B     It's no secret that some people have a harder time getting along with others than others. But why is that? Why do some people seem to always be at odds with those around them?     There are potential explanations for why someone might have trouble getting along with others. One reason might be that they're simply not used to being around people. If someone is used to being alone, they might not know how to act around other people. They might not know how to start a conversation or how to keep one going.     Another reason why someone might have trouble getting along with others is that they might not be very social. Some people are just naturally quiet and shy and don't enjoy being around large groups of people. This can make it difficult for them to get along with others because they might not know how to act in social situations.     Lastly, some people have trouble getting along with others because they might not be very empathetic (有同感的). Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. If someone isn't very empathetic, they might not be able to understand why someone is feeling a certain way. This can make it hard for them to understand and care about them or offer any support.     While there are a few different reasons why someone might have trouble getting along with others, there are also a few different solutions. One solution is to simply try to be more understanding. If you can try to see things from the other person's perspective(视角), it might be easier for you to get along with them.     Another solution is to try to be more social. If you're not outgoing, it can be challenging to break out of your comfort zone and actively seek out new social experiences. Go to events, meet new people, and put yourself in new situations. The more you do this, the easier it will be for you to get along with others.     Lastly, try to be more empathetic. If you're not very empathetic, try to practice being more understanding and supportive towards others. With time and practice, you should be able to get along with others much better. 24.What might be a reason why some people are not able to start conversations? A. They are sometimes quiet. B. They need more social skills. C. They are usually alone. D. They are not empathetic. 25.How can someone who is not outgoing improve their ability to get along with others? A. By being more understanding. B. By avoiding social situations. C. By developing empathy. D. By seeking new social experiences. 26.What does the text suggest about empathy? A. It is a natural character that someone was born with. B. It is a skill that can be learned and practiced. C. It is the most important factor in getting along with others. D. It is the most effective way to build relationships. 27.How is the text developed? A. Problems—Reasons—Solutions. B. Problems—Effects—Reasons. C. Reasons—Effects—Solutions. D. Effects—Solutions—Reasons. C The hike to the lost Incan city of Choquequirao is one of the most difficult in Peru. From the town of Cachora, which is 161 km west of Cusco, itˈs an 18 km walk to Capuliyoc Mountain, then down to Playa Rosalina, where travellers camp for the night. Waking early, travellers then have to cross the Apurímac River and walk uphill to camp close to the ruins. Then, the next morning, itˈs another 2 km walk up to the ruins, 3,100 m above sea level. To get back? Well, itˈs the same way you come. “Iˈve seen people in their 60s and 70s do it,” said Juan Barrios, a guide from the Adventure Life company. “But some people come out thinking that because itˈs only 28 km from the drop-off they can do it in a day. Six or seven days for the hike is best.” It makes sense, then, that Choquequirao draws only about 30 people a day during the high season (June through August). Compare that to the 2,500 people who arrive each day at the famous Incan city of Machu Picchu. But for those who make the journey, the rewards (回报) are great: beautiful mountain views at every turn, and the chance to explore the wonderful ruins nearly alone. Believed to be created around the same time as Machu Picchu, in 1445, Choquequirao is actually larger than better-known Machu Picchu. But very little has been written about Peruˈs other lost city and researchers are still uncovering new parts of the ruins, leaving life on the mountain relatively untouched. But officials say that the building of the first cable car (缆车) to Choquequirao will shorten the several-day walk to a 15-minute cable car ride. As a result, the number of travellers that now make the journey each week could turn into 3,000 visitors per day. Choquequirao is beautiful now because of how untouched it is. Even though the lost city was discovered by Spanish explorer Juan Arias Díaz in 1710, the ruins still make you feel as though youˈre the first to find them. Will it be the same when more travellers flood in (大量涌入)? 28.What does the first paragraph centre on? A. How tall Choquequirao is. B. How to get to Choquequirao easily. C. What great views Choquequirao has. D. How hard the trip to Choquequirao is. 29.In what way is Choquequirao different from Machu Picchu? A. Choquequirao is older. B. Choquequirao is quieter. C. Choquequirao is smaller. D. Choquequirao is better known. 30.How are the ruins of Choquequirao? A. Theyˈre still being dug out. B. Theyˈre in generally poor condition. C. Theyˈre being renewed at the moment. D. Theyˈve been researched internationally. 31.What does the author think of Choquequirao in the future? A. It will be more attractive. B. It will develop at slow speed. C. It wonˈt necessarily take a turn for the better. D. It wonˈt be more popular than Machu Picchu. D Gold Coast family holidays are always great fun whether you are from Australia or from abroad. There are beautiful beaches, adventure parks, nature parks and so much more. There are so many sights to see here. It is a pity to drive in a car and youˈll miss a great part of it. Australia is home to many animals and birds that can only be seen when moving slowly and going into the areas where they live. When you are on a bicycle, you have the advantage of being able to stop whenever you want to see an interesting animal or bird that you have never seen before. W: Yes, he just started learning Japanese when he became a freshman at university this summer. 2.M: After getting to know Jim better, I changed my impression of him. I used to think that he is shy and quiet. W: Actually, he is an outgoing person. 3. M: You should really take the subway to work. Not only is it cheaper than driving your car, but it actually takes less time to get to work in the morning. W: Yeah, but I just hate the feeling of crowded subway cars. 4.W: Excuse me. Is there a park around here? M: Yes. Follow the path running along the river to the bridge. You will see a park beside it. 5.W: Ah, you're here. Sorry for calling you into the office early. Have a coffee. Did you have to rush to get here? M: Yes, I'll need to get some breakfast later. I had to leave mine on the table at home. I was in such a hurry. 6-7.W: Iˈm tired. My new fitness class is so hard. M: What about the beginnersˈ class? W: My coach thought that the beginnersˈ class was too easy for me. In the beginnersˈ class, they give you a chance to rest between exercises. The advanced is nonstop. M: I lift weights every morning for sixty minutes without stopping. And I usually do push-ups, use the spin bike. No problem. I could work out in your new class with no problem. W: Listen, Richard, doing gymnastics for an hour is a lot more difficult than lifting weights. M: I think I can go one hour in your class and not feel a thing. If I can, you cook dinner for me. If I canˈt, I cook dinner for you and our baby. Is that OK? W: All right. 8-9. M: Have you got anything exciting planned for the weekend? W: No, not really. I was planning to go round to Maryˈs but unluckily sheˈs got a bad cold. So, I will play tennis on Saturday. M: If the weather lets you. W: And on Sunday Iˈm going to see my parents and eat out with them. Then I will do some light housework after I get back home. M: Oh, very busy. Iˈm going to have a lazy weekend. Iˈm going to be packing so that when I fly away next Wednesday, it wonˈt be too much of a headache. 10-12. M: Hi, Kate, I just got a call from Mr Brown. Heˈs not happy. W: Whatˈs the matter? Is there anything wrong? M: Heˈs very annoyed that he hasnˈt received his travel arrangements. W: Thatˈs strange. I emailed the arrangements to him on Monday. M: Really? Are you sure you sent it to the right address? W: Yes, I got it directly from his companyˈs website. Iˈll call Mr Brown to let him know that Iˈll print out a hard copy and mail it to his office right away. 13-16. M: Do you know the big activity in the sports hall? You can see what clubs and societies there are and register for them. W: Iˈm not really that sporty. M: Itˈs not just sports clubs. There are societies like the International Society—my friend Lisa is the president of that, and the Ballet Society, and many more. I prefer joining the French Society of course. Itˈll be good for my course. W: What club are you going to register for? The Music Club? M: Actually, Iˈd prefer to join the Nature Club, because Iˈm interested in plants and animals. What about you? W: I donˈt know. If thereˈs a Chess Club, I might join it. I prefer it to any other club. M: But 1 think that would be as boring as studying in the library. Why donˈt you try something new? What about the Debate Club? W: I donˈt think I like discussing and exchanging ideas with others. 17-20.Ten years ago, I had an idea. It came to me as I sat in my apartment, which had not been cleaned for a long while. At the time I regarded cleaning as annoying. I didn't want to do it at all. I wanted to work as a scientist. But why would I want to clean then? An idea came to me after a while. House cleaning could also be seen as a science, with different elements and methods applied to do a perfect job. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that cleaning is actually an art-creating order where there is often none to be found. It was then that I came up with the name of my company, The Art of Cleaning. We started small, in just one town, cleaning private houses. Later, we opened in a second town and did offices as well. These days we do whole apartment blocks, hotels and businesses. I grew to love cleaning and the methods used to achieve a clean environment. And, speaking of the environment, my company is doing its bit to protect the planet. We avoid using acids and chemicals, choosing only natural soaps to do cleaning. 第12页,共14页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
