Making music to share with others
One of my favorite things about playing music is recording it so that I can share it with others. I’ve recorded hundreds of songs over the years, both with my bandmates and on my own. But one thing I’ve found is that the recording process never goes quite the way you expect.
Last week, I recorded five songs with my band Unit. We’re kind of a weird noisy rock band. We went into the studio without much of a plan. We decided we would just set up a few microphones, play our songs and see how things turned out.
The recording process was very DIY. We recorded everything in a single room. This means that our microphones picked up all of the instruments at once, so the resulting sound was a bit messy. We even had to use a coat rack and a music stand to hold our microphones. But actually, recording this way can be pretty fun. I’ve done plenty of professional recordings before, but sometimes it’s fun to record in a more unusual way.
After we finished, we went home and listened to what we’d recorded. The songs sounded a lot better than we expected! We still have some more work to do before we can release our songs. But I think people will enjoy the unique way in which we recorded them.

C.Writing music. D.Singing music.
27.The name of the writer’s band is ________.

C.It was surprisingly enjoyable. D.It was a waste of time.
29.According to the passage, what did the band use to hold their microphones during recording?
A.Professional microphone stands. B.Coat rack and music stand.
C.DIY microphone holders. D.Studio equipment.
30.How would you describe the recording process of the author’s band Unit?
A.Highly organized and structured. B.Messy and DIY.

Gift giving in China
In China, gifts are given for holidays, such as birthdays or special events like a dinner at a friend’s home.
While it’s true that a gift is just a gift, what is more important is the meaning behind the gift. In China, some gifts need to be avoided including clocks, shoes, umbrellas, knives, green hats, anything in groups of four and anything in black or white.
Gift Wrapping (包装)Chinese gifts can be wrapped with wrapping paper. Red is for luck. Pink is for happiness. Gold is for wealth (财富). So wrapping paper in these colors is the best. White and black are the symbols of death and should not be used.
Red Envelopes (红包)Wrapping money in a red envelope means good wishes. People usually give red envelopes to kids during Chinese New Year.
Gift giving in America
Whether a gift is given or not, greeting cards are often used for birthdays, Christmas, Father’s/Mother’s Day, weddings (婚礼), and Easter. In America, common gifts are candies or toys for children, and chocolate, fine food, books, clothes and tools for adults.
After receiving a gift, people show thanks to the person by saying “Thank you so much.” or “This is too nice.” Hugs or kisses may be exchanged. Returning gifts is not a must, but thank-you cards are very common. And they should usually be sent out in the same week when the gifts are received.

First, if you want to visit your friends, you’d better make a call to them. Second, when you go somewhere to meet your friends, you should be on time. It’s very important. Third, when you meet your friends, you are supposed to shake hands with a smile on your face. Fourth, it’s impolite to talk loudly at table. What’s more, you can’t point at anyone with chopsticks. Then, you should thank your friends for the delicious food. Finally, you’d better not ask the lady’s age.
I’m looking forward to seeing you!
Yours,
Li Hua

26.What does the writer like best?
A.Sharing music with others. B.Recording music.
C.Writing music. D.Singing music.
27.The name of the writer’s band is ________.
A.One B.Unit C.DIY D.Rock
28.What does the author think about the messy recording process?
A.It was a complete disaster. B.It was not as fun as professional recordings.
C.Professional and conventional. D.Technologically advanced.

请阅读下面的非连续性文本,根据语篇内容,回答问题,并将答案写在答题卡相应的位置上。
Gift giving is common. Over time, different cultures have developed their own gift-giving customs and traditions.
______
In America, gifts are usually opened at the end of an event or a birthday party, except for the wedding. Gifts are never opened during a wedding. They can be opened only after all the guests have left.
46.What is the passage mainly about?
47.How many countries are mentioned in the passage?
48.What gifts should be avoided when choosing gifts in China? (One example is OK.)
49.When should Americans send out thank-you cards after receiving the gifts?
50.What’s the best subtitle (小标题) of the third textbox?

In Russia if you give flowers as presents, you have to give an odd number of them (One, Three, five, etc.) because even numbers of flowers are for funerals.
In Germany, if you are invited to dinner, flowers are good presents to take to your dinner hostess (女主人), but don’t take her red roses because it means you are in love with her.

In China, gifts are given for holidays, such as birthdays or special events like a dinner at a friend’s home.
