Have you seen tigers in the zoos? I think a tiger is one of the most favorite animals in the zoo. But now there are about 3, 200 tigers in the world, and the amount of them is reducing. What caused them to reduce? Because many forests are cut down and they have no place to live in. In order to protect them, we must build many natural reserves. And we must stop people from hunting.

Wolves have thick grey fur. They are not very big. But they can see, hear and smell things far away. They work as a team and never kill for fun. Now they are losing their living areas. People kill them because they think wolves are dangerous to humans. I think we should take action to protect them. For example, we can build more reserves and make laws to help them.

Traps (陷阱) are also a danger. “Volunteers from WWF remove traps every year, but we cannot clear all the traps ourselves,” Zhu said. Most big animals can’t live in the desert because they need a few litres (公升) of water every day. They can’t keep water in their bodies for a long time. But camels are different. They can drink 90 litres of water in ten minutes, and then drink nothing for a week.

Passage 2
Can plants eat people? Maybe not, but there are many plants that eat meat. Some of them are big, and they can eat small animals. One famous meat-eating plant is the Venus flytrap(捕蝇草).
The Venus flytrap is a very strange plant. It grows in dry parts of the United States. Its leaves are like the pages of a book. They can open and close very quickly. Inside the leaves, there are three small hairs. If a fly(苍蝇) touches one of the hairs, the leaf closes quickly. The fly cannot get out. In about half an hour, the leaf presses(压) the fly until it is dead. Then, the plant covers the fly. Slowly, the plant eats the fly.
Plants are living things that have leaves and roots and grow in earth. Most plants get what they need from the sun, the air and the ground. In some places, the ground is very poor. It doesn’t have all these important things, especially nitrogen(氮). Animal meat has a lot of nitrogen, so some plants eat meat to get what they need. The red kangaroo(袋鼠)is a famous special Australian animal. It moves by jumping on its long hind(后面的)legs. One jump may be 9 meters long and up to 3 meters high. Its heavy, long tail helps it keep balance.
We can find the red kangaroo mainly in the dry grassland of Australia. It usually travels in small groups. Each group has 2-10 kangaroos.
When a red baby kangaroo is born, it is only a few centimetres long. After being born, it crawls(爬行)through the mother's fur(毛皮)to her pouch(育儿袋). In hard times, the mother kangaroo can stop the baby from being born till there is enough grass for her to eat.
The mother feeds the baby with milk from her body. The joey will spend about two hundred and forty days in the pouch.
Kangaroos can live for up to 20 years. A kangaroo never stops growing bigger, so an old kangaroo can be very large. There are probably millions of kangaroos of all types in Australia.

Passage 2
When people think of tigers, words like “ strong” and “dangerous” come into their mind. But now, the big animal is calling for our help. There were once eight kinds of tigers in the world, but three died out during last century. In the past 70 years, the number of the Siberian tigers has gone from as many as 300 to somewhere between 18 and 22.
The World Wildlife Fund started a programme. It is about to put an end to tiger poaching (非法狩猎) and save wild tigers. China, together with 12 other countries, has joined in. The aim is to double the number of wild tigers in the next ten years.
According to research by Chinese officers and WWF, the Siberian tiger is already one of the world’s most endangered animals (濒危动物). “If the government doesn’t do anything, it’s quite possible that there will be no more Siberian tigers in China in 10 to 20 years.” said Zhu Chunguan, director at WWF’s Beijing office.
Wild animals such as deer and wild boars are tigers’ main food. The poaching of these animals is the greatest danger to tigers. Traps (陷阱) are also a danger. “Volunteers from WWF remove traps every year, but we cannot clear all the traps ourselves,” Zhu said. The most important thing people can do is to save the animals tigers eat. “To protect the tigers, we need to call on more people to stop hunting wild animals.”
15.What is the main idea of the first paragraph?
A.Tigers are not strong any more. B.There are only three kinds of tigers in the world.

C.Different kinds of traps are still in the wild. D.People are trying to stop tigers poaching.
Passage 3
There is almost no water in the desert (沙漠), but many animals can live in it. How do these animals get water and stay alive?
Everything is hot and dry in the daytime, but the night is cold. Plants often have dew (露珠) on them in the early morning. This is because cold air can’t hold as much water as hot air. Small insects can drink the dew, and bigger animals eat the plants with the dew on them.
Some small animals get water from the bodies of insects. Bigger animals get water from the bodies of small animals. This North American bird is called a roadrunner (走鹃). It runs fast and catches small snakes, lizards and scorpions.
Some animals can wait many years for water. When the rain falls, baby shrimps (虾) come out of their eggs. They grow quickly and lay new eggs. Then the water dries up, and the shrimps die. But the new eggs do not die. They wait in the ground for the next rain. They can wait for 50 years.
Most big animals can’t live in the desert because they need a few litres (公升) of water every day. They can’t keep water in their bodies for a long time. But camels are different. They can drink 90 litres of water in ten minutes, and then drink nothing for a week.
18.From the passage we know that the desert is a place with ________.

C.Bigger animals get water from the bodies of insects and small animals.
D.Hot air can hold more water than cold air.

People often killed Milu deer for food or sport. The Ming and Qing dynasties(朝代) did not protect them and killed many. That is how the Milu deer disappeared(消失) from China.
Luckily, before all of them lost their lives, someone took some deer to Britain to improve the environment of the beautiful park which belonged to Duke of Bedford(贝德福特公爵). He liked them so much that he took them from China to Britain. Milu deer liked the cool, wet weather in England and their number increased (增加)year by year. As a result, when in 1985,the government of China wanted to bring back the Milu deer, the Duke of Bedford was able to help. The first deer came back to China to the Nanhaizi Milu Park 20 kilometres south of Beijing and the centre in Dafeng, Jiangsu Province.
The deer certainly seem happy to be back in China because their number has grown quickly. There are now so many of them that people have opened a new centre for them in Hubei Province.
