教学实施过程:
1. Have students discuss the topic of first-aid skills by answering the following questions.
(1) Why is it necessary for people to learn some first-aid skills?
First-aid skills are the basic skills that people learn to protect themselves when an
accident occurs. In some extreme cases, a person may save another person’s life in an
emergency. For example, if someone suddenly has a heart attack and there is no doctor
around, a person with first-aid skills will know how to perform CPR to keep the patient alive
before the ambulance arrives.
(2) Look at the health problems listed in part A on page 41. Can you think of more examples?
I can think of more health problems such as allergies, choking and fractures.
2. Have students work in groups to discuss the following questions.
(1) Which first-aid skill would your group like to research?
We are going to do research on the first-aid skill for cuts.
(2) Why do you want to research this skill?
Because young people are more likely to suffer small cuts when using sharp objects like a
knife or a pair of scissors.
3. Have students read the example in part C on page 41 and answer the following questions.
批 注
(1) What is the topic of this booklet?
The booklet introduces the first aid for minor burns.
(2) What do you notice first in the booklet?
The illustrations grab my attention first. They help me understand what to do when there is
a burn. The key words that head each column are catchy and easy to remember.
(3) What information does the booklet include?
It includes some dos and don’ts when there is a minor burn, as well as suggestions for
severe burns.
(4) What should be done when having a minor burn according to the example?
Once a burn happens, it is better to cool it down as soon as possible with running water for
a few minutes until the pain is reduced. If bubbles appear, make sure not to break them;
they help protect the skin. Then put some medicine on the burnt area and cover it with a
bandage. Take care not to cover the burn too tightly, in case the skin is damaged. If the burn
is severe, especially when the skin is damaged, you should ask for emergency help
immediately in order to prevent infection or other health problems.
4. Have students discuss what information should be included in their part of the booklet
with the help of the ideas in part B on page 41.
5. Have students research their chosen topic and put together the information to make their
part of the booklet. Use pictures or illustrations if necessary.
6. Have students present their work to the class and make some explanations to their work.
7. Have students evaluate their peers’ work and give their comments.
8. Have students put all the parts together to make a booklet on first-aid skills.
