Venice This iconic city is sinking rapidly. The canals that make up the streets of Venice rise 2mm every year, making relics of history go under the surface of water and destroying architecture. Experts warn that without intervention (干预) , this city will disappear back into the water at an even faster rate, consumed by rising sea level from melting polar ice caps. Machu Picchu These iconic ruins have drawn adventurous tourists into the mountains of South America. The forces of natural erosion (侵蚀) have been accelerated by tourism and this landmark faces severe influence from increasing foot traffic. The Peruviar government recently suggested a cable car that would cut out the intense hike up to the ruins, making the site instantly accessible to millions, but the future of Machu Picchu remains uncertain. Glacier National Park Perhaps you’ve heard that the ice caps are melting. But nowhere is more apparent in the United States than in Glacier National Park. Estimates indicate that the glaciers that are part of the beauty of this national landmark will disappear entirely in the next two decades. The Great Barrier Reef Hidden from view beneath the waves, the Great Barrier Reef has been rapidly dying off. Nearly fifty percent of coral which once occupied a large area is gone, destroyed by pollution and disease. 1. What can we learn about Machu Picchu? A. It’s famous for cable cars. B. It will soon turn away all visitors. C. It bears a heavy burden of tourism. D. It’s well preserved by the locals. 2. Which place probably needs visitors to dive into the water to enjoy its beauty? A. It is a traditional Chinese art form that originated in southern China’s Cantonese culture, and involves music, singing, martial arts, acrobatics and acting. Today it is not only very popular in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong and Macao, but also performed all around the world. Cantonese opera was originally called Nanxi(Southern opera) in the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, and this beautiful art form has pleased audiences for hundreds of years. By absorbing the folk melodies and tunes of Guangdong, and mixing many different opera styles that were popular at the time, Cantonese opera developed during the 16th century. With the unique combination of these different influences, Nanxi was developed into Cantonese opera. Cantonese opera is a wonderful mix of storytelling, music and fighting. The performances are often based on well-known traditional stories or events from Chinese history. The colourful sets serve as the background for these performances and actors appear on stage with similarly colourful face paint. Fights are a common and important part of many shows with actors performing difficult and exciting martial arts movements. In the beginning, Cantonese opera costumes reflected the clothing style of the Ming Dynasty. Later, as Peking opera became increasingly popular, it was strongly influenced by Peking opera costumes. Costumes were made of cloth and later some accessories(配饰)were added. Different roles require different costumes. For example, an actor playing the Xiaosheng, a very gentle role, wears a costume with long sleeves; while the Xiaowu, an acting role, demands a costume with short sleeves so as to act easily. Many well-known operas are still performed today, such as The Purple Hairpin and Rejunenation of the Red Plum Flower, which originated in the Yuan Dynasty. Other Cantonese operas are adapted from western movies or novels. Generally, Cantonese opera performers have to master four skills: singing, acting movement, delivery of speeches, and martial gymnastic skills. Because of its long tradition and its importance in the development of Chinese arts and culture, Cantonese opera was included on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list in 2009. 4. Which of the following is NOT the factor in Cantonese opera’s development? A. Tunes of Guangdong. B. Different opera styles. C. A variety of dialects. D. Folk melodies. 5. What do we know about Cantonese opera costumes? A. They were originally a reflection of clothing style of Yuan Dynasty. B. They look more beautiful when they are made with more accessories. C. They were designed based on Peking opera costumes. D. Performers choose different costumes according to the roles they play. 6. What makes Cantonese opera an intangible cultural heritage? A. Its exciting movements and difficult performances. B. Its popularity and development. C. Its colorful sets and face paint. D. Its history and influence. 7. What’s the purpose of the author in writing the passage? A. To prove that Cantonese opera is the most popular opera. B. To inform the readers of the development of Cantonese opera. C. The AI-powered tool went from zero to a million users in just five days! Its ability to provide in-depth answers to user questions has even drawn the attention of distinguished technology companies. The intelligent robot understands what the user says or types and then responds in a way that makes sense. Its vast body of knowledge has been gathered from the internet and archived books. It is further trained by humans. This makes ChatGPT a useful tool for researching almost any topic. “We have a lot of information on the internet, but you normally have to Google it, then read it and then do something with it,” says Ricardo, chief science officer and co-founder of AI company Erudit. “Now you’ll have this resource that can process the whole internet and all of the information it contains for you to answer your question.” ChatGPT cannot think on its own. It depends on the information that it has been trained on. As a result, the AI tool works well for things that have accurate data available. However, when unsure, ChatGPT can get creative and flow out incorrect responses. OpenAI cautions users to check the information no matter how logical it sounds. Also, ChatGPT has only been trained with information till 2021. Hence, it cannot be relied upon for anything that happened after that. Experts believe ChatGPT has limitless potential to solve real-world problems. It can translate long texts into different languages, create content on almost any topic, and even summarize books. However, ChatGPT has received mixed reactions from educators. Some believe it could serve as a valuable tool to help build literacy skills in the classroom. Instead, I just opened the door and let the dog out by himself. I kept an eye on him to make sure he would come back inside. However, another neighborhood dog quickly ran past our house, and our dog sped after to catch him. I hurriedly went to grab my coat so I could follow my dog, and then I rushed outside. Unfortunately, I was already too late, and my dog was nowhere in sight. I walked a few blocks, but I was unable to find him. Depressed, I returned home. My mother was standing at the door waiting, and she asked me what had happened. “I know I was supposed to walk our dog,” I admitted, “but I thought he would be able to go outside and come back by himself. Now he’s gone and I can’t find him anywhere.” My mother was very angry with me; she said I should have been more responsible. She decided to help by making some signs. The signs read, “Lost: A big black dog. Please call us right away” and she printed our phone number on the bottom. “Okay, Darrell,” she said, as she handed over those signs, “now go post these on all the street posts.” My sister and I grabbed the signs and we posted them along our street as well as along the surrounding streets. The whole time, I was incredibly sad and worried about our dog. All I could think about was how cold it was and how cold our dog must be. My sister wanted to go home, so I told her I’d walk her home, but then keep looking for the dog myself. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右: 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I took my sister home and continued my search alone. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When I returned, my mother was waiting for me, smiling broadly. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: I took my sister home and continued my search alone. Carrying the signs made by my mother, I kept posting them. In the meantime, whenever there were people passing by, I would ask if they had met such a dog. I even knocked from door to door, asking if they had seen it. No luck. Nobody claimed to have spotted our dog. What if I had taken the dog out for a walk? Tears of regret welled up in my eyes. As the darkness fell, I decided to come back home to check if anybody had called. When I returned, my mother was waiting for me, smiling broadly. There, behind my mother, was our lovely dog looking up at me eagerly. Upon seeing me, it raced towards me. I couldn’t hold my tears. “It just came back by itself,” my mother said gently. Hugging the dog with relief, I apologized to my mother sincerely. “I am sure you have learned your lesson today,” my mother replied in a comforting voice. I played with my sister and the dog again. Despite the freezing weather outside, my heart warmed up. It was on the day that I learned the value of responsibility. 词汇激活 行为类 ①走过:walk by/pass by/go by ②挨家敲门:knock from door to door/tap from door to door ③回家:return/go back home 情绪类 ①渴望地:eagerly / urgently/enthusiastically ②真诚地:sincerely / honestly/genuinely/truly 【点睛】[高分句型1] Carrying the signs made by my mother, I kept posting them.(运用了现在分词作状语) [高分句型2] In the meantime, whenever there were people passing by, I would ask if they had met such a dog.(运用了whenever引导的状语从句和if引导的宾语从句) [高分句型3] It was on the day that I learned the value of responsibility.(运用了强调句型) 1–5 BBCAC 6–10 CAABA 11–15 CCBCA 16–20 ABBAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 莆田锦江中学2024-2025学年上学期高三英语期中考试 考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分 第一部分 听力理解(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. A To prove that Cantonese opera is the most popular opera. B. To inform the readers of the development of Cantonese opera. C. To share the author’s experience of seeing a well-known Cantonese opera. D. To make a comparison between Cantonese opera and Peking opera. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1–5 BBCAC 6–10 CAABA 11–15 CCBCA 16–20 ABBAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
