(二)信息选择。阅读下面的三篇短文, 根据短文内容, 从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D 四个选项中, 选择最佳选项。 B Maggie, Travis and Lucy’s science teacher set a special test for them. They had to work out different kinds of problems within limited time to get out of a locked room. For the past hour, Maggie, Travis and Lucy had been locked inside a room decorated like a mad scientist’s laboratory. Together they decoded (破译) a secret language and solved a difficult maths problem. The last challenge, however, stopped them. The key to the door was trapped in a block of ice. “We have to melt (融化) the ice ,” Lucy said. “But there’s nothing hot here!” Maggie complained. Travis pulled off his sweatshirt and wrapped (裹) it around the ice. “This keeps me warm,” he reasoned. A few minutes passed by, but the ice didn’t melt. “Isn’t cloth an insulator (隔热材料)?” Lucy asked. She tried to remember what she had learned in science class. “Heat always flows from warm objects to cold ones. The heat in the air will finally melt the ice, but we need to find something that will help heat move from the air to the ice more quickly.” “What about glass?” Maggie asked. “Glass is also an insulator. It keeps heat from moving,” Lucy said. Then she noticed a large metal tray (金属托盘) across the room. “This might work!” Lucy put the block of ice onto the tray. Everybody’s eyes moved between the    clock and the ice. Would they be able to free the key in time? At last, the key lay in the water on the tray. The three friends rushed out of the room in the last minute.     “We made it!” Travis cheered. “Good thing you learned in science class!” 24.What’s the last challenge in the special test? A.Decorating the laboratory. B.Taking out the key trapped in the ice. C.Solving a maths problem. D.Learning a secret language. 25.Why did Travis pull off his sweatshirt? A.He thought his sweatshirt could help melt the ice. B.He felt’ so hot that he took the sweatshirt off. C.He wanted to leave the sweatshirt in the room. D.He disliked his sweatshirt. 26.What did the three friends learn from the test? A.The meaning of saving time. B.The ways of finding keys to the door. C.The value of knowledge learned in class. D.The importance of solving maths problems. C Self-control is a skill that children need to succeed in school, socially and emotionally. The development of self-control begins at birth and continues throughout our lives. As babies, we have little or no control over our behaviors and emotions, but as we get older, with the help of parents or caregivers, we learn how to take turns, how to pay attention in class, stick to a challenging task, and restrain(制止) from hitting another child. These abilities continue to develop in our childhood and then youthhood. Also, it is clear that being impulsive(易冲动的) can have bad effects on children, causing interpersonal problems, poor physical health, and psychiatric disorders. Therefore, by learning self-control, children can make right decisions and respond to situations in positive ways. One of the effective strategies, when helping children develop self-control abilities, is to select developmentally proper tasks. Try setting up simple goals first, where success is expected, before moving onto the next goal. For preschoolers, goals might include not interrupting or not fighting on the playground. For early elementary school students, right goals might be following bedtime rules. However, it’s not enough to set up simple goals, because for children of the same age, there are still some differences in the development of self-control abilities. Some general strategies often help them learn right self-control behaviors. •Take a break Encourage children to take a break or “time in” whenever they feel down, annoyed or angry. Stepping away from an upsetting situation can help a child calm down. •Teach and provide attention Paying attention is a skill that can be taught. Encourage children to resist interrupting by learning to observe others without talking, so they can join in easily. Make sure to provide children with attention at times so they don’t feel ignored and therefore are unlikely to interrupt. •Use proper rewards(奖励) In order to develop positive behaviors, children need frequently positive feedback. Praise and consistent feedback can be highly rewarding for young children. It is important to let a child know what a desired behavior is. •Use activities designed to teach self-regulation(自我管理) Using specific activities can help teach young children skills that improve self-control. Some of these skills include dealing with “wanting something I can’t have”, understanding feelings, and controlling anger. 27.What can we learn from Paragraph 1 ? A.As people get older, their attention will improve naturally. B.Being impulsive can often cause bad results in children’s grades. C.Children can learn how to control themselves with the help of parents. D.Self-control development begins at birth and keeps growing till youthhood. 28.What can teachers do when students feel very disappointed? A.Teach and provide attention. B.Give rewards and suggestions. C.Teach skills to regulate themselves. D.Encourage them to take a break. 29.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A.Time Waits for No Man — The Development of Self-Control B.Have Power over Your Mind — Tips on Developing Self-Control C.Prevention Is Better than Cure — Rules of Self-Control Behaviors D.Think Twice Before You Act — The Importance of Self-Control Skills D Think back to when you were in a classroom, and the teacher set a difficult problem. Which of the two following responses is closer to the way you reacted? A B Oh no, this is too hard for me. I’m not even going to seriously try and work it out. Ah, this is a little difficult but I like to have a try. Maybe I’ll learn something when trying. The psychologist (心理学家) Carol Dweck of Stanford University, did a test by giving some ten-year-old children problems that were a little hard for them. Group 1, who chose B, reacted positively, said they loved challenges and understood that their abilities could be developed. Professor Dweck says they had a “growth mindset (思维模式)”. And they cared more about what they can achieve in the future. However, group 2, who chose A, felt that their intelligence was being judged and they had failed. They had a “fixed mindset” and were unable to imagine improving. Some of these children said they might cheat in the future and look for someone who were worse than them, just to make themselves feel good. Professor Dweck believes that there is a problem in education. For years, teachers have praised children for their intelligence and talent. But this makes them get hurt easily from failure. They become performance-oriented (i. e. interested in getting high grades, not learning). The right way, according to Dweck, is to praise the process that children are involved in: making an effort, using learning strategies (策略) and improving. This way they will become mastery-oriented (i. e. interested in getting better at something) and will achieve more. Psychologists have been testing these theories. Students were taught that if they left their comfort zone and learned something new and difficult, they’d be more intelligent. These students made faster progress than a control group. In another study, children from an underperforming (不佳的) school had trainings on their growth mindset techniques for a year. The results were staggering. They came top in tests, beating children from much better schools. These children had previously felt that making an effort was a sign of stupidity, but they came to see it as the key to learning. So, back to our original question, if you answered B, well done—you already have a growth mindset. If A, don’t worry: everyone is able to become mastery-oriented with a little effort and self-awareness. 30.What can we learn from Carol’s test in Paragraph 2? ________ A.Group 2 cheated in the test. B.Group 1 had good imagination. C.Group 2 felt confident after the test. D.Group 1 liked challenging problems. 31.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about? ________ A.Ways of training children. B.How to deal with challenges. C.Problems in today’s classroom. D.The right and wrong ways of praise. 32.The word “staggering” in Paragraph 4 probably means ________. A.unbelievable B.unchangeable C.disappointing D.frightening 33.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? ________ A.Do you have the right mindset? B.Can you make the right choice? C.Are you using proper strategies? D.Are you really pushing yourself? 第二部分 本部分共5题, 共20分。根据题目要求, 完成相应任务。 四、 阅读表达(共10分, 第1-3题每小题2分, 第4小题4分) Some people say that today reading is not as important as it was. These days we have photographs, films, radio, and television. Why read a description of something when you can look at a photograph? Why read a novel when we can see a film? Why read I a newspaper when the latest news is brought to us every hour on radio and TV? Photography is certainly a wonderful invention. Photographs can give a very clear idea of places and of people that we have never seen. An encyclopedia (百科全书), for example, is always better when it has good pictures. But we also need words to explain the photographs. A photograph of an elephant may give us a very good idea of what an elephant looks like, but it tells us nothing about the different sorts of elephants there are and where they are found, their exact (精确的) size and weight, how they can be useful to man and so on. In the same way, a good film has action, movement, colour, and maybe music. These are things we do not find on the printed page. But reading a novel has certain advantages over watching even an excellent feature film (故事片). Reading a novel requires imagination. Each of us imagines a story differently. Watching news on television can certainly be exciting. But we need newspapers as well. Some important news stories happen when there are no cameras around. More importantly, a newspaper does not just report the news. It explains why something has been happening. It also contains interesting articles on different subjects. Newspapers are an important part of our lives, if we want to understand what is going on in the places we live as well as in other parts of the world. Reading is very important for information and pleasure. We need to be good readers to enjoy a full life as human beings. Reading is a skill and like other skills, it needs practice. The more we read, the better readers we become. And the better readers we become, the more we enjoy reading! The secret is to get the reading habit. Read at least a little every day. 34.Why some people say reading is not as important as it was? 35.What can photographs give people? 36.What are the advantages of a novel over a feature film? 37.Why is reading important? What do/will you do to practice reading? 提示词语:rubbish, do cleaning, poster, plastic bag 提示问题: ● When and where will you hold the activity? ● What will you do in the activity? ● What can Tony prepare for it?
