Ss: It’s sunny and warm.
T: That’s great! Do you like this kind of weather? Why or why not?
2. Show some pictures of different weather conditions on the PPT and ask students to guess the weather.
T: Look at this picture. What’s the weather like?
Ss: It’s rainy.
T: Good job! Now, let’s move on to the next one.
Step 2: Presentation (10 minutes)
1. Review the key words and phrases by playing a word game. Divide the class into groups and give each group a set of cards with the words and phrases related to the weather. The groups need to match the words with the correct pictures as quickly as possible.
2. Present the sentence patterns “It’s + adjective + (for sb.) + to do sth.” and “What’s the weather like...? It’s...” on the PPT and explain their usage with some examples.
T: Look at this sentence: “It’s cold to go swimming in winter.” Can you understand the meaning?
Ss: It means that it’s too cold to swim in winter.
T: Excellent! Now, let’s look at another one: “What’s the weather like in Beijing? It’s sunny.” Who can make a similar sentence?
S1: What’s the weather like in Shanghai? It’s cloudy.
T: Well done!
Step 3: Practice (15 minutes)
1. Do some exercises on the PPT to consolidate the knowledge. Students need to choose the correct answers or complete the sentences.
2. Ask students to work in pairs and have a conversation about the weather in different cities. They can use the sentence patterns and the words and phrases they have learned.
S1: What’s the weather like in Harbin?
S2: It’s very cold. It’s minus ten degrees.
S1: How about in Guangzhou?
S2: It’s warm and sunny.
3. Invite some pairs to present their conversations in front of the class and give them feedback.
