A red camel means “stop” and a green camel means “go”. The special traffic lights, first designed to reduce traffic congestion in the desert, got much media attention in 2023 and have become a popular tourist attraction. Wang Youxia, a manager of the company responsible for the scenic spot􀆳s operations, said more than 3.7 milion tourists visited the spot in 2023, with 42 percent choosing camel rides. The quick increase in tourist arrivals has resulted in great need for local camel herders(牧 人). Zhao Wenlong is an experienced camel breeder(饲养员) from the Yueya Spring Vilage, who owns 21 camels. The rapid development of tourism has brought hope to the vilagers. And they begin to do the camel walking business at the scenic spot. A camel trek(长途跋涉) costs 100 yuan, with the camel owner earning 70 yuan. In the peak season in summer, the scenic area is home to about 2,000 camels dedicated to tourism, with each camel undertaking three treks a day. “Our vilage was so poor that there was hardly any girl wiling to marry young men from here,” Zhao recaled. “But now we are rich because of the camel walking business. The safety of camels makes sure of the safety of tourists.” Among Zhao􀆳s camels, there are two special camels, one white and one with a mixed coat. His family earns 500,000 yuan a year from camel rides, but he spends more than 100,000 yuan a year caring for the animals. Inthe summer months, he gives his camels nutritious feed and fresh fruit to help them cool down. He also takes them to the vet for annual checkups in winter. “They are my family members,” Zhao said. 1. Where is the scenic spot? A. In Inner Mongolia.B. In Qinghai. C. In Gansu. D. In Sichuan. 2. We may worry that the request wil be rejected or that it wil be a burden to the helper. But new research shows that people are more wiling to help out than we think. And afterward, they often feel better about having helped than we expect. Scientists conducted a series of experi- ments.Altogether, more than 2,100 people were involved in the research. In one experi- ment, participants had to ask strangers to take photos for them at a public botanical garden. In another, participants answered questions about times when they had either asked for or given help. These past experiences included showing someone how to accomplish a task, writing a letter of recommendation, and supporting a friend who was going through a tough time. Researchers had the “askers” guess how the “helpers” might feel about the requests. Then they asked the helpers how they actualy felt. In each experiment, people who asked for help underestimated (低 估 ) the helpers􀆳 wilingness to assist and how good they would feel afterward. For example, “askers” expected strangers to feel kind of bad by a request for taking a photo. However, only four out of 100 people refused to take the photo, and those who did take one said they felt good about doing this for a stranger. Past research has shown that doing kind acts is people􀆳s physical and mental health. Aiding others can create what is known as the “helper􀆳s high”, reducing stress and providing a sense of meaning and connection. “We feel good about making a positive difference in other people􀆳s lives,” said Xuan Zhao, the writer of the new study. Despite these benefits, A the researchers said that “askers􀆳” fears functioned as “barriers B ”, stopping them from making a request. They noted that the type of request and cultural differences could affect the way people react. The study􀆳s results suggest, however, C . Experts said that if asking for help makes you feel uncomfortable, D it can be useful to practise. They said, “The research should provide some hope because you might be realy underestimating how wiling others are to help.” (素材来源: The Week Junior) 按要求完成下列各题。(每小题答案不超过 四个词) 1.
