A few years ago, my wife and I took a trip to Chengdu. As soon as we arrived there, we rented a car and went to our 16 which was a few hours away. I had a map 17 I thought I’d be in great condition. About 20 minutes into the drive I found myself lost in the unmarked (没有标记的) streets and roads. Sadly, I had to ask Siri for 18 . Siri was a virtual (虚拟的) assistant in my phone. I typed the 19 of our hotel in my phone and soon Siri found out the best route to get there and we were on our way.
The only problem was that things 20 always go the way I thought. With the streets not being well 21 , I would miss a turn and head in the 22 direction. However, Siri never got 23 with me. Any time I missed a turn, Siri would simply 24 and say, “Recalculating (重新计算) route. Changing route.” And in a few seconds, Siri would have a new route 25 to get us to our destination (目的地). Finally, we made it to our hotel 26 .
Most people think you will succeed if you set clear goals and then manage to go straight towards it. The 27 is that there is no straight path 28 success. There isn’t even the 29 path. As a result, there are many paths to help you to get to your goals if you are just 30 to recalculate your route.

Every early morning in Southwest China’s Chongqing, there is a common scene at the city’s Subway Line 4: a group of farmers shouldering vegetables for sale are busy riding on the subway to the city center.
The second part of the subway line connects Shichuan town to the city center. It has provided local farmers near the town with a wider channel for selling their produce since its opening in 2022. ①Zibo city in Shandong has unexpectedly become famous since late February for its barbecue, and this continues as the government takes the chance to promote (推广) tourism and spending in this city.
②The latest promotion gives visitors chances to visit 10 places of interest in the city for free with their train tickets as long as their final stop is Zibo. The Jinan China Railway added a weekend special round-trip “barbecue tour” train between Jinan and Zibo. Passengers who get on the train are greeted by a notice reading “Welcome to the Special BBQ Train”. Many also took videos and put them online, drawing more visitors.
③Barbecue is popular in China, but Zibo’s barbecue is different: it’s made on a stove (炉子), and is served with pancakes and dressings (调料). The food is 70—80% cooked before it is brought to the table, where diners can finish cooking it on their own stoves. Diners are served with pancakes and other dressings at the table so they are able to put dressings and other ingredients in the pancake, in the same way Beijing Duck is eaten.
④The barbecue suddenly became famous after a group of college students shot videos of themselves enjoying a meal in Zibo and put them online in late February. Since then, many people, mostly young, have come to the city from all over the country to try the dish. On several streets, lines can be seen outside barbecue restaurants, which stretch (延伸) for more than 100 meters on the weekend.
⑤“Zibo barbecue is bringing more and more people to the city, and the government needs to think about how to promote the city as a whole, its culture and tourism, as well as its living and business environment.” said Sun Xiaorong, an expert of tourism marketing and promotion. The trend (趋势) will finally end if the government doesn’t take proper follow-up actions, he added.

Moniqua might be the world’s most widely travelled hen. For the past five years, she has sailed around the world with Guirec Soudee, a French sailor (船员) who spoke to Week Junior about their journey.
Soudee’s trip began from Yvince, his hometown in the northwest of France. After working as a sailor and a fisherman, he saved up for two years and bought an old boat. He set off alone around the world, aged 21, having spent only two hours practising how to sail it. Before crossing the Atlantic Ocean, Soudee stopped in the Canary Islands, off the coast of north-west Africa, and it was here that he met Monique. Soudee was given the chicken by some friends. “My plan was to have a hen to stay with and have fresh eggs,” he said. People had warned him that a hen wouldn’t lay eggs at sea because it would be too stressed. However, Monique laid an egg on her first day on the boat and then laid 25 eggs in 28 days. “Monique and I became very close. I talked to her every day and I knew she understood me,” Soudee said. “I taught her how to swim, how to surf. We shared everything together. ”
Soudee and Monique finally finished their 5, 000-mile journey around the world in December 2018. Monique was the perfect travel partner. “The only trouble was that I needed to clean Monique’s waste.” Soudee explained. “It was fine if it was outside, then you could wash it off with water. But inside the boat on your bed is not the same.” There were some scary moments on the trip. They met 13-metre waves near Antarctica (南极) and were stuck in the ice on Greenland for 130 days, 70 of which were in darkness. Soudee couldn’t fish because of the ice, and he said Monique’s eggs saved him.
Soudee has now written a book called The Hen Who Sailed Around the World: A True Story. … “We’ve got lots of plans for future adventures (日险), ” Soudee said. “I want to get a bigger boat and hopefully Monique will have some chicks and then we can take them too.”

The days passed and the river went down.

“Be careful, Huck.” Jim said, “The people in St. Petersburg know you and they think that you’re dead. Why don’t you put on the dress and pretend(假装) to be a girl?”
So I did as Jim said.
I took the canoe to the town. Very soon, I met a woman and she told me that someone would catch a runaway.
This wasn’t good news for Jim. I hurried back to the cave to tell him.
We set off down the river for the town of Cairo. In order to protect Jim, we preferred to travel at night rather than travel in the day. What’s more, we covered the raft with leaves and branches during the day.
We never got to Cairo. So we continued drifting down the river because the raft couldn’t sail back up the river against the current. We had a few adventures on the way, but nobody caught us. Our life on the raft was very pleasant and I was enjoying myself. During the day we made a camp under the trees and slept. As soon as it got dark, we set off again. After dinner, we swam in the moonlight or lay on our backs, looking at the stars.
Then one morning something happened and our lives changed.
I was paddling up a side river to look for berries for breakfast when two men suddenly ran out of the woods.
“Help! Some men want to kill us!” they shouted.
I felt sorry for them. I told them to get onto the raft and we paddled back to the camp. They were both wearing dirty old clothes, but they called themselves a Duke and the King. I didn’t believe them. I knew immediately that they were frauds(骗子), but I didn’t say anything.

The only problem was that things 20 always go the way I thought. With the streets not being well 21 , I would miss a turn and head in the 22 direction. However, Siri never got 23 with me.

【答案】例文
Travel Plan
This summer holiday, I decide to travel with my parents. We have a discussion about that. Now I’d like to share the travel plan.
Beijing is my first choice. It’s the capital of China with deep and rich culture. A great number of tourist attractions lie there, drawing millions of visitors’ attention from around the world. The Summer Palace used to be the place where the emperors spent their summers. How amazing! Much treasure is hidden in the Palace Museum. I’m so curious about anything about Beijing that we must put it the first place to go to.
We need to carry a map, a camera and some medicine. The map can guide us when getting lost. We will take pictures of some wonderful moments. When we get sick, medicine is a great help to us. Of course, we need to book tickets and hotels before we leave. I’ll consider that rather than getting my parents to do it.
I hope that my parents will have a great time and we can have good communication through this. After this trip, we can understand each other better.
