Many kids help parents to do housework in the house. They may take out the rubbish, walk
the dog or clean
the floor. In return, some kids get money or other rewards from their parents, such as 20 minutes
to play computer games
But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing housework, One of them
is Jane Smith, a parenting educator and family coach. She believes kids may think that they
needn't do any housework if they can't get anything in return. For example, kids won't clean the
floor if they see it is dirty. But they will do it if their parents reward them for it
“Every house is teamwork," Jane said. "A home is a living place for everyone in the family
It's important for kids to see that we all have the responsibility(责任)to keep our home clean.'
However, other people have different ideas. They believe that money or other rewards can
make kids willing to do more housework. It also teaches them real world lessons. They can learn
about how we need to work to make money.
Now, there are also apps that encourage kids to do housework. The apps give kids points and
digital gifts that can be used either online or in life. With the app Chore Monster, children get
digital points after doing housework. Kids can exchange their points for real rewards, such as
time to play video games or a trip to the shop. “Our goal is to encourage kids to do housework
so they can get rewards." says Joe Black of Chore Monster. Kids need positive(积极的) power
to make them do housework
Anyway, action is above all with rewards or not
54. The word "rewards" in Paragraph 1 means
C.表扬
B.奖赏
A.钱

B. parents should do housework themselves at home
C. kids should do housework just from their responsibility
D. kids should get something in return from doing housework
56. The writer probably agrees that
A. parents should not give rewards for doing housework
B. it is parents' responsibility to pay for doing housework
C. all parents have to make their children use the app Chore Monster
D. the most important thing is that children do something for the family

More than 60 years after scientists had big findings about DNA. 20 students at a US
Young Women's Leadership College learnt about some of the knowledge that makes
them know who they are
Last autumn, while studying life science, the girls sent samplesof their DNAs to a
DNA testing company. The results helped the students connect(联系) the real-world with topics
they study the whole term.
“Students could look at their results and use what they learned in science. It's about bringing
learning to life," said Laura Pena, the STEM program teacher
For most of the girls, the DNA test was about their ancestry( 血统). Sitting with mom,
Amariah Caudle, 15. looked at the results with her mouth wide open. She was surprised that her
European ancestry was 13 percent. Her mother, Janell Caudle, was surprised it was that high.
"I didn't think a trace(痕迹)would show up in her,"she said."After many generations(代)
this is still showing up in our ancestry. I was surprised by the science of it."
Diahan Southard, Living DNA community manager, believes the program gives students an
understanding of DNA at an important moment, when they are still young enough to accept
lessons and change their values.
Elianed Guzman, 14, said she knew little about her family except that they were from
5
Mexico. She said in English how surprised she was to learn that she shared DNA with people in
China, Japan and Korea.
As the girls sat in small groups to check their results, with feelings from confusion tc
surprise, they began to understand what it all means.

A. People had the chance to test their DNA.
B. The European trace showed up in Amariah's DNA.

58. What does Diahan Southard think of the program?
A. It helps students understand their DNAs
B. It has a great power to bring people together
C. It will change their students'DNAs.
D. It should be introduced to more people around the country.
59. What did the girl students learn from the program?
A. People need to accept who they are
B. We should learn more about family history
C. The results from the program are hard to believe.
D. People around the world are connected with each other
60. The best title for the passage is
A. Our amazing past
B. Our amazing present
C. Our amazing future
D. Our past, present and future

Two weeks after getting out of the caves, the judge told Tom, "Nobody will get lost in those
caves again. I've closed the caves with big metal doors and three locks."
Tom turned as white as a piece of paper. "Oh, Judge, Indian Joe is in the caves!"As a result
Indian Joe lay dead on the floor. Tom finally felt safe.
The next day Tom and Huck talked about the money they had seen. Huck said someone else
must have taken it from Indian Joe's room in the tavern.
"Huck, I bet the money's in the caves! Will you go there with me and get it out?"
"I will if we get in and don't get lost."
"That's no problem. Just through the entrance that only I know about, we can get into the
caves."
So boys started their treasure hunt adventure. They went down the river, entered the secret
hole and crawled to the far end of the tunnel. They tied their string to a rock and moved on. They
soon got to the place where Tom saw Indian Joe that night. The boys went carefully over to the
place. They found a small bed of blankets by a large rock but there was no money-box
"Look, Huck. There're footprints and some candle wax on this side of the rock, but not on
the other sides. I'm sure the money is under the rock. I'm going to dig.'
Tom took out his knife, started digging and hit wood. He lifted the piece of wood and found
a large hole. So they climbed inside it and found the treasure box, about $12,ooo, which were
shared by them both
Now Widow Douglas gave Huck a home though Huck wasn't used to the comfortable but
