Busy streets, loud noises, and grey buildings can make city life exhausting and boring.
Finding a solution to these issues might be possible by turning to nature, which can help us feel
calm and refreshed.
Adding plants or colorful designs may make cities more enjoyable to
live in.However, growing plants or covering buildings in paint to test these approaches is
costly and inconvenient. Moreover, studying these phenomena outdoors can be tricky,as many
factors can affect the final results."Measuring pleasure and motivation in natural settings is
extremely hard,"explained Prof.Yvonne Delevoye."Human reactions are sensitive to
environmental changes, such as weather or traffic.Consequently,we used virtual reality to
measure reactions to these factors in a virtual urban space."
The group used virtual reality to make a city setting that felt real. They made two versions:
one with no plants, and another with some green plants. They also introduced colorful patterns
onto a path. Then they invited students to participate in the study.Wearing a VR headset and
walking on the spot, the students spent time exploring the virtual cnvironment.
To find out where the volunteers were looking and for how long, each headset included
an eye tracker.
The researchers found that the students walked more slowly when there was green plants
present in the experiment, and their heart rate increased. They would spend less time looking at
the ground and more time observing their surroundings. These results indicate
a pleasurable experience.Bright color patterns alone did not have quite the same uplifting
effect as the green plants, but they inspired interest and passion of the students
and attracted their stare while increasing their heart rate.
Virtual reality might be a useful resource for urban planners, allowing them to experiment
with different elements in a virtual environment. In the future, the researchers aim to improve
the VR experience to get even better and more precise outcomes.
28.What was the primary reason for using virtual reality in the study?
A.To measure reactions without environmental influence.
B.To prove the superiority of technology over nature.
C.To demonstrate the inconvenience of urban life.
D.To create an entertaining game for students.
29.How did the participants interact with the virtual environment in the study?
A.By walking around a real city.
B.By wearing a headset and walking on site
C.By making use of an eye tracker.
D.By observing through a screen without moving.
30.What does the underlined word "uplifting"most probably mean?

According to reports,three-quarters of all crops around the world depend on pollinating
粉的)insects like bees and butterflies..By pollinating, pollinators(传粉者)enable the production
of seeds.Without them, crop farming can become extremely difficult or costly threatening food
supplies and prices globally.
Research has shown a rapid and consistent decline in pollinator populations.Average
butterfly populations have almost halved since 1991 and bee populations in particular face a
sharp decline.Given the world's growing dependence on these insects,we can only expect the
problem to worsen if no action is taken.
Much has been written about how intensive farming practices the use of chemical pesticides
and pollution are threatening the survival of these helpful insects. To add to the already critical
situation, global warming is contributing significantly to the rapid disappearance of pollinators.
Climate change is a major threat to pollinators, with rising temperatures and increasing
frequency and intensity of extreme weather events affecting the food sources and habitats,on
which pollinators depend for their survival.
Climate change also changes the timing and availability of lowering plants, leading to
mismatches between pollinators and their food sources.A study has found that climate change
has shifted plants'blooming to earlier times and caused certain plants to move to higher areas,
resulting in a decline in pollination.
Another study has found that climate change could lead to a decline in the quality of
nectar(),which is the main food source for many pollinators. As temperatures rise, the sugar
content of nectar decreases, making it less nutritious for pollinators. This leads to a decline in the
health and reproductive success of pollinators,as well as a decline in the pollination of plants.
Needless to say, cutting global emissions is key. It's essential that we continue to advocate
for emission reductions. From country-level to individual businesses, more concrete roadmaps to
net zero are a must.
We must at least minimize,if not prevent, the usage of pesticides(杀虫剂),since these
chemicals are harmful to pollinators and can have a far-reaching effect on pollination as a whole.
32.What does paragraph I try to show?
A.The influence of crop crises.
B.The importance of pollinators.
C.The serious challenges faced by humans.D.The increasing difficulty of crop production.
33.How does the author sound in paragraph 2?
A.Curious.

Grady and his family go camping every summer. As it was becoming hotter, here came the
camping time.
Having planned the camp long, the family finally decided the destination-the Great
National Forest. With food, necessity and cookers loaded onto the car,the family squeezed into
the car.The car door closed;heat was shut outside.
In the car,Jared,Grady's younger brother was playing with a toy dinosaur, making great
noise.Grady's mother talked excitedly with his father. On settling in the car,Grady put on the
earphone and turned on the music. He neither wanted to join his brother nor joined in any talk.
After what seemed to be hours, the car stopped where they headed.Grady threw down his
backpack and slammed the car door.
"This will be a long week,"he said unhappily to no one in particular. He looked around
the campground.Hundreds of tall and green fir trees ()some as tall as church towers,
covered the mountainside like a green carpet. The sun would be setting soon.Grady thought
maybe the heat wouldn't be unbearable. But actually now in the mountain, the hot stickiness of
July was closely attached to him.
Grady hated camping, but it was something his family stuck to every summer. His father
liked cooking over an open fire, telling stories about how to survive things like bear attacks and
bites of bees. His mother and Jared liked to hike and take pictures of animals.Jared had a
collcction of pictures that he had pinned to the walls in his half of their room.Grady thought
they were just scary and proof that Jared was a strange kid.
They set up camp-two tents, one for his parents and one for himself and Jared. While
everyone else started preparing dinner,Grady, looking for some place to cool down, set off for
the nearby stream, which was deep enough to swim in.
