A boy lost in the wilderness was saved by a kangaroo. That’s the story floating around after
Simon Kruger, a 7-year-old boy, was rescued fromAustralia’s Deep Creek Conservation Park.
According to Australia’s 7 News, the saga(传奇故事) began when Simon wandered off after
the family ate a picnic lunch. Apparently the lost boy drifted away to pick flowers for his mom.
Instead, he got hopelessly lost—and without adequate warm clothing to stay out overnight in the
forest.
A police search, including helicopters, followed. But Simon wasn’t found for 24 hours—even
though he was ultimately discovered only about half a kilometer from the family’s campsite. His
father Etienne Kruger thinks his son was disoriented when the rain and wind swept in after he got
lost.
However it happened, Simon wasn’t found for almost a full 24 hours. The overnight weather
was cold and wet, dropping to a low of around 43 degrees Fahrenheit.
So how did the lost boy survive the cold, wet night? The family said that Simon’s flowers for
his mom attracted a kangaroo. His dad explained,“A kangaroo came closer to him and ate the
flowers from him, and the kangaroo fell asleep next to him. I think God sent a kangaroo to keep

Do you want a bit of an adventure? Would you like to discover all the corners of the UK, or
travel abroad? Maybe you have never tried the motorhome lifestyle before. Well, read this article
and you will know why a motorhome is a good choice.
Nothing is better than a motorhome. It has so many uses that it is considered the most versatile
vehicle and it is also very comfortable. If you are thinking about hiring a motorhome this summer,
then the best choice is to book it early, especially if you are considering the school holidays. The
motorhome hire service is very seasonal and motorhome hire companies will never have extra
vehicles available in the summer months.
There are a lot of companies throughout the UK, and some of the big ones have motorhomes
spread all over the country. At present, the largest network for motorhome hire is provided by
Motorhome which is based in Cambridge. If you are in the UK, you may phone 0800612-8719 for
details of its motorhome hire information. Motorhome has a network of over 500 vehicles all over
England, Scotland and Wales.
Most people wishing to hire a motorhome are families that are looking for an alternative to a
European package holiday, especially as flying now has become more expensive, and is considered
to be environmentally unfriendly. There is no doubt that the idea of no-fly holidays is going to
become more popular as fewer people think it is safe to fly. This explains why more and more
people are choosing to hire a motorhome for their holidays.
28.The main purpose of this text is to explain why it is a good idea to _________.
A.take an adventure B.travel to England
C.try a new lifestyle D.hire a motorhome
29.What does the underlined word “versatile” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.fast. B.safe. C.useful. D.exciting.
30.Why should you book a motorhome early if you want to book one for this summer?
A.Booking early is much cheaper. B.Summer is usually a very busy season.
C.You can arrange your time better this way. D.Students usually book them to earn money.
31.The last paragraph tells us the advantages of hiring a motorhome by _________.
A.telling us a story B.giving detailed data
C.comparing it with flying D.showing the results of a study
D
Are some people born clever, and others born stupid? Or is intelligence developed by our
environment and our experience? Strangely enough, the answer to these questions is yes. To some
extent our intelligence is given to us at birth, and no amount of education can make a genius (天
才 )out of a child born with low intelligence. On the other hand, a child who lives in a boring
environment will develop his intelligence less than one who lives in rich and varied surrounding
(环境). Thus the limits of person' s intelligence are fixed at birth, whether or not he reaches those
limits will depend on his environment. This view, now held by most experts, can be supposed in a
number of ways.
It is easy to show that intelligence is to some extent something we are born with. The closer
the blood relationship between two people, the closer they are likely to be intelligent. Thus if we
take two unrelated people at random from population, it is likely that their degree of intelligence
高一英语 第 7 页(共 12 页) 高一英语 第 8 页(共 12 页)
will be completely different. If, on the other hand, we take two identical(完全相同的) twins, they
will very likely to be as intelligent as each other. Relations like brothers and sisters, parents and
children, usually have similar intelligence, and this clearly suggests that intelligence depends on
birth.
Imagine now that we take two identical twins and put them in different environments. We
might send one, for example, to a university and the other to a factory where the working is boring.
We would soon find differences in intelligence developing, and this shows that environment as
well as birth plays a part. This conclusion is also suggested by the fact that people who live in close
contact with each other, but who are not related at all are likely to have similar degree of
intelligence.
32.Which of these sentences best describes the writer's point in Paragraph 1?
A.To some extent, intelligence is given at birth.
B.Intelligence is developed by the environment.
C.Some people are born clever and others born stupid.
D.Intelligence is fixed at birth, but is developed by the environment.
33.It is suggested in this passage that_______.
A.unrelated people are not likely to have different intelligence
B.close relations usually have similar intelligence
C.the closer the blood relationship between people, the more different they are likely to be in
intelligence
D.people who live in close contact with each other are not likely to have similar degrees of
intelligence
34.Brothers and sisters are likely to_______.
A.have similar intelligence B.have different intelligence
C.go to the same university D.go to the same factory
35.The best title for this article would be_______.
A.On Intelligence
B.What Intelligence Means
C.WeAre Born with Intelligence
D.Environment Plays a Part in Developing Intelligence

Doing well in science depends on developing useful study skills and learning to participate
(参与 ) in class. 36 If you’ve got good study skills that you’ve developed in other
courses, you’ll be able to use many of these to do well in science.
Read the required material. When your teacher requires reading from a textbook or a website,
take time to read it before you come to class. If you don’t have time to read it well, it’s a good idea
to look quickly at it so that you have an idea of what it’s about. 37
Take clear and organized notes. The notes you take in class will help you know what to study
between classes. 38 Instead, pay careful attention to any information your teacher
stresses, which is likely to be included on tests.
39 Many science classes include laboratory experiments, which are practice of
techniques you’ve learned about in your textbook or lectures. Your teacher will expect you to show
up ready to start your experiment. Read the instructions for the laboratory in advance of class.
Reread your notes after class. If there’s anything in your notes that confuses you, or which you
feel might be wrong, check with your teacher or a classmate to ensure you have the right
information. 40 This tests your understanding of the material in a way that ensures
you’ve really grasped (理解) the meaning.
A.Be prepared for the laboratory experiment.
B.Work in a group with others in class.
C.Doing a good job in laboratories is also a good way to improve your performance in science.
D.Recording a lecture will allow you to hear it again.
E.Rereading can help you to rewrite your notes in a better way.
F.Don’t try to write down everything that the teacher says.
G.It also helps you be prepared to answer questions and have discussions.
