A
Arches(拱门)National Park
Why Go to Arches National Park
A trip to Arches National Park is like visiting another planet with thousands of natural sandstone arches, red rocks and amazing landscapes, as well as light that seems to change all the time. The way the shadows(阴影)pass through the arches makes the park particularly attractive for photographers.
Sitting 5 miles northwest of Moab, Utah, the park has 26 miles of scenic road and hikes for every level of fitness.
Best Months to Visit
The best time to visit Arches National Park is from April to May and from September to October. In summer, temperatures can go beyond 100 degrees, making exploring the park very uncomfortable. In late summer, violent storms often cause flash floods, which can be quite dangerous. Winter is a good time for sightseeing, with fewer crowds, but occasional snow and ice can make the paths wet, smooth and therefore easy to fall on. However, the visitor center is open daily.
What to Eat
There are no restaurants or hotels in Arches National Park, so you need to bring your own food or plan to eat in neighboring Moab, Utah, about 5 miles from the park entrance. There are several picnic areas in the park, so plan ahead if you want to eat with Arches as the background.
Getting Around Arches National Park
The best way to get around Arches National Park is by car. There is no public transport inside Arches National Park. Visitors can also ride bikes in the park, but there are no bike lanes or shoulders, so this is more of an option for experienced cyclists.
21. What may visitors do at Arches National Park?
A. Have dinner in restaurants. B. Take some photographs.
C. Learn about another planet. D. Stay in the hotel for a few days.
22. What is a disadvantage of visiting the park in winter?
A. The risk of falling. B. The danger of flash floods.
C. The crowds of tourists. D. The shutdown of the visitor center.
23. Where is this text probably taken from?
A. A travel journal. B. A geography book.
C. A tourism website. D. An academic article.

In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift . On receiving it, I jumped on my bike, headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its beauty. Rushing home, I put the spent film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, desperate to see how it would come out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing.
As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change.
I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me.
The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I've taken. To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.
24. What did the author think of taking photos as a young boy?
A. Inspiring and practical. B. Tiring yet delightful.
C. Exciting and worthwhile. D. Difficult yet engaging.
25. Why did the author stop taking photos according to paragraph 2?
A. He wanted to focus on his work. B. He was struck by sudden sorrow.
C. He attempted to behave like an adult. D. He was faced with increasing pressure.

A. More fun in the daily routine. B. New journeys in the wild.
C. Better skills of observation. D. Different styles of photography.

A. Revisiting Lost Childhood Memories B. Appreciating Beauty Behind the Lens
C. Escaping Teenage Sadness with Camera D. Regaining Pleasure Through Photography
C 25. D 26. A 27. D

根据文章第一段中“I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing. (那时我拍了很多照片,当你冲洗你的胶卷时,你会得到彩色照片,这一事实让我很高兴,它冻结了那些珍贵的时刻,温柔地鼓励了我的爱好和为冲洗而支付的费用。)”可推断,对于作者小时候拍照这件事,作者觉得这是令人兴奋且值得的。故选C。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. (这些年来不断增长的压力把相机从我的枕头旁推到了角落里的盒子里。)”可知,作者面临的压力越来越大,这使得作者停止了拍照。故选D。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段中的“Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me. (即使一天很满很忙,我也能抓住一些时间给自己拍照,观察周围的世界。)”和第四段中的“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight. (对我来说,这个房间代表了我是如何找到幸福的:通过重新连接我搁置的年轻的自己,通过在我的生活中为快乐留出空间,通过创造一个允许快乐机会的环境。)”可知,作者通过重新开始拍照,在繁忙的日程中获得了乐趣。故选A。
通读全文,尤其是最后一段中的“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.
C
William Lindesay, a famous Great Wall expert and conservationist, and his wife Wu Qi have traveled the globe by the back paths, providing their sons with a unique growing environment. Sun hats, backpacks and sneakers (运动鞋)—these are the day-to-day must-haves for the family.
Most of their trips seem far from relaxing—cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow.
Many assume the family must be wealthy and can afford their global travel, but they are not. Lindesay says they just choose to spend money on travel and eschew pricey hotels and restaurants where possible. Lindesay mentions the trip to Moscow as an example. Instead of taking a taxi from the railway station to the hotel, they took the subway. “We crossed the city for saving money, communicated with local people, and saw they are people just like us, everywhere. We arrived at our destination feeling comfortable.”
However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent with their children’s schooling. Wu remembers once Lindesay let their elder son ask for leave so that they could go to New York for a 45-day lecture tour. Therefore the son missed his final exam. Things like that bother the family all the time.
Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. “You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,” he says.
28. How can we describe the Lindesays’ trips?
A. Pleasant. B. Challenging. C. relaxing. D. Dangerous.
29. What does the underlined word “eschew” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Avoid. B. Visit. C. Compare. D. Evaluate.
30. What problem does the family meet when traveling?
A. They suffer from a tight budget. B. They have scheduling conflicts.
C. They are faced with language barriers. D. They hold different educational ideas.
31. Which statement may Lindesay agree with according to the text?
A. Nothing is so necessary for travelers as languages.
B. There is no royal road to learning.
C. Actions speak louder than words.
D. Man who travels far knows more.
B 29. A 30. B 31. D
根据第二段“Most of their trips seem far from relaxing—cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow.(他们的大多数旅行似乎都不是轻松的——在炎热干燥的沙漠中进行文化研究,在新西兰徒步旅行53公里,在英国的三座山顶上攀登一天,从北京到莫斯科坐六天的火车)”可推知,他们的很多旅行是具有挑战性的。
根据画线词上文“Many assume the family must be wealthy and can afford their global travel, but they are not. Lindesay says they just choose to spend money on travel. 故选A。
根据第四段的“However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent with their children’s schooling.(然而,他们的旅行可能持续数周或数月,有时与孩子的学校教育不一致)”可知,他们在旅行中遇到的问题是旅行的时间和孩子上学时间的冲突。
根据最后一段“Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. “You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,” he says.(林赛非常重视课堂外的学习,他说孩子们可能在学校考试中取得好成绩,但到外面旅行,在遥远的地方,在不同的语言、文化和政治结构中,才是真正的考验。“你只能在街上获得街头智慧。只有在见识了世界之后,你才能变得善于处事。”)”可推知,林赛会认同“读万卷书不如行万里路”这一观点。故选D。

The Summer Olympics in Paris is always impressive, but 2024 promised something extraordinary even before the games began — the seats you are sitting on! Made from locally recycled plastic, these seats are sustainability (可持续性) champions in their own right.
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics made history in terms of sustainability, as 11,000 stadium seats made entirely of recycled plastic are used during the water sports. The plastic used for the seats was collected from recycling bins in the Seine-Saint-Denis neighborhood, and 80% of the 100 metric tons needed for the seats came from this area. The collected plastic was cut and torn into small pieces, processed and turned into new material by a local recycling firm called Le Pavé.
After the base materials are produced into plastic seats with different colors, the seats have gone through numerous tests, including mechanical resistance, fire resistance, as well as UV resistance. The recycled plastic chairs proved to be strong and durable, with producers reporting no problems in the production process.
The use of recycled plastic seats is part of Paris and France’s commitment to sustainability, with the goal of reducing downstream emissions (排放) by 50% compared to the 2012 and 2016 games. Additionally, the city is working to fight against environment worsening by making the Seine River swimmable for the first time in decades, in an effort to host the triathlon (铁人三项) there.
The recycled plastic seats not only promote sustainability but also raise awareness about waste recycling, with children being encouraged to throw their plastic bottles into appropriate bins. The Paris Olympics’ use of recycled plastic seats demonstrates the potential of a circular economy, where waste is repurposed and reused, ultimately reducing the amount of plastic waste in landfills and oceans.
32. What is special about the seats for the 2024 Paris Olympics?
A. They won the championship in a competition. B. They are made with a mix of plastic types.
C. They are made from recyclable plastic. D. They are produced from local raw materials.
33. Where was the plastic for the seats mostly collected from?
A. Recycling firms. B. Local recycling bins.
C. All over France. D. International suppliers.
34. What does the numerous tests mainly show in paragraph 3?
A. The advantages of the seats. B. The production process of the seats.
C. The difficulty of producing the seats. D. The significance of the plastic seats.
35. What is one of the goals of using recycled plastic seats at the Paris Olympics?
A To create continued economic growth. B. To reduce energy consumption.
C. To attract more attention to the games. D. To contribute to environmental efforts.
C 33. B 34. A 35. D

A few years ago, the company I worked for sent my wife and me to live in New York for a year.
I’ve always loved running, so I was really happy when I found out I lived next to Central Park. It meant that every morning I could go for a run before I went to work. Because a lot of people had told me to be careful of robbers in the park, so usually I didn’t take anything with me. How could they rob me if I didn’t have anything?
But one morning, my wife gave me a $10 bill and asked me to buy some bread on the way. It was a beautiful morning and the park was quiet with very few people walking or jogging around. While I was running through the park, another jogger knocked into me. He apologized and continued running. For a while, I didn’t think too much of it. However, when I noticed the wide path where I was running, I thought it was kind of strange. The warning of robbers in the park occurred to me. “It could have been a robber!” I suddenly became alarmed, so I checked my pocket and found that the money was missing. Without thinking twice, I ran after that jogger. I finally caught up and held him by the arm. I shouted, “Give me the $10 bill! Now!” I am not usually a hot-headed (性急的) person, but I got really angry this time. I couldn’t believe the robbery was actually happening to me. Filled with anger, I shook my fist at him. This seemed to frighten him. He quickly put his hand in his pocket and gave me the money. Then he ran away as fast as he could.
I bought the bread and went home. As soon as I got home, I couldn’t wait to tell my wife my story. “You won’t believe what happened to me,” I started with pride. She immediately stopped me, “I know, you left the money for the bread on the kitchen table.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Looking at the money on the table, I stood there, shocked.
____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
For several days, I waited at the same place.
____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Looking at the money on the table, I stood there, shocked. For the rest of the day, I felt extremely guilty, with the innocent jogger and his “helplessness” on my mind. How could I be so rude to him without knowing the truth? Why was it that the jogger gave me the money? I still remember his frightened face when I scared him away like a monster. I decided to find a chance to apologize to him. The next morning, I got up and went to the park as usual, but not for jogging. I just hung around where I met that jogger, but in vain.
For several days, I waited at the same place. But to my disappointment, he didn’t turn up. It was almost a week later before I finally spotted him again. I, the “robber”, gave the $10 bill back to him and said sorry to him again and again. Fortunately, he forgave me for what I had done to him and said, “Oh, it doesn’t matter.” Many years have passed, but I can still feel my cheeks burning with shame. From the experience I have learned that it is too early to judge a person before you know the truth.

A
Arches(拱门)National Park
B

A. To create continued economic growth. B. To reduce energy consumption.
C. To attract more attention to the games. D. To contribute to environmental efforts.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Looking at the money on the table, I stood there, shocked.
