(2024·河北·模拟预测)Standing on the South Pole at the start of the year with the wind blowing across the Antarctic, travel blogger Johnny Ward felt a wave of relief.
Just a week before, in early January 2024, he’d struggled through snow and ice to climb to the top of the Vinson Massif, Antarctica’s highest peak. Years before, in 2017, he’d become the first Irish person to visit every country in the world.
Now, after decades of traveling and mountaineering, Ward could claim another world first — the Ultimate Explorer’s Grand Slam (大满贯), which involves reaching the highest peak on every continent, and visiting both the North and South Poles in addition to visiting every country.
“I feel relieved,” Ward recalled as he slowly made his way back to his home in Thailand after climbing to the top of the Vinson Massif and then setting foot on the South Pole. “But also I’m aware I’m a normal guy, not a world-class athlete, so I guess it was more about resilience and determination more than any ability. Although I met with lots of barriers, I overcame them one by one.”
Ward had previously devoted a decade of his life, between 2007 and 2017, to visiting every country in the world. The incredible journey saw him hitchhike (搭便车) a ride on a container ship from Oman to Socotra in Yemen, travel overland from Cairo to Cape Town and travel from South Korea to Australia by bus and boat.
“It had been a huge life goal, over a decade of my life, and then when I finished that I was aimless and had no idea what to do next,” he said. “I started eating badly, drinking too much, putting on weight and I ignored my business.”
Ward decided that the best way to overcome this was to challenge himself again. He began running ultramarathons (超级马拉松) and climbing mountains, and soon found that with extreme purpose and direction, he was back to loving life again.
So where will Ward go next? Space? The bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest point of the ocean? “All good things come after suffering, and I want to share that with people. So that’s the next plan,” he said.
1.What did Johnny Ward achieve in early January 2024?
A.He climbed to the highest peak in Antarctica.
B.He set a new record for traveling in Antarctica.
C.He became the first person to visit the South Pole.
D.He became the first Irish person to visit every country.
2.What does the underlined word “resilience” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The ability to bounce back from difficulties. B.The quality of being strong and honest.
C.The skill of achieving goals quickly. D.The power to control one’ s emotions.
3.How did Johnny Ward feel after achieving his life goal in 2017?
A.Relaxed. B.Satisfied. C.Lost. D.Excited.
4.Which of the following can best describe Johnny Ward?
A.Helpful and motivated. B.Athletic and generous.
C.Proud and self-centered. D.Determined and strong-willed.

(23-24高二下·江苏宿迁·期中)“We don’t mind using GPS,” says our Aboriginal guide Baamba in his Australian accent, as he looks out across the wilderness which belongs to his tribe. The red ground ahead is covered with bushes and trees. Although it’s early, it’s already 30 degrees in the shade. It’s a difficult hike, but Baamba is a sensible guide: he always carries a satellite phone in his backpack in case of emergencies. His ancestors, however, relied on songs.
The early Australian Aborigines made the land navigable (可航行的) through songs, dance and paintings. The songs described pathways or “songlines”, which provided an oral “map” of the land. They showed people where to find a water hole, where there was a river and where they could hunt. Generations of Aboriginals followed these pathways, leaving clear marks and carvings on rocks and trees to help future travelers. “But the songs describe more than a pathway,” explains Baamba. “They also tell stories about how the world was created.” According to Aboriginal stories, the world was created, when giant beings, part human, part animal, came down from the sky. From across the sea and from deep in the earth.
One of the many sacred sites called Arkaroo Rock was mentioned in the songs and stories about the land. These songs and stories show the close relationship between the native people and their environment, how they saw themselves as part of nature rather than master of it, and how their way of life resulted in a valuable knowledge of their land. It was a way of life with more than 2,000 generations. It was a way of life that was safe from invasion and influence until 1788.
____________ Sadly, this destroyed their ancient way of life, and many Aboriginal songlines were lost. Today, people like Baamba are trying to restore this heritage and preserve it.
It’s late now and Baamba is waiting outside Arkaroo Rock. Inside, we’re admiring the beautiful cave paintings, but as soon as we have taken some photos, we leave. Dark clouds are visible on the horizon—there are already flashes of lightning and thunder in the distance. As we drive away, the wind blows through the trees, and we can almost hear the voices of those first Australians, singing the songs of their ancestors, and following the songlines.
1.Why does the writer mention Baamba’s ancestors’ songs in paragraph 1?
A.To promote these songs, special culture. B.To draw readers’ attention to the theme.
C.To show off the old but advanced songs. D.To advertise the place’s tourist attractions.
2.What can we know about songlines according to the passage?
A.Songlines were printed maps of die land.
B.Sonlines were mainly used to help hunters.
C.Songlines were a symbol of bravery of the Aborigines.
D.Songlines played a key role in finding people’s way around.
3.What will the author most probably talk about in the blank of paragraph 4?
A.Songlines were negatively influenced by strange tourists.
B.The Aborigines experienced a terrible natural disaster in 1788.
C.The Aborigines celebrated their victories for defeating the enemy.
D.Foreigners’ invasion since 1788 resulted in the natives’ life destroyed.
4.What is the best title of the passage?
A.Guidelines. B.Songlines. C.Exploration. D.Tradition.
根据第一段“It’s a difficult hike, but Baamba is a sensible guide: he always carries a satellite phone in his backpack in case of emergencies. His ancestors, however, relied on songs.”(这是一次艰难的徒步旅行,但Baamba是一个明智的导游:他总是在背包里带着一个卫星电话,以防紧急情况。然而,他的祖先依靠歌曲。)以及下文讲述了澳大利亚原住民如何通过歌曲来导航可知,作者提到Baamba祖先的歌曲是为了引导读者关注本文的主题。故选B。
2.细节理解题。根据文章第二段的描述“The songs described pathways or “songlines”, which provided an oral “map” of the land. They showed people where to find a water hole, where there was a river and where they could hunt.”(这些歌曲描述了路径或“歌线”,它们提供了一种口头的“地图”。它们告诉人们在哪里可以找到水洞,哪里有河流,以及在哪里可以狩猎。)可知,歌之径在找到人们的路上起着关键作用,故选D。
3.推理判断题。根据文章第三段的描述,“It was a way of life with more than 2,000 generations. It was a way of life that was safe from invasion and influence until 1788.”(这是一种生活方式,已经有超过2000代的历史。这种生活方式在1788年之前是安全的,没有受到侵略和影响。)根据第四段“Sadly, this destroyed their ancient way of life, and many Aboriginal songlines were lost.”(可惜,这摧毁了他们的古老生活方式,许多原住民的歌线也丧失了。)可推知,1788年以后的外国人的侵略导致了原住民的生活被破坏,故选D。
4.主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“His ancestors, however, relied on songs.”(然而,他的祖先依靠歌曲。)根据最后一段“As we drive away, the wind blows through the trees, and we can almost hear the voices of those first Australians, singing the songs of their ancestors, and following the songlines.”(当我们开车离开时,风吹过树林,我们几乎可以听到第一批澳大利亚人的声音,他们唱着他们祖先的歌曲,跟着歌之径)可知,短文主要讲述了澳大利亚原住民如何通过歌曲来导航,以及这些歌曲和故事如何展示了原住民与他们的环境之间的紧密关系。所以短文的标题为“歌之径”。故选B。

(23-24高二下·江苏镇江·阶段练习)Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands are remote, rocky and endlessly fascinating. The wildlife encounters are quietly breathtaking and the scenery is amazing. The chance to experience this special region on an adventure voyage is both an advantage and an inspiration, and now also an opportunity to give back by getting involved in scientific research.
Citizen science — where you help scientists collect data that feeds into important research projects — gathers valuable data for making informed decisions about urgent issues like climate change and wildlife conservation. “It gave the trip more purpose.” is in the words of one citizen scientist.
Becoming a citizen scientist is simple. All of our polar voyage partners operate citizen science programmes on their ships. Fun, interactive and informative, they are completely voluntary and no prior scientific knowledge is required. It’s about sharing new discoveries and deepening your connection to the natural world with small groups of like-minded people.
On a typical citizen science programme, you will usually be invited to participate in at least one session on most days. A typical day might involve a seabird count at 14:00 and a cloud survey at 18:00. Or you might be photographing whales and noting their unique markings. In addition, a citizen science coordinator (协调员) will arrange short lectures.
Take two examples from Polar Latitudes (the first to offer citizen science projects in the polar regions), and their ship the Seaventure: citizen scientists studying cloud formations in Antarctica have provided a great deal of information about how global warming is deeply impacting climate change. Just a few readings taken during the course of each voyage have resulted in a wealth of data. Thousands of whale tail photos taken by citizen scientists, meanwhile, provided data that was crucial to the creation of a 20,000-sq-km slow-down zone to reduce ship strikes.
There are often multiple chances to collaborate (协作) on different projects during your voyage and on-board citizen science coordinators will keep you posted on the projects you can participate in each day.
1.What is an adventure voyage in Antarctica now special for?
A.The chance to contribute to scientific studies.
B.The opportunity to experience wildlife encounters.
C.The possibility of visiting remote and rocky regions.
D.The availability of interactive entertaining programmes.
2.How can a visitor become a citizen scientist?
A.By presenting short lectures on the ship. B.By passing a basic scientific knowledge test.
C.By making a citizen scientific research plan. D.By volunteering to attend a citizen science project.
3.What is a typical activity for a citizen scientist during their voyage?
A.Conducting field experiments. B.Analyzing historical weather data.
C.Organizing book sharing meetings. D.Assisting with animal conservation efforts.
4.What does the last but one paragraph imply about citizen science programmes?
A.They require broad scientific knowledge.
B.They make a great difference to scientific research.
C.They are available on every voyage in the Antarctic.
D.They mainly focus on global warming and its impact.
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.D 4.B

(23-24高二下·江苏连云港·期中)China’s tourism market showed a better-than-expected performance over the eight-day Spring Festival holiday, which started on Feb. 10.
The latest figures from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism showed that traveler numbers as well as tourism-related income during the holiday reached record highs, thanks to people’s ever-stronger desire to travel, enough market supplies and good tourism policies.
The ministry said on Sunday that the domestic tourism market saw 474 million trips during the holiday, up 34.3 percent year-on-year. The number marked a 19 percent increase compared with the same holiday period in 2019. Domestic tourism-related income reached 632.69 billion yuan ($87.95 billion) during the holiday, a striking increase of 47.3 percent year-on-year and 7.7 percent growth from the same holiday period in 2019.
Xiao Peng, a researcher with travel portal (旅游网), Qunar, said that the longer holiday this year — it usually lasts seven days in other years — made tourism-focused trips a more popular choice among the Chinese.
Southern destinations with warmer climate or tropical views, such as Kunming, Yunnan province, and Sanya, Hainan province, remained top choices for tourists, according to travel agencies. Return-flight tickets in economy class departing Sanya were sold out early, leaving only tickets in business or first class.
Tuniu, another travel portal, said that destinations and museums with a rich cultural atmosphere or those highlighting cultural elements of the dragon were favored by travelers marking the beginning of the Year of the Dragon.
In addition, some northern destinations with snow and ice views also proved popular during the holiday. Among them, Harbin Ice-Snow World in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang received 329,000 visits from Feb 10 to Wednesday — the first five days of the holiday — with the traveler number marking a surge of 115 percent from the previous year, according to Harbin’s culture and tourism bureau.
Besides the prosperous domestic tourism, the home and abroad tourism market also delivered a surprisingly good performance during the holiday.
1.How is Paragraph 3 organized?
A.By listing data. B.By giving examples.
C.By quoting sayings. D.By analyzing the reasons.
2.What can we learn about the longer holiday from Xiao Peng?
A.It brought a rich cultural atmosphere.

(23-24高二下·四川绵阳·期中)Forget about “military-style travel” during which people tend to visit as many places as possible in the least amount of time. A more relaxed and leisurely alternative, such as “Citywalk”, is becoming the norm among urban youngsters.
Unlike military-style travel, Citywalk is about wandering around a city on foot, feeling the atmosphere and finding unusual things that even a resident of the city might not have noticed before. It can be a special event where people start a journey led by tour guides or simply explore the streets.
Such walks generally avoid famous scenic spots and shopping centers, and take you to places where you can have real interactions with the local people, eat at small but authentic restaurants, and gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of the city.
Citywalkers have shared their carefully planned routes on social media platforms. Their posts usually include how long the walk is going to take, and interesting places and restaurants along the way. Some posts are more like a food tour.
Nan Xi, who recently moved from Beijing to Shanghai, said “I think Shanghai is a city perfect for Citywalk. There are big trees along the streets and shops selling different products, which is ideal for couples and friends to walk together and take photos.” After several Citywalk experiences, she signed up for a two-and-a-half-hour Citywalk priced at 88 yuan per person. A tour guide narrated the history of the buildings and streets along the way. “If it were me walking alone, I would simply find the streets artistic, but the tour that day helped me gain a better understanding of how Western culture blends in with the local culture in Shanghai,” she said. Another surprising benefit of the walk was that she has made friends with two of her fellow walkers.
Lin Yi, a manager for an online platform for self-guided tours, said Citywalk can help travelers learn about local culture and live as local people do, feeling the vibes of a city. People who participate in Citywalks usually have similar tastes, and can have in-depth discussions with each other, he said.

A.It is a perfect place to run shops.
B.There are great things to do at weekends.
C.Ideal couples and friends often gather there.
D.It provides great experiences in many ways.
3.What can be inferred from Nan Xi’s two-and-a-half-hour Citywalk?
A.She thought it well worth a try.
B.She went on the tour without company.
C.She wouldn’t have found the artistic streets by herself.
D.She knew how Western culture differed from the local culture in Shanghai.
4.What is the main idea of the article?

3.What will the author most probably talk about in the blank of paragraph 4?
A.Songlines were negatively influenced by strange tourists.
B.The Aborigines experienced a terrible natural disaster in 1788.

D.Foreigners’ invasion since 1788 resulted in the natives’ life destroyed.
4.What is the best title of the passage?
A.Guidelines. B.Songlines. C.Exploration. D.Tradition.

The trail is an 87-mile pathway from Cleveland to Bolivar in Northeast Ohio. The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) stretches out separately along the trail from Akron to Thornburg Station, a 31-mile stretch that passes through Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The trail hugs the outline of the original Ohio and Erie Canal. Today, the trail passes many landmarks, including bridges, museums, and villages.Danube Cycle Path
It is a path that follows the Danube River for about 745 miles, from Donaueschingen, Germany to Budapest, Hungary. The path is most popular in Austria featuring 245 scenic miles serviced by local and long-distance trains. Most cyclists choose to ride from west to cast with the flow of the river, to take advantage of the natural slope (斜坡) of bicycle traffic.Lehigh Gorge Rail Trail
The trail extends for 25 miles through woodlands next to the Lehigh Rive. A historic tourist railway called the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway follows the trail, allowing cyclists to create a one- way ride rather than backtracking. The rail trail is mostly flat and passes through Lehigh Gorge State Park. While the train operates most days, the bike service is only offered one weekend a month from May to November.Cinder Track
The Cinder Track is a 21-mile broken-stone pathway along the coast of Yorkshire, England: The towns of Scarborough and Whitby, where the trail begins and ends, both have train stations near the trail. The train journey is not a direct pathway between the two towns—in fact, the tracks of the original direct pathway were removed to create the trail.
