B.完成图表 根据短文内容, 补全图表中所缺信息。 One of the first words I learned in Chinese was“thank you”, or“xiexie”. I wanted the people in my new home to think I was polite. However, I soon learned that it wasn't that simple. Early on, I noticed that people seemed confused(困惑的 ) by me always saying“xiexie”, as if it wasn't necessary or normal. They reacted(反应) in the same way to my use of“qing(‘please’ in English)” and the way I made my requests sound as soft as possible. I didn't understand until I realized that I was keeping the person I was talking to away from myself this way. Later, my Chinese friends told me that using“qing” and“xiexie” often actually had the opposite effect ( 效果) of politeness. It served to build a kind of unseen wall, and the wall would make others feel they couldn't get close to me. But this makes things difficult for those with British manners(礼仪), because saying“please” and“thank you” is something we learn from a very young age. Once a British expert on culture gave some examples to show foreigners’ confusion in Chinese manners:“A Chinese will pour tea or beer for everyone else before even considering pouring his own. But then another will shout‘Gei wo yan!’(‘Give me salt!’ in English), without saying‘thank you’ or‘please’.” They simply can’ t understand why these Chinese are so polite in one situation but completely different in another. As I spend more time in China, I get a better understanding of Chinese manners. They choose their words according to the relationship with the person they speak to. If they are very close to each other, there is no need for them to speak very formally or politely. They show their politeness when communicating with strangers or showing respect(尊敬) to the elders. So you can even guess the speakers’ relationship from their use of polite words. I now understand why people don't say“qing” or“xiexie” in China as often as we do in the UK and I'm trying to change myself. “My” earlier thought: Always using polite expressions could show my politeness. “My” experience: “My” frequent use of such expressions wasn't actually_6_ in China. “My” lesson: Too much use of polite expressions may keep you from building _7_ with Chinese people. Getting Used to Chinese Manners British people's confusion in Chinese manners: · Sometimes they show good manners: serving others first with tea or beer. · Sometimes they are very _8_ in expressing their requests. * Shouting“Gei wo yan!” to ask for salt. “My” discovery: The possible explanation for British people's confusion: They don't know that Chinese people's use of polite expressions _9_ the speakers' relationships. Inference: “I” will _10_ my use of“qing” and“xiexie”. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
