Anger is a complicated emotion. Relying on practical wisdom in Aristotle’s case-by-case approach makes a lot of sense for ____11____ interpersonal conflicts. But what about when there’s no one to blame for your anger? Imagine a tornado completely destroys your house while your neighbor’s home is untouched. No amount of anger can undo the disaster, and there isn’t really a suitable ____12____ for your frustration.
Yet for the ancient Stoics, the tornado and the noisy neighbor are basically identical. The Stoics believed life is like an uncontrollable cart we’re all ____13____ to, and we can either learn to go with the ____14____ or hurt ourselves fighting its momentum. In their logic, we all live at the whims of fate, and our actions can never actually change things — whether it’s a natural disaster or how others act towards us. So Stoics believe anger is always wrong, since it causes pain and is ____15____ fruitless. The 8th century Indian Buddhist philosopher Santideva also questioned our free will and the value of anger, arguing that because people often lack rational control over their emotions, we should endeavor not to let their anger and cruelty spread to us.
But even if it’s hard for us to control our anger, there might be something we can learn from it. Philosopher PF Strawson’s theory of reactive attitudes suggests that experiencing anger is a natural part of human psychology that helps us communicate blame and hold each other ____16____. In this model, anger can be an important part of letting us know when something immoral is happening, so removing it would impair our social lives and moral communities. But finding the right response to those psychological alarm bells can be tricky. For instance, if you were supervising cruel, disrespectful young children, it might be natural to feel anger, but it would be wrong to treat their moral mistakes like those of fully ____17____ adults.
So when should you act on anger? And can it ever help change things for the better? Let’s imagine your community is experiencing serious health issues because a nearby factory is illegally polluting the water supply. A long tradition in political philosophy argues that the righteous anger often invoked by witnessing this kind of injustice can be invaluable for ____18____ change and motivating community action. In unjust situations like this, it could be a moral mistake to suppress your anger, instead of ____19____ it into positive action.
But other philosophers argue that anger has an inherent negative element that limits its transformative power. They cautioned that we should carefully adjust our emotional responses to ensure that we see others not as enemies but as community members with whom we must learn to ____20____, regardless of our ever-changing emotions.

HTPs are packaged to appeal to young people who perceive them as safer than smoking. To prevent young people from experimenting with HTPs and ___36___ their health, Taiwan Province strictly controls every kind of tobacco product by adding a health risk ___37___ review mechanism. Only products that pass the review process are allowed to be manufactured, imported and sold to consumers.
The innumerable downsides to smoking should give smokers ___38___ and encourage them to quit. Quitting tobacco improves your health and reduces your risk of various diseases, including cancer, heart disease, and breathing problems. Quitting smoking can also improve your ___39___. Tobacco use can cause wrinkles and yellow teeth. Quitting can lead to healthier skin, whiter teeth and fresher breath. Smoking can also dull your senses of taste and smell. Exercise Can Help Prevent Depression, Study Finds
How often do you exercise? A new ___31___ from researchers at the University of Cambridge shows that those who exercise are less likely to develop depression, even if they exercise less than the recommended amount.
The Department of Health and Human Services recommends that adults engage in 2.5 to 5 hours of moderate activity per week or one hour and 15 minutes to 2.5 hours of ___32___ aerobic (有氧的) exercise per week or some combination of the two.
Adults who took a walk for what ___33___ to 2.5 hours per week were less likely to develop depression than those who didn’t exercise at all, the study found. But even those who exercised less felt better than those who didn’t exercise at all, according to researchers. “In this study, a relatively small amount of physical activity were associated with a(n) ___34___ decrease in risks of depression,” the study says. The researchers analyzed 15 studies with nearly 200,000 participants. Those who did about half the recommended amount of physical activity per week had an 18% lower risk of depression ___35___ with adults who did not exercise, the study says. Participants who exercised the recommended amount had a 25% lower risk of depression than those who did not. Exercising more than the recommended amount hardly ____36____ depression risk, according to researchers.
Many ___37___ of exercise can lead to improved mental health. For example, working out can increase circulation (血液循环) to the brain and ___38___ the central nervous system, leading to what many refer to as a “runners high,” the study says. More exercise can also lead to improved physical health and a better body ___39___, which can cause a person to be more social, researchers say.
Nearly 5% of adults in the U.S. report regular feelings of depression, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Among the study participants, researchers estimate that 1 in every 9 cases of depression might have been prevented had everyone met recommended exercise ____40____, the study says.

Chinese animations (动画) are booming
The “Black Cat Delective”, released 40 years ago, was a childhood favorite for many Chinese. Since then, Chinese cartoons have come a long way. While “Black Cat Detective” was simply drawn, current cartoons feature ____11____ advances and fascinating plots. One example is “Boonie Bears: Time Twist”, a family-friendly adventure released in February, with smooth animation reminding us of Pixar, a ____12____ animation studio now owned by Disney.
These recent ____13____ in quality have enabled Chinese cartoons to succeed at the domestic box office. “Ne Zha: Birth of the Demon Child” was the most well-received film in China in 2019,____14____ beating out “Avengers: Endgame ”, a superhero movie by Marvel Studios.
In the 1960s, China’s animation industry saw a big downturn as American and Japanese films ____15____ into the Chinese market, dominating both domestic television and cinema screens. Baby Steps Toward Autonomy…
Companies, like Google and Tesla, didn't even exist when Toyota introduced the Prius in1997. However, they have become major ___31___ in the auto industry recently. Both of them aim to introduce fully autonomous cars ---that is, cars that drive themselves---within the next several years.
Self-driving cars are expected to be much safer than human-driven ones. But even if the first robot cars ___32___ the roads in the next few years, most of us probably won't give up driving entirely for at least another 15 or 20 years. In the meantime, ___33___ cars will gradually take over certain aspects of driving.
Companies have been adding ___34___ features to cars since the 1990s---things like adaptive cruise control, which uses sensors to adjust a car's speed based on the traffic in front of it, and automated parallel parking. Some cars automatically stop—or at least slow down—if a driver doesn't step on the brake in time to avoid a crash. In a certain model developed in 2017, the driver will be able to change ___35___ simply by hitting the turn signal for two seconds (the car will take care of the rest). Within a few years, cars may be able to determine when an accident is likely and make ___36___to the cabin---moving seats, closing windows , retracting the steering wheel.
Even better than preparing for a crash, of course, is ___37___one. Some vehicles ___38___ warnings when they detect, through cameras and sensors, that a driver is getting sleepy. Future cars might take over for ___39___ drivers---or automatically pull to the side of the road and shut down. Biometrics(生物识别技术)could aid this process. If a car has sensors that can measure a driver's breath and heart rate, it could ___40___ into self-driving mode when a driver has a heart attack.

Major companies are already in pursuit of commercial applications of the new biology. They dream of placing enzymes(酶)in the automobile to monitor ____31____ and send data on pollution to a microprocessor that will then adjust the engine. They speak of what The New York Times calls “Metal-hungry microbes(微生物)that might be used to ____32____ valuable trace metals from ocean water.” They have already demanded and won the right to patent new life forms. Nervous ____33____, including many scientists, worry that there is corporate, national, international, and inter-scientific competition in the entire biotechnological field. They create images not of oil spills, but of “microbe spills” that could spread disease and destroy entire populations. The creation and ____34____ release of extremely poisonous microbes, however, is only one cause for alarm. Completely rational and ____35____ scientists are talking about possibilities that stagger(动摇)the imagination.
Should we breed people with cow-like stomachs so they can digest grass and hay, thereby ____36____ the food problem by modifying us to eat lower down on the food chain? Should we biologically alter workers to fit the job requirement, for example, creating pilots with faster reaction time or assembly-line workers ____37____ to do our monotonous work for us? Should we use genetic forecasting to pre-eliminate “unfit” babies? Should we grow reserve organs for ourselves, each of us having, as it were, a “savings bank” full of ____38____ kidneys, livers or hands?
Wild as these notions may sound, everyone has its ____39____ (and opposers) in the scientific community as well as its striking commercial application. As two critics of genetic engineering, Jeremy Rifkin and Ted Howard, state in their book Who Should Play God? “Broad scale genetic engineering will probably be introduced to America much the same way as assembly lines, automobiles, vaccines, computers and all the other technologies. As each new genetic advance becomes ____40____ practical, a new consumer need will be exploited and a market for the new technology will be created.”

Communication-a Thing of the Past?
We all think we communicate all the time, and that's true. There's also non-verbal communication you could add into the mix--everything we're saying when we're not saying anything. But there’s a (n) (31 ) _______between saying things to people, or liking and sharing a post on social media, and communication. I'm quite well connected-there's Twitter Facebook,Instagram, Snapchat, email, iEverything (!), but sometimes communication starts to feel like a chore. Check this blog post, read that article someone shared, (32) __________back to someone else, and answer their question.. . Sometimes I feel like a cross between Siri and a mad juggler. Nothing seems to go in and I'm always mixing people up--asking someone how their band is going when they can’t play an instrument or how the job search is going when someone’s just written to say how depressed they are that they can't find a job.
So it was quite a ( n ) (33 )__________ to spend New Year in the Highlands in Scotland with no phone signal, no internet and no "Communication”at all, apart from with the people I was with. Suddenly all the pressure to communicate disappeared. All of our conversations became slower, more inverted and far more interesting. We were a group of 12,a ( n)(34)__________of couples and friends, only one of whom I was at university with, so I was meeting a bunch of new people for the first time. Our conversations veered towards the banal and the humdrum in that we often discussed our plans for the day and what we were going to cook in the evening, but often they went a lot farther and a lot deeper. Tucked up on the leather sofas, (35 )__________dinner, we dissected Brexit and one person even changed their (36 )__________entirely! We shared ideas and theories , plots of books and plays and city trips we'd been on, described family troubles and gave advice, listened to work scenarios and offered pointers, and we had to talk and sketch and use words more than ever before , because you couldn't say, "It's a great film, you should google it later. " Some of us even had sore throats from talking so much! In such a short ( 37 )__________of time, due to the proximity of sharing interconnected cottages and verbal communication, I felt much closer to the new people I'd met and been speaking with than some other people I communicate with in my normal life.
I don't think our common, current methods of communication come close to being in a small house with lots of people and having to communicate (38 )__________. The brevity of Twitter, the showiness of Facebook, all these aspects contribute to a shallow form of communication that doesn't challenge you to ( 39 )__________your feelings and motives enough. "Liking” something is an instant response but what does it really say about your opinion of something? It's a (n) (40)__________response to millions of other people, whereas you and your thoughts are unique. If we're not careful , perhaps we might forget how to communicate on a deeper level.

In my memory , the valley was quiet and calm, only to see the wheat all over the mountains waving together in rhythm when the wind blew through, like a ballet troupe. The sun rose every morning as usual, sweeping across the valley and ultimately falling behind the peaks. The snow that falls in winter always melts in spring, bringing new hope to this nature where everything was pleasant and beautiful.
Led by fate , I have became an environmentalist and had the honor of being invited to address students about my green lifestyle for a long time. The students were surprised at my lifestyle and maybe they thought my lifestyle was no longer suitable for modern life.Fortunately , they were still listened to whole lecture , saluting or ( 32 )_________ me-----to some extent the applause implied their encouragement to me. s I began to interact with them under the stage, I was (33 )__________by kids' lack of knowledge of nature so that they had little knowledge of protecting environment.

It is time to think about who ( 40 )_________ us to destroy nature.

do/does形式:
限定词 (the, this, that, a, my, their之类) 后必有名词。
例.
A. hands B. qualities C. down D. curiosity E. pretty F. looks
G. ashamed H. applied I. ruined J. information K. prospects
Finally, ___8___ pushed me to ask the interviewers after we became colleagues. The answer was that I appeared confident but humble, responsible and communicative. They evaluated people not just on their academic certificates, but on the base of their ___9___ and abilities. I happened to be the right person.
【Keys】 DB。
A. understand B. environmentally C. gamble D. involve E. necessary F. potential
G. shortcuts H. specific I. structurally J. surprises K. inspect
A home inspection will ___1___ hiring a company to send a home inspector out to go through your potential home with you and thoroughly inspect everything to make sure there are no major problems that might not be obvious to the average home owner.
【Keys】D。
A. extremely B. aggressive C. curious D. threat E. communicates F. situation
G. typically H. different I. contact J. signals K. gaze
If you hold eye contact for more than 3 seconds, what are you telling another person? Much depends on the person and the situation. For instance, a man and a woman communicate interest in this manner. They typically ___3___ at each other for about 3 seconds at a time, then drop their eyes down for 3 seconds, before letting their eyes meet again. But if one man gives another man a 3-second-plus stare, he ___4___, "I know you", "I am interested in you," or "You look peculiar and I am curious about you." This type of stare often produces hostile feelings.
【Keys】KJ。
A. volunteer B. targeted C. emerged D. regularly E. representing
F. concern G. normally H. individual I. common J. nursing K. poverty
Young Americans play a vital role as volunteers in the programs of Youth Service American (YSA). Founded in 1986, this organization works to build healthy communities and foster citizens through volunteerism, ___5___ more than 15 million young Americans. Each year, YSA observe National Youth Service Day, when young people kick off a year long commitment to volunteer serve and meet new friends engaged in a common cause.
【Keys】E。
A. unmanned B. possible C. usually D. circles E. dropping F. blowing
G. continent H. common I. specifically J. aimed K. covers
Last month, American scientists began work on a project ___6___ at improving the ability to predict tornadoes. The project is said to be the largest tornado study in history. It is called VORTEX2.
【Keys】 J。
A. appliance B. separate C. professional D. potentially E. techniques
F. apply G. absolutely H. unplug I. contact J. external K. unconscious
It is necessary to maintain the victim’s body heat, so make sure you cover him or her with a blanket before you do anything else. If the victim is not breathing, apply mouth-to-mouth way. Keep the victim’s head low until ___10___ help arrives.
【Keys】 C。
副词的确定:句子完整,副词可修饰动词、形容词、副词、整个句子、介词短语、不定式、过去分词等;
例.
A. complexity B. images C. elementary D. signals E. willingly
F. independently G. mental H. experiment I. leaps J. monster K. practical
During the early stages of childhood, from infancy to about five, the child learns simple skills including using the toilet, bathing and dressing himself ___7___.
【Keys】F
A. fast B. stuntmen C. training D. catching E. fall
F. seriously G. really H. profession I. fight J. living K. perform
But although their work depends on trick of this sort, it also requires a high degree of skill and __1__. Often a stuntman' s success depends on careful timing. For example, when he is "blown up" in a battle scene, he has to jump out of the way of the explosion just at the right moment. Naturally stuntmen are well paid for their work, but they lead dangerous lives. They often get ___2___ injured, and sometimes killed. A Norwegian stuntman, for example, skied over the edge of a cliff a thousand feet high. His parachute (降落伞) failed to open, and he was killed.
【Keys】 CF。
A. economy B. dated C. relationship D. event E. achievement
F. applied G. global H. regularly I. financial J. promote K. located
Exhibitions are not a recent invention. They dated back to the times when large-scale markets were regularly held in cities which attracted visitors and brought prosperity because they were ___3___ at major trade route intersections.
【Keys】K。
A. competitors B. philosophy C. properly D. maximize E. enthusiastic F. candidate
G. mirrors H. background I. extremely J. conducted K. cultural

Castles also served as symbols of power. Built on prominent sites (39)__________ the surrounding areas, castles constantly loomed in the background of many peasants' lives and served as a daily (40)_____reminder_____ of the lord's strength.(2018年春季高考)
A. repetitive B. continually C. alerts D. pattern E. locate F. mental
G. challenge H. network I. evolving J. reversely K. literacy
For example, Ashoka fellow Andrés Gallardo is a Mexican who lived in a high crime neighborhood. He created an app, called Haus, that allows people to ___34___ with their neighbors. The app has a panic button that __alerts__ everybody in the neighborhood when a crime is happening. It allows neighbors to organize, chat, share crime statistics and work together.
These demands must also be balanced with the need to create interiors (内饰) that in some way enhance, establish or promote a company’s image and will enable employees to 49 at their best.
A. access B.alternatives C.designed D. confirmed E. conflicting

1).He believes design must take into the sensory side of our nature—sight, smell, touch and taste. (account)(2016

With the massive invasion of industrialization and urbanization, people were forced to move away from nature.
