Why Was School Created
Why was school created? We're sure that's a question that every student asks from time to time. Especially on test days, many students can’t help but wonder why they are made to take such cruel and unusual punishment!
If you're honest with yourself, though, you know in your heart what a great place school is. You have fun, learn all kinds of interesting things, and get to spend time with your friends. Sure, tests can be stressful, but think of how boring life would be if you didn't get to learn new things and see other people so often!
Schools are not a new invention. You may have seen some old schoolhouses that have been around for a couple hundred years or more. The earliest schools, though, date back thousands of years! In fact, education dates back to the very first humans ever to take over the planet. But back to the question at the beginning — why school?
Well, every generation has found it necessary to pass on their knowledge, skills, values, and traditions to the next generation. But how can they do this? That's education! And through education, each new generation can learn these things.
The earliest human beings educated youngsters by themselves at home and passed along their knowledge, skills, values, and traditions. Over time, however, the population grew and societies formed. Then people began to realize what a waste of time and effort it was to educate just a couple of their little ones at home on their own. They believed it would be easier and more efficient to have a small group of adults teach a larger group of children. In this way, school was born.

Passage E
Hello, everyone. I'm very proud that I have been chosen to speak to you all today. I'm a bit nervous as I've never made a speech before to so many people, so please forgive me if it shows!
As we all know, this is the school leavers' party and it's time to say goodbye to everyone. We' re sorry to leave you at the end of our junior high school education and we promise that we'll never forget the happy times we have spent in these buildings with you all.
I'd like to thank three groups of people for the three things I've learnt while I am a pupil at our school. The three things are friendship, love and knowledge.
The first group is my friends and what I've learnt is the importance of friendship. We've worked hard together and we've even shared some difficult times together but we've also had a lot of fun. Many of us will go to new schools and we may not see each other so often in the future. Others will go on to senior high school and continue their close friendships. But friends don't have to see each other all the time. Sometimes the friends you treasure most are the friends you see less often. A life without old friends is like a day without sunshine. We'll always stay in touch.
The second group is our parents and grandparents. We thank you for the love you have shown to us during our years at junior high school, for making homes where we feel both safe, and relaxed, and where we can prepare ourselves for our school days. We also thank you for your help with our homework. How many of us owe our good grades to the suggestions you have made during those long evenings?
And finally, the third group is our teachers. We can never pay you back for your kindness, your patience and gift of knowledge which you have offered us. Sometimes you've made us work very hard. But you have always been fair and you'll always be our role models.
There's a saying from Ireland which is a favorite of mine: Strangers are only friends you haven't met yet. I couldn't say it better myself. So from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all and wish you success in the future.

"Many students are happy to tell 'their friends' about their interest on social media. And this could bring them danger," said Miss Wang, a teacher from Shenzhen. "For example, WeChat's shake-shake function allows users to connect to other users nearby. Be careful. Do not use the location function at any moment; do not give your name, and do not post the photos of your community."

I used to be shy and my first day at the new school made me look stupid in front of the class. The teacher asked me to write my name and address on the blackboard. I knew my name and address, knew how to write them, knew how to spell them, but standing at the blackboard with the eyes of the many girls and boys looking at me made me nervous. I was unable to write a single letter.
"Write your name," the teacher said to me. I lifted the white chalk to the blackboard and, as I was about to write my name, my mind went empty. I could not remember my name, not even the first letter. "Just forget about us and write your name and address," said the teacher. I wanted to write but my hand refused to move. The children began to whisper. "Don't you know your name?" asked the teacher. I looked at her and could not answer. The teacher stood up and walked to my side, smiling at me to give me confidence (自信) .
She put her hand softly on my shoulder and asked, "What's your name?"
"Richard Wright," I whispered. I spelled my name very quickly.
"Now, can you write?"
"Yes, madam."
Again, I turned to the blackboard. I wrote my name and address down quickly and correctly.
"Good boy. You may go to your seat," said the teacher.
Today I can still remember my teacher's words and encouragement. They meant a lot to me.
