B During the lively Paris Olympics, while the spotlight shone on the athletes, a group of unsung heroes worked tirelessly behind the scenes — the Olympic volunteers. This year, out of 300,000 applicants, around 45,000 were chosen as volunteers, with 20 percent coming from nearly 150 countries. These volunteers wore bright green uniforms (制服) to be easily noticed in the purple venues (场馆). They offered help to viewers and media alike, making them an important part of the Olympic experience. On my first day as a reporter, I met a technical problem with my media system account. Thankfully, Chinese volunteer Guo came to help me out. “I hope to improve my language, communication skills, and problem- solving methods through this event,” said 24-year-old Guo from Wuhan, Central China’s Hubei Province, who was studying wireless communication at the Paris Institute of Digital Technology. As a former professional swimmer, Guo saw this as her chance to take part in the Olympics, though in a different role. Another Chinese volunteer, Yang, faced challenges in managing her job and volunteer duties. Despite giving up her holidays, she felt great pride in contributing to the event. One of my most memorable experiences was meeting with a French volunteer. When I needed help to find the visitor center, a young man on a scooter (小型摩托车) appeared, like a sort of “Monkey King riding a cloud”, and offered to take me there. After helping me, he expressed his admiration for the Beijing Olympics and his desire to visit China again. Volunteers like them were seen everywhere — from bus stops to competition venues — offering directions and helping with a smile. When large crowds left the venues after the events, causing overcrowding, some volunteers sat on high chairs with loudspeakers, providing directions to go outside in both English and French with a smile. These amazing volunteers, truly show the Olympic spirit, making the event and Paris shine even brighter. 4. Why might the volunteers wear bright green uniforms? A. To stand out in the crowd. B. To show love for athletes. C. To fit in with the venues. D. To stand for their countries. 5. What do we know about Guo? A. She found it hard to balance her job and volunteer work. B. She both swam and volunteered in the Paris Olympics. C. She wanted to improve herself through volunteer work. D. She wasn’t as patient and helpful as the French volunteer. 6. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To doubt the organization of the Paris Olympics, B. To praise the service of Paris Olympic volunteers. C. To show the meaning of hosting Olympic Games. D. To provide a detailed schedule of Olympic events. 7. How is the text mainly developed? A. By listing the benefits of volunteer work. B. By discussing historical Olympic events. C. By comparing different views on Olympics. D. By sharing personal stories and experiences. C When a 14-year-old boy from Atlanta, Georg1a disappeared earlier this year, his mother turned to her smartphone for clues using an app called Family Tracker that helped track his location. It is one of several apps that allow parents to track where their children are. “You can see where your loved ones are without having to call or bother them,” said Roberto Franceschetti of LogSat, the creators of Family Tracker, which has more than 100,000 users worldwide. Parents can track the location of their child on a map and send messages. Parents don’t need to own a smartphone to track their children. The service can also be accessible on the web, as long as the phone that is being tracked is running the app. Family Tracker has an additional service that keeps all data made by the app for a two-week period which the company calls BDS breadcrumbs(面包屑). The service was used to find the missing boy in Atlanta. “With a subscription(订阅), we keep all the locations where people have been on our servers. You can see where your kid has been for the past two weeks. You can find out where someone was at a certain time, or when that person was at a specific place,” Franceschetti explained. “When somebody gets kidnapped(绑架), usually whoever does this throws the phone away or takes the battery out. We were hoping that our app would at least provide information on where the person was kidnapped or where had been in the past. That way the police would have a history or some clues as to who they may have been seeing.” 8. What does the text mainly about? A. The invention of an app called Family Tracker. B. An app designed to help parents find missing children. C. A smartphone which can activate an alarm in remote areas. D. An app which can be used both on the phone and on the Net. 9. Which is the most important factor(因素)if a parent wants to know where his child is? A. The parent must have a smartphone. B. The parent has to buy a map. C. The child must have a phone running the app. D. The child must not be in faraway areas. 10. What is BDS breadcrumbs used to do? A. To let parents send messages. B. To locate where children are. C. To warn children of time. D. To store data produced by the app. 11. From the last paragraph we can infer that the app can be of some help to________. A. parents B. teachers C. robbers D. policemen D It is difficult for a teacher to decide whether to allow students to listen to music in the classroom. Every time students need to write an essay or work on a problem, they say, “Can I put my headphones on? I think better that way.” But is that really true? Does music help concentrate? Research offers little to back up the idea that listening to music improves concentration. In one small study, 133 students performed reading tasks while listening to either light music, hip hop, or no music at all. Students who performed the reading tasks in silence scored the highest. Music with a higher intensity (强度) like hip hop was more distracting and had a bad effect on task performance. Volume (音量) plays a more important role than the type of music. The study found that the louder the music, the worse the performance in concentration. The type of music didn’t matter. Data from the study showed once again that silence was the best environment to improve concentration. However, music has a positive effect on work performance. Studies have showed that listening to music leads to positive changes in mood, as well as creativity. In fact, in music-listening cultures, which students are certainly part of, there’s actually a change in mood when the music is taken away. It’s hard to convince my students that music doesn’t help with their concentration. Taj, a senior told me, “I wouldn’t be able to concentrate if I were listening to music and trying to read. However, when I write, I feel like music helps me concentrate deeply. I don’t have writer’s block. It’s easy for me to put my words on paper.” “Maybe not with reading, but when it comes to math, listening to music certainly helps,” Danela told me. “You could actually be singing along with what you’re listening to and doing well in math.” 12. What does the underlined word “distracting” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Making it difficult for someone to concentrate. B. Causing great excitement. C. Making someone want to do something. D. Making someone feel frightened. 13. What can we learn from the small study? A. Students do well in reading tasks while listening to music. B. Music can’t improve people’s mood and creativity. C. Different types of music lead to different performances. D. The volume of music affects concentration. 14. What do Taj and Danela have in common? A. They believe music doesn’t help concentrate. B. They use music to help with their paper-writing. C. They can’t focus on reading while listening to music. D. They don’t listen to music while doing math problems. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Should Students Listen to Music? B. Does Music Help Concentration? C. Is Music Related to Reading? D. Can Music Change Mood? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项, Friendship plays an important role in our life. How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the kitchen. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do. The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to boil while they made the French toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added in some milk. Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jeff turned on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely. Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear! B. Family Tracker has an additional service that keeps all data made by the app for a two-week period, which the company calls BDS breadcrumbs(面包屑). C Making someone want to do something. 【答案】12. A 13. D 14. C 15. B 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了听音乐是否有助于集中注意力的问题。 【12题详解】 词句猜测题。 根据第二段第一句“Research offers little to back up the idea that listening to music improves concentration.(研究几乎没有提供什么支持听音乐可以提高注意力的观点)”可知,本段主要讨论听音乐是否能提高注意力,结合画线单词上文和下文“Music with a higher intensity (强度) like hip hop was more distracting had a greater negative effect on task performance and concentration.(高强度的音乐,如嘻哈音乐更distracting,对任务表现和注意力有更大的负面影响)”可知,高强度的音乐,如嘻哈音乐是不能提高注意力的,是使人分心的,所以划线单词“distracting”的意思是“使人分心的”,和A选项“Making it difficult for someone to concentrate.(让人难以集中注意力)”意思相近,故选A。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。 根据第三段中的“The study found that the louder the music, the worse the performance in concentration.(研究发现,音乐越响,注意力越差)”可知,音量会影响注意力,故选D。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。 根据倒数第二段中的“Taj, a senior told me “I wouldn’t be able to concentrate if I were listening to music and trying to read.(Taj,一个高年级学生,他告诉我,“如果我听音乐并试图阅读,我会不能集中注意力”)”和最后一段中的““Maybe not with reading, but when it comes to math, listening to music certainly helps,” Danela told me.(Danela告诉我:“听音乐也许对阅读没有好处,但是当涉及到数学时,听音乐肯定有帮助。”)”可知,Taj和Danela的共同之处在于,他们在听音乐时,无法集中精力阅读,故选C。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。 通读全文,尤其是第一段“It is difficult for a teacher to decide whether to allow students to listen to music in the classroom. Every time students need to write an essay or work on a problem, they say, “Can I put my headphones on? I think better that way.” But is that really true? Friendship plays an important role in our life. They spend countless hours on social media, gaming, or watching videos, and even rely on the internet to do daily homework, posing potential risks to their health and study. This worrying trend needs our attention. In my view, while the internet is a valuable resource for learning and entertainment, it should be used wisely. Overuse can lead to isolation and academic decline due to addiction and distractions. To tackle this issue, I suggest setting a time limit on internet usage and engaging in more face-to-face interactions. By doing so, we can enjoy the benefits of the internet without letting it control our lives. Let’s be smart users of the internet. 【解析】 【导语】本篇书面表达属于投稿征文。要求考生就部分中学生过度使用网络的现象写一篇短文,向学校英文报投稿,介绍该现象,并表达自己的看法和建议。 【详解】1. 词汇积累: 依赖、依靠:rely on→depend on 趋势:trend→tendency 观点:view→opinion 因为:due to→because of 解决:tackle→deal with 优势、好处:benefit→advantage 2. 句式拓展: 同义句转换: 原句:They spend countless hours on social media, gaming, or watching videos, and even rely on the internet to do daily homework, posing potential risks to their health and study. 拓展句:They spend countless hours on social media, gaming, or watching videos, and even rely on the internet to do daily homework, which poses potential risks to their health and study. 【点睛】【高分句型1】In my view, while the internet is a valuable resource for learning and entertainment, it should be used wisely.(运用了以连词while引导的让步状语从句。) 【高分句型2】To tackle this issue, I suggest setting a time limit on internet usage and engaging in more face-to-face interactions.(运用了动词不定式作目的状语,以及动名词作宾语。) 第二节读后续写(满分25分) 47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 A MOTHER’S DAY SURPRISE The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for Mother’s Day. Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右。 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared.
