Writing a notice
Your school is going to have a fire drill on Friday next week. As a member of the Students’Union, you are going to write a notice about the fire drill according to the fire drill plan.

(3)Don’t use the lifts.
(4)Evacuate the building even if the alarm stops.
(5)Don’t return to the building until instructed to do so.

Understanding Culture
SOS is the worldwide emergency signal. If there is a safety hazard when sailing in the ocean, people will send out the SOS signal. Upon receiving the signal, the nearby ships would rush to the accident site to rescue the victims.
Many people think that “SOS” is an acronym of three English words. Some people think it is “Save Our Souls” ; some people explain it as “Save Our Ship”.
In fact, “SOS” is the international Morse code distress signal, not an abbreviation of any words. Maritime disasters frequently occurred at earlier times. The inability to send out signals in time and organise the fastest rescue resulted in a lot of casualties and property losses. In 1908, “SOS” was officially determined as the international common maritime distress signal.
