M:When I was young, I dreamed of being a famous painter. I was so crazy about painting that I painted anytime everywhere. My mother was often mad at me when she saw my paintings everywhere on the walls in our house. She always hoped that I could be a doctor. I guess she wanted me to follow my father's footsteps. My father, however, expected me to become a photographer. He even bought me a camera and all kinds of professional books and encouraged me to attend youth photo contests. However, as you can see, boys and girls, I finally become a teacher. Life is unpredictable. Sometimes you may not achieve the dreams you once had in your childhood. But it doesn't matter. And it doesn't mean you'll have to give up your dreams. You can always leave your dream in your heart and keep it as a lifetime hobby. As for me, I am still good at painting. It's a great way to relax in my spare time. I also love photography and travelling. All my friends like the photos I take for them.

In recent times, the marriage between technology and art has rekindled a new age of theatre, ushering (引入) in an era known as Digital Theatre. This concept has broken traditional boundaries, offering an immersive experience that overcame geographical and social limitations. The integration of digital elements within theatrical performances has not only enriched the narrative but also expanded the audience reach globally.
The foremost contributor to this revolutionary movement is the use of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality(VR) technologies. These technologies provide a gateway for the audience to step into the narrative, experiencing the storyline in a more personal and engaging way.For instance,a play based on ancient Rome could transport the audience to the Colosseum, with digital recreations of the ancient ruins, giving a first-hand experience of the historic setting.
Moreover, the digital platform has opened doors for more people.Streaming performances online has made theatre accessible to individuals who were previously unable to attend due to physical or financial constraints. This digital shift has also encouraged a new generation of playwrights and actors, who now have a global platform to show their talents.
On the negative side, some people argue that digital theatre dilutes the essence of traditional theatre, taking away the authenticity (真实性) and the human connection that live performances offer.Despite the criticism, many believe that digital theatre is not a replacement, but an evolution that allows for a combination of tradition and modernity.
The digital theatre movement also raises questions about the preservation of cultural integrity. As digital elements become more and more popular, there is a fear that the traditional theatre may be overshadowed or forgotten.Yet,others argue that this combination of technology and art is a celebration of cultural evolution, presenting an opportunity to introduce traditional theatre to a modern audience in a refreshing way.

People who give, live longer, studies have shown. Now,a new study by University of Michigan shows that why people volunteer—not whether they volunteer—is what really counts.
For the study,Konrath and colleagues analyzed data collected in 2008 and 2013 aiming at the same random samples of 3,376 people.Overall, they found that just 2.3 percent of those who once worked as volunteers had died, compared to 4.3 percent of non-volunteers.They further found that how much people volunteered mattered as well—only 1.8 percent of regular volunteers died, compared with 2.5 percent of occasional volunteers.
But what really made a difference were people's motives for volunteering. The researchers asked people to rate how important they found various reasons for volunteering, and they found that the more important people rated reasons such as feeling pity for people in need, the more likely they were to be alive. Those who rated motives related to personal benefit as more important were more likely to have died, and just as likely to die as those who didn't volunteer at all. These reasons included volunteering because they enjoyed the social contact,to escape their own problems,or to explore their own strengths.
Konrath says the current findings suggest it may be a poor idea to encourage people to volunteer because it's good for them.“Volunteering is increasingly being encouraged in schools and organizations. Some groups say that it's okay to want benefits for yourself, and encourage people to think of volunteering as an exchange for personal interests. Some groups emphasize the health benefits received through volunteering.” Konrath added,“Of course,it's reasonable for volunteers to expect benefits for themselves. But the potential health benefits of volunteering are significantly reduced if self-benefit becomes a person's main motive.”

Even if you are not into artificial intelligence,it is time to pay attention to ChatGPT.ChatGPT is an AI chatbot system that OpenAI released to show off and test what a very large, powerful AI system can complete.
ChatGPT is built on top of the OpenAI GPT-3 family of large language models. It lets you type natural-language clues and then offers conversational responses. It remembers the thread of your dialogue, using previous questions and answers to form its next responses. It finds relevant information in its oceans of training data, and transforms that into texts.
You can ask it countless questions and often will get useful answers. For instance, you can ask it encyclopedic (百科知识的) questions like “Explain Newton's laws of motion.” You can tell it “Write me a poem.” and when it does, say “Now make it more exciting.” You can ask it to write a computer program that will show you all the different ways you can arrange the letters of a word.
A few days after its launch, more than 1 million people were trying out ChatGPT.UBS analyst Lloyd Walmsley estimated in February 2023 that ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly users in January, completing in 2 months what took TikTok about 9 months and Instagram two and a half years.
Many people fear that ChatGPT might help students cheat better. But as many other technology developments,it is not a simple black-and-white situation.Decades ago, students could copy encyclopedia entries and use computers and more recently, they have been able to use search engines and Wikipedia.ChatGPT offers new abilities for everything from helping with research to doing your homework for you.
Dustin York,an associate professor at Maryville University, hopes educators will learn to use ChatGPT as a tool and realize it can help students think critically.“Educators thought that Google,Wikipedia, and the Internet itself would ruin education, but they did not,” York said.“What worries me most are educators who may actively try to discourage the recognition of AI like ChatGPT.It is a tool, not a villain (反派).”

Make conscious decisions.

40
We often see fears as our greatest enemy, yet they provide us with an enormous opportunity for self-growth.What if we were to see them as friends who want to help us become a better person? 第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eartha lost her balance and fell heavily onto the floor.“I'll never be as flexible as you are,Grandma,” she sighed softly.
Eartha's Grandma had been practising yoga for more than 50 years, who could twist, bend and curl her body with ease. She could even stand on her hands and pull her body into different poses.
“Eartha, your name means ‘patience’.You need patience for yoga,” said her Grandma.
Like many schools in the country,Eartha's school held an annual yoga competition.Eartha wanted to make her Grandma proud. But she could hardly stand on one leg.
Grandma returned to the kitchen.Eartha kept practising hard. She stood straight, her arms at her sides. She moved her hands and knees, arching her back. All of these poses were easy, while the competition was certain to be harder. So she tried more challenging poses, lying on her stomach and pushing up on her hands. Her arms soon got tired and she collapsed to the floor.Eartha wandered into the kitchen.
“Finished already?” asked Grandma.
“It's hard,” Eartha said.“How did you get to be so strong?”
Grandma smiled,“Patience.”
The next morning,Eartha felt ached and sore all over the body. Her legs hurt so badly from the poses she practiced that she even wanted to quit. However, her Grandma's words echoed in her mind, and she held the pose for a longer time.
Each day Eartha would practice a new pose, before going over the poses she had practiced the previous few days. With the date of the competition approaching, she started to feel stronger and more flexible. Her arms and legs stopped trembling.
The day of the yoga competition arrived as expected. In the gym,Eartha lay on her back with her knees bent and placed her hands on the floor behind her.Everything went smoothly.Just then,so eager was she to win Grandma's pride that her poses displayed a mix of impatience, and rigidness.Eartha fell on the mat, which cost her edge over other competitors.A bell rang, ending the first half of the competition.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Thinking she ruined all because of impatience,Eartha looked at the audience for Grandma.
Calm and confident,Eartha stepped on the stage for the second half of the competition.
[参考范文]
Thinking she ruined all because of impatience,Eartha looked at the audience for Grandma.Grandma settled at the front seat, kindly smiling and waving to her.Head hanging,Eartha went to Grandma with heavy footsteps.“I'm proud of you!” Grandma whispered softly.Astonished and unexpected,Eartha stared at Grandma with a bit doubted expression.Although relieved of frustration temporarily, she was increasingly concerned about the next half.Sensing her worries,Grandma asked if she still remembered the meaning of her name.Eartha nodded, reflecting on her hard practices.
Calm and confident,Eartha stepped on the stage for the second half of the competition.Completely relaxed,Eartha devoted herself to poses, letting go of anything that might distract her.So full of patience and balance was every pose that flexibility was perfectly demonstrated, which made her stand out among other competitors. When she finished, the whole gym burst into thunderous applause.Smiling back,Eartha ultimately understood the significance of patience and calmness.
