T: Good morning,class. Ss: Good morning, Mr./Ms.... T: Nice to meet you. Ss: Nice to meet you,too. T:Welcome back! 2.Revision. Check the homework. Have a dictation of the key words and phrases in this unit. Step II Presentation 1.Teach activity 2a. This part is designed to make preparations for the reading. First, lead students to read the instructions to know what to do in this activity and how to do it. Then, the class divide into groups of four to talk about Christmas as they know and create a mind map. Encourage them to speak as much as possible. Later, invite some students to give their opinions. 2.Teach activity 2b. This part is designed to train students' reading skill by talking about the spirit of Christmas. First, ask students to read the title of the pas-sage. T: What do you think the text is about? The students' answers may vary. Then, lead students to have a look at the reading strategy in the box. Inferring means we have to“read between the lines" to get the meanings. Later, give studentsseveral minutes to read the passage. Ask them to read the passage using infer-ring,get the main idea while reading and underline some difficult words and phrases. Call attention to the pronunciation and intonation. After that, invite four students to read the passage,each one for a paragraph. Correct their pronunciation mistakes if any. Invite three volunteers to give the answers to each question. T: What are the common things that people think of for Christmas? S1: They are gifts, Christmas trees and Santa Claus. T:Who wrote A Christmas Carol? S2:Charles Dickens. T: What is the true meaning or spirit of Christmas? S3: The importance of sharing and giving love and joy to people around us. Finally, lead students to read the passage, and explain some difficult language points. Please remind me to attend the meeting on Friday. 这几天我太忙了,请提醒我星期五去开会。 (6)dead是形容词,表示状态,常作表语或定语。 The dog is dead. 那条狗死了。 They found many dead birds on the beaches. 在海滩上,他们发现了很多死鸟。 die是动词,表示动作,作谓语。 He died two years ago. 他两年前去世了。 death是名词,作主语或宾语。 He is afraid of death.他怕死。 注意:die是非延续性的动词,不能和表示一段时间的状语连用。如“他去世两年了”不能说成“He has died for two years."或“He has died since two years ago.”而要说“He has been dead for two years." Step III Practice 1.Teach activity 2c. This activity is designed to help students to understand the passage better. First, lead students to read the instructions and have a quick look at the chart to know what to do in this activity and how to do it. Then,give stdents several minutes to read the passage again and fill in the chart. Later,check the answers together. T: What does Scrooge see when he's with the Ghost of Christmas Past? S1: He sees his happier days as a child. T:What does Scrooge see when he's with the Ghost of Christmas Present? S2:He sees others are spending Christmas, and everyone is happy, even poor people. T: What does Scrooge see when he's with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come? S3: He sees he is dead, but nobody cares. 2.Teach activity 2d. This activity is designed to check students' com-prehensive skill. First, ask students to read the passage again and find out the answers to the questions individually. As they work, move around to check their pro-gress. After that, invite six pairs of students to ask and answer each question to check their work. Correct mistakes if any. Answers: 1.Because he just cares about whether he can make more money. 2. No, because he is mean and only thinks about himself. 3.Because he was mean and not friendly to others. 4. Yes, he does. Because he warns Scrooge to change his ways. 5. He feels scared, so he decided to change his life and promises to be a better person. 6. He happily celebrates Christmas with his rela-tives. He also gives gifts to people in need. He now treats everyone with kindness and warmth, spreading love and joy everywhere he goes. 3.Teach activity 2e. This activity is designed to develop students'imagination and speaking skill. First, lead students to read the instructions to know what to do in this activity and how to do it. Then, the class divide into groups of four to make a conversation between the three ghosts and Scrooge. Encourage them to speak loudly and freely. As they work, move around the classroom chec-king the progress and offering assistance as needed. Finally,invite each group to act out for the class. Choose the best group and praise the group members. Step IV Consolidation 1.Teach activities 3a & 3b. This part aims to help students consolidate the target language by writing practice. First, lead students to read the instructions and have a quick look at the given information in the box to know what to do in this part and how to do it. Then, have students work individually. They need to make some notes about the festival they like best. After that, they should write a letter to their pen pal to describe the festival using the notes and the tips in 3b. practice. As they work, move around the classroom chec-king their progress. Finally, invite several students to read their letters. Correct mistakes if any and praise the student who does best. 2.Self Check. This section is designed to help students to check their learning efficiency by themselves. Give students enough time to finish this part.Ask them to do it carefully and individually. Later, ask some students to give the answers.
