对这种设备的态度是积极的。故选A。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 There are many ways to be a better person. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 One day several weeks later, Tommy heard someone knock on the door. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After a while, Tommy found that he was in a fire station. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One day several weeks later, Tommy heard someone knock on the door. Reading his confusion, the fireman smiled again and told Tommy he would understand what would happen next. After a while, Tommy found that he was in a fire station. He was surrounded by firemen! “Tommy,” one of them said. “I’m captain Jack , and I am here to make you a deputy!” Tommy was glad! He couldn’t stop smiling, and he was even happier when he went for a ride in the big fire truck! It was the happiest day in Tommy’s life.
