B Chen Yuxuan, a female student from Hangzhou, Zhejiang, scored 602 on this year’s college entrance exam but chose to attend Zhejiang Polytechnic University of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, a vocational (职业的) college. Her decision has sparked widespread discussion. In a society that places high value on academic degrees, many people don’t understand her choice. They view attending a vocational college with such a high score as a “waste”. However, I support her decision and believe her choice is not only rational but also reflects careful career planning. Employment is a reality every graduate must face. Chen chose a vocational school due to its high employment outcomes and partnerships with large companies like China Railway. In today’s tough job market, choosing a vocational college with 602 points isn’t shameful-on the contrary, it’s practical. Vocational students often excel in hands-on skills, making them more competitive in technical fields. Chen’s major, railway transportation equipment and control, offers great job prospects, indicating her choice was well thought-out. Chen’s decision challenges societal prejudices while also reflecting the rapid growth of vocational education. Take the above college as an example: its popular majors in the rail transportation, electrical and mechanical fields had a minimum admission score of 573. It’s remarkable that competitive programs, once only seen at regular universities, are now available at vocational schools as well. Of course, while Chen’s decision stands out, it’s far from a widespread trend. It’s worth noting that this year’s gaokao saw some surprising shifts with high-scoring humanities students also opting (选择) for vocational schools, which has led to more complicated public reactions. Life choices tied to gaokao applications are always complex and subject to change-what was a hot major a few years ago may now be less appealing. In times of change, it’s crucial to calmly assess (评估) your abilities and values to determine the best path forward. 4. What does the underlined word “rational” in paragraph 2 most likely mean? A. awkward B. sensible C. delicate D. critical 5. Why did Chen choose Zhejiang Polytechnic University of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering? A. For its location. B. For its job prospects. C. For its reputation. D. For its unique programs. 6. Which statement is true about vocational education in this article? A. It has gained greater social recognition. B. It remains undervalued by most employers. C. It is now equal in quality to regular higher education. D. It is the first choice for low-scoring students. 7. What does the author recommend when choosing an educational path? A. Following societal expectations. B. Prioritizing future job opportunities. C. Selecting majors with less competition. D. Considering personal strengths and interests. C In a few years, you might be a freshman at university. You may feel happy and excited to start this new chapter of your life. Meanwhile, you may be a bit sad and scared about leaving home without knowing what lies ahead. How can you experience such mixed feeling in one moment? A team of scientists at the Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, University of Southern California, conducted a study and found that mixed feelings are not really “mixed”, but rather a separate emotional state produced by our brain. In their experiment, 27 participants (参与者) were asked to lie down in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI, 核磁共振) machine and watch a short film. The film tells the story of a young girl chasing her dream of becoming an astronaut with the support of her father. She succeeds in the end, but her father ends up passing away. As the participants watched the bittersweet (苦乐参半的) story, their brain activities were recorded by the MRI machine. Later on, they watched the film again without the MRI machine monitoring them and marked down exactly when they felt positive, negative and mixed emotions. The team then compared these reports with the MRI results. They found that for mixed emotions to arise, parts of the cerebral cortex (大脑皮层), the outermost layer (最外层) of the brain, become active. These include the anterior cingulate cortex (前扣带皮层), which sits near the front of our brain and contributes to our understanding of conflicting and uncertain situations. In contrast, when processing entirely positive or negative emotions, it is mostly the regions deeper within the brain that are at work. The amygdala (杏仁体) is one of them. It plays a key role in connecting our emotions with other abilities like forming memories and learning. This suggests that mixed emotions are not simple mixtures of various emotions, but rather one single emotional experience arising from “a unique brain state” that holds steady over time, wrote Anthony Gianni Vaccaro, the lead scientist of the study, in an article on The Conversation. While some people find it exhausting to be caught up in mixed feelings, this special emotional state can be beneficial to our mental well-being. “The ability to experience negative emotion alongside positive emotion enables individuals to find something positive in stressful situations,” Shahram Heshmat, a researcher at the University of Illinois in the US, told Psychology Today. 8. What did the scientists in the text find about mixed feelings? A. They are a sign of emotional instability. B. They represent a distinct emotional state. C. They result from hormonal (荷尔蒙) changes. D. They have a negative impact on the brain. 9. What do we know about the experimental process? A. The participants read a bittersweet story. B The participants drew their emotional responses. C. Scientists controlled the participants’ emotions. D. The participants had their brain activities monitored. 10. When the anterior cingulate cortex becomes active, what emotions might a person be feeling? A. Both happiness and sadness. B. Extreme excitement. C. Disappointment. D. Nervousness. 11. How does Shahram Heshmat view the ability to experience mixed emotions? A. It leads to stronger relationships. B. It indicates mental weakness. C. It helps people develop positivity. D. It is exhausting and should be avoided D It seems you can ask artificial intelligence (AI) programs anything, and they’ll give you an answer back. So, can they tell jokes? This question was raised when UK comedian Karen Hobbs performed in late June. Instead of the usual jokes she created, Hobbs delivered jokes written by ChatGPT. The process made her nervous. Hobbs said that when she asked ChatGPT for a joke, what it provided was a man joking about being impatient with his shopping-obsessed (痴迷于购物的) girlfriend. Even when she asked to switch to the woman’s perspective, the joke still featured a shopping-obsessed girlfriend, just told from the first-person perspective. It’s no surprise that many jokes come from a male perspective in online materials, as males dominate the field of comedy. The BBC commented that AI storytelling can only reproduce information that already exists in some form, although it can produce some never-before-seen combinations of ideas. “One way that AI can tell jokes is to do what any 5-year-old does—repeat a successful joke they have heard or try to make an obvious variation of it,” said Les Carr, a professor of web science. Nonetheless, a good joke in real life can always adjust to the audience’s feedback, which often leads comedians to improvise (即兴创作). This, unfortunately, is beyond the current capabilities of AI. For instance, in improvise, there is no space for premeditation (预先策划); the comedian must rely only on their instinctive (直觉的) reaction to the audience. “A well-done stand-up bit can lead the audience through a funny story all the way to a hilarious punchline (令人捧腹的妙语),“ Michael Ryan, a student researching AI’s impact on comedy, explained to the BBC. ”The whole time the comedian knew exactly where he or she was going with the joke and brought the audience there.“ Research is already ongoing with the goal of giving AI a greater understanding of the world around it, which, however, makes the future of AI jokes still uncertain. 12. Why do many jokes come from a male perspective in online materials? A. AI prefers male perspectives. B. Women don’t like telling jokes. C. Men control the comedy industry. D. Men are more humorous than women. 13. What is AI unable to do with jokes? A. Repeat jokes. B. Adapt jokes. C. Improvise jokes. D. Combine jokes. 14. What is the author’s attitude toward the future of AI-created jokes? A. Hopeful. B. Doubtful. C. Uncaring. D. Disapproving. 15. What is a suitable title for the passage? A. Can jokes be made by AI? B. Can AI jokes be genuinely funny? C. Can AI change the world? D. Can audiences prefer jokes created by comedians? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Always the Outsider? One of the things I used to fear was being the new girl in the office — in the kitchen making coffee while the in-crowd chatted about the weekend. I worried that I wasn’t good enough or smart enough. ____16____ I’d struggle for words while trying to look cool. Back at school I was best friends with Kate and Cathy until we had to walk across the road in twos, and guess who was left out? I’ve always been the outsider from school days to office life. Or is that the story I have told myself? As in so many areas of life, the only thing you can control is your response. I remind myself of what Eleanor Roosevelt said: No one can make you feel lower without your agreement. ____17____ These are the lessons I have learned along the way : ·Starting anywhere new, you just have to find your people, the ones that get you. ____18____ It’s OK to take your time and figure out if you’re the right fit for each other. Have faith that you will find the right people for you. ·Very often it’s our belief systems that tell us we don’t fit in. We are replaying the stories from childhood and need to rewrite the script (剧本). ____19____ For example, when are you assuming that you’ll be on your own? What fears are you projecting onto yourself? ·Practice self-acceptance. Remind yourself that it’s OK to have a different way of operating in the world. ·____20____ Never forget that while you might be trying to fit in, you should never try to be anybody but yourself. A. Don’t over-think people or situation. B. Don’t charge into friendships, though. C. Start noticing your patterns of mentality. D. If I was asked a question, panic would set in. E. The only person making you feel like an outsider is you. F. The feeling of being an outsider would force me to shut up. G. We all feel a little lost and awkward sometimes — you’re not alone. 第二部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Although it happened over 10 years ago, I still remember the moment clearly. China is a fairly homogenous (同质化的) country—not an immigrant nation like Australia, where I’m from. So, for many Chinese people, seeing a foreigner is still a big ___29___. When I’m in a place in China with few foreigners, even I sometimes can’t help but point out to my friends that there’s another foreigner nearby. I just make sure to do it _____30_____! My Chinese friends also tell me that “laowai” is a more welcoming term than “waiguoren” because “lao” adds a touch of _____31_____ and friendship. But in some ways, I find it hard to _____32_____ the “wai” part, which means outsider. In Australia, we wouldn’t call people “outsiders” or “foreigners” like that. We’d either say “immigrant” or more specifically, _____33_____ the country they come from. That said, of all the countless times I’ve been called “laowai”, I’ve never felt it came from a place of rudeness or disrespect. And upon _____34_____, my frustration (沮丧) at being called a “laowa” shows me how much China means to me. These videos showed desert highways being submerged, and about 50 vehicles and around 30,000 other appliances were also reported to be underwater. Despite the many accounts sharing clips of the ___36___ (flood) desert, they have been inadequate in raising ___37___ (aware) about climate change. In our childhood, how often did we turn a deaf ear to our parents’ advice? Very often! Thus, we landed ourselves in a situation where we greatly regretted our act of not having listened to the advice of the wise. Such an unforgettable experience I had at the age of 7 gave me an invaluable lesson, after which I deeply understood why my gentle mother was repeating the boring suggestions and I would try to take her suggestions seriously. In my childhood, I was so crazy about nature that even playing among the colorful flowers in our garden could make my day. Our house was next to the woods which had always stirred up(激起) great curiosity in me in wanting to find out what was within. Every time I saw fascinating butterflies dancing from the woods, my curiosity grew. But my mother didn’t like me wandering off on my own and always ensured that I was within her sight. Even if she allowed me to explore the surrounding area on my own, it was only to be somewhere near the house. Being as curious as the cat, I always desired to explore the woods. It seemed as if my mother had understood my desire, so she had warmed me on lots of occasions never to enter the woods alone. “Mom, can I go out and play in the garden?” I asked. “Sure,” she would reply each time. “Kate, you can play in the garden but you must promise me one thing—only when I’m with you can you go into the woods. There are no cases of animal attacks on humans, but it’s still dangerous for a little kid like you. It’s too easy to get lost in the woods.” “Sure, you’ve said that many times!” I answered without patience at her repeated reminders. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 However, curiosity got the better of me one morning. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Kate?” Behind the trees covered by the rays of the setting sun came my mother’s voice ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 滨城高中联盟2024—2025学年度上学期高二期中考试 英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题:每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1.Where are the speakers? How fascinating! Among various colorful flowers danced butterflies. With excitement, I chased after the graceful creatures, running deeper into the woods.
