The world is not hungry, but it is thirsty. It seems strange that nearly 3/4 of the earth is covered with water while we say we are short of (短缺) water. Why? Because about 97% of water on the earth is sea water which we can’t drink or use for watering plants directly (直接地). Man can only drink and use the 3% — the water that comes from rivers and lakes. And we can’t even use all of that, because some of it has been polluted (污染).
Now more water is needed. The problem is: Can we avoid (避免) a serious water shortage later on? First, we should all learn how to save water. Secondly, we should find out the ways to reuse it. Scientists have always been making studies in the field. Today, in most large cities water is used only once and then runs to the sea or rivers. But it can be used again. Even if (即使) every large city reused its water, still there would not be enough. What could people turn to next?
The sea seems to have the best answer. There is a lot of water in the sea. All that needs to be done is to get the salt out of the sea water. This is expensive, but it’s already used in many parts of the world. Scientists are trying to find a cheaper way of doing it. So you see, if we can find a way out, we’ll be in no danger of drying up.

A.3/4 of the earth is covered with water

A.3% of water on the earth is in rivers and lakes. B.75% of water on the earth is the sea.
C.97% of the earth is covered with water. D.3% of water on the earth is sea water.
18.From the passage we learn _________.
A.if every city reuses its water, we’ll be in no danger of drying up
B.man can only drink and use about 25% of water on the earth
C.today in most large cities water is used only once
D.water can be used only once
19.To avoid the serious water shortage, which of the following is the most important?
A.Save water and try to make good use of the water in rivers and lakes.
B.Don’t pollute water and keep all rivers and lakes clean.

三、语法填空(10分)
We can’t remember clearly since we started to take our mobiles to dinner table. This happens a lot, 36 (especial) when we eat out. Once a dish comes, instead of 37 (lift) our chopsticks, we take out our mobiles and click. Later, we post the photos onto Weibo or WeChat, waiting to be “liked”. Then we check our mobiles from time to time during the meal, to see whether we get “liked” 38 not. We just cannot leave our mobiles for simply a meal.
Does that sound familiar to you? Do you do that often? If 39 , how do you feel when others do that when having dinner with you? A recent study suggests that what we are used to 40 (do) is not so good. Spending time taking photos of food makes the food less pleasant. To test this, some researchers did an experiment. Some people were asked to take photos before they could enjoy food. 41 a result, it showed that the 42 (many) photos they took, the less delicious the food was to them. So why not 43 (stop) taking photos and just enjoy the food in front of you?
So, next time you go out to have dinner with your family or friends, how about not 44 (take) photos of food? Let the food be delicious as it is and share your life with people 45 you. Trust me, it will be a wonderful time.

The most creative homework I’ve ever done
Doing English homework helps us to practice and use what we’ve learned in class. Doing creative homework makes us more interested in English.
Once our teacher asked us to write a letter to a foreigner. We were told to introduce the Spring Festival in the letter. It not only helped me improve my written skills but also provided a good chance to spread Chinese traditional culture.
In my opinion, it’s also a good choice to draw mind maps. It helps us to have a better understanding of the lessons. Besides, we can learn to sing English songs, since most of us love singing. In this way, our English as well as hobbies develops. I hope we’ll have more creative English homework in the future.
