Passage1 阅读理解(2023·新课标Ⅱ卷·B)
说明:文中的加黑词汇和加线句子将在后文中提到。以下各语篇
同,不再一一说明。
Turning soil, pulling weeds, and harvesting cabbage sound like
tough work for middle and high school kids. And at first it is,says
Abby Jaramillo, who with another teacher started Urban Sprouts,a
school garden program at four low-income schools. The program aims to
help students develop science skills, environmental awareness, and
healthy lifestyles.
Jaramillo’s students live in neighborhoods where fresh food and
green space are not easy to find and fast food restaurants outnumber
grocery stores. “The kids literally come to school with bags of snacks
and large bottles of soft drinks,” she says. “They come to us
thinking vegetables are awful, dirt is awful, insects are awful.”
Though some are initially scared of the insects and turned off by the
dirt, most are eager to try something new.
Urban Sprouts’ classes,at two middle schools and two high
schools,include hands-on experiments such as soil testing,flower-
and-seed dissection, tastings of fresh or dried produce, and work in
the garden.Several times a year, students cook the vegetables they
grow, and they occasionally make salads for their entire schools.
Program evaluations show that kids eat more vegetables as a result
of the classes.“We have students who say they went home and talked
to their parents and now they’re eating differently,” Jaramillo says.
She adds that the program’s benefits go beyond nutrition. Some
students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to
start their own vegetable gardens.Besides, working in the garden seems
to have a calming effect on Jaramillo’s special education students,
many of whom have emotional control issues.“They get outside,”
she says,“and they feel successful.”

微型写作——续写提升练
阅读下面材料,根据其内容写出最后两段内所空出的四个句
子,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Kuppan was a good badminton player. His rise within the ranks of
the badminton players of the school was impressive but unusual. One
day he was nothing and the next day he was a member of the school
team.
In the School Championships, he sprang a surprise by knocking
out the top seed, Richard Lee, in the semi-final. In the final, he
easily beat another competitor Abdul Rauf 15∶3 and 15∶10. He was
the School Champion. It was unbelievable. The previous year he did not
even get past the first round while this year he was the champion.
Success got into his head. He began to think he was really good. In
fact, he arrogantly (傲慢地) told Richard Lee and the others that
they would never beat him. He claimed he was simply too good for them in a league of his own.
Well, it was true that Kuppan was a good and skillful player. He
had natural ability and talent. So he picked up the game very quickly and soon became the best. However, he did not realize that nobody can remain at the top all the time. What goes up must certainly come down. Kuppan thought he could stay up indefinitely.
The other players were annoyed by Kuppan’s declaration. They
decided to train harder to beat the guy who had insulted (羞辱) them.
They even trained on their own every day while Kuppan wandered
around talking with pride about his success. The State Individual
Championships were coming up, so was the Interschool Tournament.
The school’s coach worked hard to improve the school players. All of
them trained hard, except Kuppan. He would miss training or perform
half-heartedly. He was more interested in entertaining the admirers that
gathered around him. He thought he was too strong to be defeated.
The State Individual Championships reached us in time. ①
It would not take long to finish the first round, he
thought. The moment the first service was played, Kuppan found it
was not going to be as easy as he had thought. He had great trouble
performing his shots. After ten minutes on the court, he was sweating
and out of breath. He looked washed out and listless. ②
At
7:30, Kuppan stepped onto the court confidently to meet his unknown
competitor.
A couple of
minutes later he lost the first round by 9:15.
Kuppan tried to make a difference in the second round. ③
Kuppan was defeated in the second
round by 1-15. It was a great shame for him. He could not believe it but
there it was. The next day the coach told Kuppan he had been dropped
from the school team for the coming Interschool Tournament. Kuppan
realized how foolish he had been. He finally knew that pride comes
before a fall. He learned this lesson in a hard and painful way. ④
His
competitor was simply too strong.
He
would not like to repeat this ever again.

Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
(2023·辽宁省名校联考)It is becoming more apparent now that
students do more online learning than they ever had before. There are
plenty of ways that educators can use technology to create online lessons and deliver instruction remotely.
You may think that the only way to run an online class is
synchronously through web conferences in the same way that physical
learning does—with all of the students and the teacher present at the
same time. In most cases, that won’t be very practical, since the
probability that all of the learners and the educator are all together with
live, stable Internet connections is relatively low.
The most crucial thing to keep in mind is that online learning does
not need to take place at the same time as online teaching. You create a
course in your Learning Management System (LMS) to be a series of
modules (模块). Then you ask your learners to take the modules one
after another, because each builds on the last. Each module may be a
video that you created regarding the content, accompanied by a PDF, some relevant documents and third-party links, etc. Learners can log in to the virtual classroom whenever they want, even during the early hours of the morning, to access each module in the order you have designed. You can also lay out some essential rules for the course, like the frequency and types of assessments and more.
As far as I’m concerned, while most of the time online learning
saves the learning cost and provides diverse studying materials and
instruction from educators, allowing your learners the freedom to do
their coursework according to their schedules is what makes online learning distinctive. It helps boost engagement, teach your learners how to plan for themselves and be responsible, and improve their overall lives.

One Alabama school was extremely creative in encouraging students to read more and to help improve the school district’s literacy. They added an Inchy’s BookwormTM Vending Machine, which allows students to add a special coin and get a brand new book.
Sixth-grade reading teacher Kristy White said students have been
inspired to earn coins so they can get a new book. Every classroom has
coins, and students can earn them by improving in their reading or math skills or exhibiting good behavior.
Kristy said it only takes one coin to use the machine. Nice! What’s even nicer is there are books for all grade levels and students even make suggestions for titles they’d like to see available. Funding for the vending machine came from community support through donations and grants.
Lucy Williamson was the first student to use the machine. The
sixth-grader said she can see the growing excitement of her fellows and
she looks forward to getting even more books.“This has some different
books that the library doesn’t have and I’m able to keep the book longer
because it’s mine so I have more time to read it,” Lucy said. She also
shared that she rereads books often,so being able to choose a book that
she can take home is a real plus.
Beyond reading, the vending machine has also encouraged students to behave better. And when a student gets a coin, everyone celebrates the win. “The students are thrilled when they are the students who get the coin that week. They come down here and other students cheer for them,” Kristy said.
We’re cheering for them, too! This is such a unique way to
motivate students. Reading is so fundamental that it really serves as the
foundation for all other learning. This vending machine is just one way
to help students succeed.
