Step 1:Getting Ready (10mintues)
Reading skills: skimming and scanning.
Skimming:
get the rough idea;
pay attention to the title, topic sentences and key words, for example
Scanning: get the detail information;
first read the questions and underline key words in the questions;
then scan the passage and find the key words
【Aim】Check if the students understand the skimming and scanning reading skills since they have learned them by watching the micro-course in advance. Explain when necessary.
Step 2: Reading –passage A (35 minutes)
Pre-reading
Task - Describe the pictures of “11 11”, leading to the topic of Singles’ Day or online shopping Day.
Scaffolding:
What do you know about Nov. 11?
What festival? Is that an official festival?
What will take place online on Nov.11?
Why could Chinese Singles’ Day be so popular?
While-reading
Skimming: Read the statements on activity 1 (on students’ books)
Underline the key information on the passage and match the main idea for each paragraph.
Scanning: Read the statements and underline the key expressions on activity 2 (on students’ books), then scan the passage and find the key words or expressions.
Finish exercises 1 & 2. (on students’ books)
Check answers.
Post-reading
Discussion Task in pairs: Is the term/logo “Double 11” a registered trademark? Could it be used by others? What would happened if it were used by others without the authorization from Alibaba group?

Fast reading-Skimming: Read the statements on activity 1 (on students’ books)
Match the characters and their activities according to the passage.
Close reading-Scanning and Drawing: Read the questions, scan the passage and find out the keys, and draw the mind-map according to the keys.
Post-reading Task- Make a list of your contributions on preventing or controlling Covid-19 and compare the items with those of your partners’.
