B One day in Bronx, a first-grade teacher sat down in a barbershop for a trim (修剪) and one of his students walked in, sat down and started looking antsy. He thought to himself that it was a perfect opportunity to practice reading, a thought that changed Alvin Irby’s life, and he’s filling many barbershops around the US with free books to decrease childhood illiteracy (文盲). His non-profit, Barbershop Books, has delivered 50,000 free books to more than 200 barbershops in major black neighborhoods in 24 states, revealing the fact that in Black American communities, barbershops are like community centers where people get together naturally. Irby’s program may seem straightforward, but there’s a lot of thought behind it. He puts a colorful, kid-sized bookshelf in each shop, making it inviting to children. The books displayed are all carefully chosen based on recommendations from his target audience. The bookshelves display the covers of the books, helping kids who may be interested in reading seize the opportunity for themselves, whether they’re in the barber’s chair or they’re waiting on their dad or friend. And, Irby involves the barbers in his mission—training them to engage kids about reading. “We want them to encourage kids to use the reading spaces,” he said. “Then they can talk to them about how they like reading, how funny a book was, or tell them about another book another kid was reading.” Denny Moe was the first barber to work with Irby. Moe had previously offered video games at his Harlem shop, to bring in extra income, but he was willing to abandon that to help the community. “I decided to pay it forward by getting rid of the video games, putting books in here, just to get the kids’ minds going” he said. “I want to make an impact.” “These books, I would say, have power,” 8-year-old boy Chance said. That’s what keeps Irby motivated. “I’m just excited that we get to create a safe space for boys to do something that’s really life changing, “he said. “That’s what I really believe reading is. It unlocks potential.” 4. Why is Irby’s program appealing to children? A. It stimulates children’s efforts. B. It guarantees children’s security. C. It responds to children’s requests. D. It caters to children’s preferences. 5. What made Denny Moe the first barber to cooperate with Irby? A. His desire to make a big fortune. B. His ambition to make a difference. C. His hope of meeting business demands. D. His motive for attracting more customers. 6. Why does the author mention Chance in the last paragraph? A. To prove Irby’s efforts successful. B. To stress great importance of books. C. To show human unlimited potential. D. To urge children to read more books. 7. What is the real meaning of Irby’s act of kindness? A. Reading can change children’s life. B. Hairdressers can earn more money. C. Children are completely independent. D. Barbershops are good gathering places. C Dolphins and fishermen in Laguna, Brazil, like the same food: Mullets (鲻鱼). But rather than compete, the two have formed an alliance. Common bottlenose dolphins will chase schools of mullets toward shore, where a row of fishermen stand waist-deep in the water, nets in hand. The fishermen can’t see the fish through the murky water, so instead, they watch the dolphins. When the marine mammals slap their heads or tails against the water, they cue (提示) the fishermen to cast their nets, which in turn breaks up the schools and makes individual fish easier for the dolphins to catch. Now, a new study suggests the dolphins are willing partners in this cooperation. They pay close attention to the humans, timing their actions to maximize their catch. The animals may even be guiding the people, says Simon Ingram, a marine biologist. He says, “It’s almost as if the dolphins are training the humans.” Fishers must understand the dolphins’ cues, learning them over time, Cantor, a behavioral ecologist at the University of Cambridge, says. “The dolphins are almost like teachers.” This fishing partnership has passed down through the generations lasting for more than a century. According to a study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers suggest dolphins that hunt with humans have increased survival rates over those that don’t. These cooperative dolphins are more likely to stay near the shore, reducing their chance of entanglement (缠住) in illegal fishing gear. Fishers were also more successful when they worked with the dolphins. When dolphins were present, the fishers were 17 times more likely to catch fish and netted nearly 4 times more mullets when they timed their casting with the dolphins’ signals. This is really incredible cooperative behavior. Other populations of dolphins have also been known to cooperate with human fishers, herding fish toward shore or into nets off eastern Australia, Mauritania, and Southeast Asia. But these practices have either disappeared or are in decline. 8. How can dolphins catch mullets more easily according to paragraph 1? A. By competing against humans. B. By using unique hunting skills. C. By forming a team with other fishes. D. By cooperating with local fishermen. 9. Why does the ecologist say that the dolphins are almost like teachers? A. The dolphins always imitate human behavior. B. The dolphins try to communicate with fishers. C. The dolphins are willing to adjust their actions. D. The dolphins often signaled fishers to catch fish. 10. What’s the benefit of dolphins working with fishermen? A. They avoid potential risks or dangers. B. They are often rescued by fishermen. C. They have better living environment. D. They are getting increasingly smarter. 11. What does the author intend to convey in the text? A. Dolphins are cooperative creatures. B. Dolphins are dependent on fishermen. C. Humans are struggling for their survival. D. Humans are learning skills from animals D Egypt’s Great Pyramids at Giza exist on a remote area of land at the edge of the Sahara Desert. The inhospitable location has long puzzled archaeologists, some of whom had found evidence that the Nile River once flowed near these pyramids in some capacity, promoting the landmarks’construction starting 4,700 years ago. Using satellite imaging and analysis of cores of sediment (沉积物), a new study published in the journal Communications Earth& Environment has mapped a 64-kilometer-long, dried-up branch of the Nile, long buried beneath farmland and desert. Lead author Eman Ghoneim said previous efforts to reconstruct Nile waterways were largely limited to soil sample collections from small sites, mapping only small sections. “This is the first study to provide a map of the long- lost ancient branch of the Nile River,” she noted. Ghoneim and her team called this extinct branch Ahramat, Arabic for pyramids. It was about 0.5 km wide and at least 25 meters deep, similar to the current Nile. “The large size and extended length of the Ahramat Branch and its proximity (邻近) to the 31 pyramids in the study area strongly suggest a functional waterway of great importance,” Ghoneim said. She thought the river would have played a key role in ancient Egyptians’transportation of the enormous amount of building materials and laborers needed for the pyramids’construction. Ghoneim, born and raised in Egypt, was always curious about the pyramids’construction site. She investigated with NSF funding and found geophysical data confirming it was an ancient Nile arm. Earth cores revealed sandy sediment, consistent with a river channel at 25 meters’depth. The study suggests “countless” temples may be buried along the Ahramat Branch’s riverbank. Why the river dried up remains unclear, but a likely cause is a period of drought and desertification. 12. What does the underlined word in paragraph l probably mean? A. Unapproachable. B. Unlivable. C. Inhabitable. D. Unavailable. 13. What did the previous studies on the Nile River focus on? A. The Great Pyramids of Giza. B. The entire Nile River system. C. Soil sample collections from small sites. D. The dryness of the Nile River branch. 14. What does Ghoneim think about the Ahramat Branch? A. It was not important to ancient Egyptians. B It was the main waterway of the Nile River. C. It dried up due to the digging of the pyramids. D. It played a key role in the construction of the pyramids. 15. What is the best title of the passage? A. Lost branch of the Nile River B. The mystery of the remote land C. The Nile River’s role in ancient Egypt D. This is like product placement—where products are shown or mentioned in TV shows and films. Beth, an assistant professor of marketing and advertisement, tells us that product placement is most effective when it is not too obvious. ____17____ It seems that a subtle (不易察觉的) approach can be more persuasive. But when fears are exaggerated (夸大) or we feel helpless, we are likely to switch off. Advertisements often show perfect-looking people because marketers believe that we will desire to be like them and buy the products they support. ____19____ The research that she mentions shows these ads can make people feel bad and put them off products. These studies say that seeing a more human side of people can lead us to believe them. ____20____ So, it seems that the best technique advertisers can use to persuade people is to fully understand the people they are selling to. A. Some of them use fear to persuade us. B. One way is simply to describe something as normal. C. Superstars are gradually losing their commercial value. D. We become defensive if we know that someone is trying to sell us something. E. However, a researcher in marketing points out this may not be the best strategy. F. It was a typical summer afternoon. Bob suggested we skip a language lesson to play basketball. Ahal I would show my defense, lay-ups and three-point shooting. I loved to explore, I loved sports, and I loved basketball most. I believed I would be the next LeBron James. But my passion for sports came to a sudden stop when I began experiencing extreme back pain later that day. After several visits to doctors, finally I was told that a spine(脊柱) surgery was necessary. Unfortunately, the surgery accidentally damaged my spinal cord(脊髓). I was in the ward hanging face down to relieve the pressure on my spine. After four-month rehabilitation training(康复训练) in hospital, reality slowly set in—I was unable to walk again. I couldn’t believe this should have happened to me, that it wasn’t possible to recover, that I wouldn’t become a famous basketball player, that my life as I had known it, was over. My future would be chained to a wheelchair. I was just 16 years old! Back home, I learned how hard it was going to be to get around in a wheelchair. I withdrew from my friends and my basketball. At Bob’s repeated invitation, I agreed to go to our regular swimming hole. Unable to make it down the riverbank alone, I was too proud to ask for help. When I finally realized my pride would keep me away from people and sports I loved, I let Bob carry me on his back to the river’s edge. Allowing others to help was a turning point. I realized my attitude was the biggest barrier I had to face. How could I expect others to see my potential if I didn’t see it myself? How could I realize my basketball dream if I withdrew into myself? 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 One day, Bob took me to a wheelchair basketball game. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With Bob’s encouragement, I decided to have a try at my dream. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力答案: 1-5 BABBC 6-10 CACAB 11-15 BAABB 16-20 CCACA 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 江苏省通州高级中学2024-2025学年度高二年级 第二次阶段性测试英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. C It responds to children’s requests. D. “The dolphins are almost like teachers.” This fishing partnership has passed down through the generations, lasting for more than a century. 8 How can dolphins catch mullets more easily according to paragraph 1? D. Humans are learning skills from animals 【答案】8. D 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段“The animals may even be guiding the people, says Simon Ingram, a marine biologist. He says, “It’s almost as if the dolphins are training the humans.” Fishers must understand the dolphins’ cues, learning them over time, Cantor, a behavioral ecologist at the University of Cambridge, says. “The dolphins are almost like teachers.” 根据第三段“According to a study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers suggest dolphins that hunt with humans have increased survival rates over those that don’t. These cooperative dolphins are more likely to stay near the shore, reducing their chance of entanglement (缠住) in illegal fishing gear. (根据《美国国家科学院院刊》(Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences)发表的一项研究,研究人员认为与人类一起狩猎的海豚相比,其生存率更高。这些合作的海豚更有可能留在海岸附近,减少被非法渔具缠住的机会。)”可知,海豚和渔民一起工作时,他们可以避免潜在的风险或危险。故选A项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Other populations of dolphins have also been known to cooperate with human fishers, herding fish toward shore or into nets off eastern Australia, Mauritania, and Southeast Asia. (其他海豚群体也已知与人类渔民进行合作,在澳大利亚东部、毛里塔尼亚和东南亚的海域,它们会将鱼群赶向岸边或者驱至渔网中)”结合全文可知,本文作者想表达海豚是合作的动物。故选A项。 D Egypt’s Great Pyramids at Giza exist on a remote area of land at the edge of the Sahara Desert. B. It was the main waterway of the Nile River. C It dried up due to the digging of the pyramids. D. It played a key role in the construction of the pyramids. 15. What is the best title of the passage? A. Lost branch of the Nile River B. The mystery of the remote land C. The Nile River’s role in ancient Egypt D. The construction of the Great Pyramids 【答案】12. B 13. C 14. D 15. The only true thing that can be said of the Xixi wetlands is _____45_____ if you haven’t seen them, you haven’t really seen Hangzhou. 【答案】36. an 37. truly 38. for 39. and 40. is occupied 41. dividing 42. has established 43. located 44. to see 45. that 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 故填an。 故填for。 【39题详解】 考查连词。句意:公园占地11.5平方公里,由三条堤道组成,以十大著名景点为特色。分析可知,空后“features(以……为特色,以……为主要组成)”为动词第三人称单数,是谓语动词,与“consists”并列作谓语,因此,所填空应并列连词and。故填and。 【40题详解】 考查动词时态和主谓一致。句意:公园的近70%被河港、池塘和小湖占据,这说明了湿地环境。分析可知,所填动词作句子的谓语动词。结合语境,时态用一般现在时,且主语“Nearly 70% of the park”与动词“occupy”之间为被动关系,主语由“百分数+of+单数可数名词”构成,被视为第三人称单数,因此,应是结构:is done。故填is occupied。 【41题详解】 考查非谓语动词。句意:这些水道穿过公园,将其划分为不同的部分:东部,西部和中部。分析可知,“____6____ (divide) it into distinct sections…”为伴随状语,动词“divide(分成,分割)”与其逻辑主语“These waterways”之间为主动关系,用现在分词形式。故填dividing。 【42题详解】 考查动词时态。句意:最近,政府建立了生态保护区和观光区。分析可知,所填动词作句子的谓语动词。结合时间状语“Recently”可知,用现在完成时,主语“the government”为第三人称单数,应是“has done”。故填has established。 【43题详解】 考查非谓语动词。句意:此外,游客还可以参观湿地科学展览馆,它位于公园正门。分析可知,“conveniently ____8____ (locate) at the park’s main entrance”为后置定语,修饰之前的宾语“the Wetland Science Exhibition Hall”,动词“locate(把……安置在,建造于)”与其之间为被动关系,用过去分词形式。故填located。 【44题详解】 考查非谓语动词。句意:看西溪湿地没有正确的方式。分析可知,这里应是动词不定式作名词“way”的后置定语,“the way to do”,意为“做某事的方式/方法”。故填to see。 【45题详解】 考查表语从句。句意:关于西溪湿地,唯一能说的是,如果你没有见过它们,你就没有真正见过杭州。分析可知,“____10____ if you haven’t seen them, you haven’t really seen Hangzhou”为“is”的表语从句,从句结构和句意完整,用“that”作连接词。故填that。 第四部分 写作(共两节;满分40分) 第一节(满分15分) 46. 假定你是李华,上周三你们班举行了英文经典名著阅读分享会。请你给英国朋友Chris写一封邮件分享这次活动,内容包括: 1. 你的分享; 2. 你的感受。 Dear Chris, I’m writing to you about a sharing session of reading English classics we held last Wednesday. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Chris, I’m writing to you about a sharing session of reading English classics we held last Wednesday. Also, I analyzed the social values, humanity and culture that the book had reflected. This experience made me realize the importance of reading English classics. By sharing our reading experience we can broaden our horizons! Yours, Li Hua 【解析】 【导语】本篇书面表达属于应用文,要求考生给英国朋友Chris写一封邮件分享上周三班级举行的英文经典名著阅读分享会活动。其内容包括:你的分享和你的感受。 【详解】1.词汇积累 热情地:enthusiastically→passionately 最近:recently →lately 并且:also→in addition 重要性:importance→significance 2.句式拓展 简单句变复合句 原句:This experience made me realize the importance of reading English classics. 拓展句:This experience made me realize how important reading English classics is. 【点睛】【高分句型1】 Also, I analyzed the social values, humanity and culture that the book had reflected.(运用了that引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】 By sharing our reading experience we can broaden our horizons!(运用了动名词作介词后宾语) 第二节(满分25分) 47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Bob and I hung out the whole summer, running in the field, swimming in the lake and exploring everywhere joyfully. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 One day Bob took me to a wheelchair basketball game. This became a decisive turning point in my life. The same basketball court and the same excited audience. The only difference was that the players were moving around in their wheelchairs just like I did. They turned around, charging forward and showing their lay-ups nimbly. Amazed at their skill, I kept applauding until the game concluded. Then, Bob said something that was going to change my life forever, “Jack, if they can do it, so can you! Why not reignite your basketball dream?” With Bob’s encouragement, I decided to have a try at my dream. I signed up for a basketball course for the disabled. Every weekend, my teammates and I would practice moving, turning around, passing the ball and shooting in a wheelchair. When Bob watched my game three months later, it was he who kept applauding for my regained basketball skill. Thanks to Bob’s encouragement and my changing attitude, I am now on my way to becoming LeBron James. The only difference is that my version of James is playing in the wheelchair, but by no means confined to it. 词汇激活 行为类 ①结束:conclude/end ②拍手:applaud/clap ③限制在:confine to/be limited to 情绪类 ①兴奋的:excited/thrilled ②吃惊的:amazed/astonished/stunned/shocked 【点睛】【高分句型1】Amazed at their skill, I kept applauding until the game concluded.(运用了until引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】When Bob watched my game three months later, it was he who kept applauding for my regained basketball skill.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句和强调句型) 听力答案: 1-5 BABBC 6-10 CACAB 11-15 BAABB 16-20 CCACA 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
