Cameron Patterson, a British student, spent his childhood in China. He has seen many great changes in the country over the past 15 years, especially trains.
At the age of 8, Patterson moved from Wales to join his father in Shanxi. In the following years, he and his parents lived in a few cities. They also travelled a lot during holidays. However, they took the old green train and spent one and a half days on the trip.
Now with high-speed train, life become much easier. Long and boring trips in the past have become shorter. Also, the modern trains are more comfortable. “A coin (硬币) wouldn’t move at all on the table of a fast moving train.” He said excitedly.
Patterson was glad to see these changes in China, but he also wondered how they happened. When he read a poem about China’s role model (榜样) Jiao Yulu in 2015, he got the answer. Jiao was seriously ill at that time, but still kept working to help people till the end of his life. Jiao devoted (献身) himself to improving people’s life. “He was really great. I learn a lot from him.” said Patterson.
Patterson now works as a Confucius Institute volunteer at Lancaster University. “I’m proud to act as a bridge between the UK and China and help the two peoples know about each other’s cultures better.”

If music makes you smart and exercise helps you to think, surely exercising to music can turn you into a person who is better at learning and understanding.
A team of scientists from a university did research on 33 volunteers They found that people who exercised while listening to Italian musician Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons did much better in language ability test than without music.
The volunteers said they felt better after exercising with or without the music. But their improvement on the test doubled after listening to the music during exercise. “Exercise seems to cause great changes in the nervous system (神经系统) and have a direct result on learning ability,” said the scientist Charles Emery. Scientists have found that music can be good for health and education. It helps relieve stress, sadness and nervousness, wakes up the body and improves memory and thoughts.
Scientists have been using Mozart’s music, especially his violin pieces, to help disabled children. Mozart is often chosen because his music is not over-exciting. A study showed students who often exercise to Mozart’s music get higher marks. With important exams drawing near, your parents will not probably allow you to listen to music. But perhaps now you have good reasons to argue with them.

Riding a Mobike on the street, you might hear some people speaking Chinese aloud. Turning to the right, you see a Sichuan-style restaurant. After walking into a store, you see that Huawei smartphones are on sale.
But you’re not in China—you’re in Manchester in Britain. In fact, you might see similar things in many other cities. Chinese products have been going global (全球性).
Chinese food has been enjoyed in Western countries for a long time. To meet local people’s tastes, Chinese restaurants have made some changes to the dishes.
“One example is the meat,” said Yin Hang, who is studying at the University of Wollongong in Australia.
“We like to eat meat with the bone in, but people here don’t. Chinese restaurants provide big pieces of meat without bones, even for fish.”
Some Chinese brands are also becoming more popular. In many cities in Europe, stores sell TCL televisions, Haier fridges and Lenovo computers, reported Reuters.
More than half of US-owned drones (无人机) are Chinese models, according to China Daily. They’re not simply made in China, but designed and developed in the country.
In the past, most Western people thought Chinese products were cheap and unreliable. But things have changed greatly. “Made in China” has become cool and more people trust Chinese brands.
For example, Huawei, one of China’s major smartphone makers, behind only Samsung, reported by Consulting Firm Counterpoint Research.
“They are beautiful and offer some unique features (特点) American phones don’t have,” CNN once said about Chinese smartphones.

C. “Made in China” is welcomed all over the world.
D. Apple has lost large ground to Huawei in the world.
①When it comes to Chinese students considering studying in foreign countries, many of them usually believe that life will be easy and enjoyable. Unfortunately, it’s likely that students with those thoughts will be disappointed very soon after landing at the airport.
②So, what are the problems you may have, and how can you deal with them?
③Teaching and learning styles in America are very different from those in China, requiring more critical thinking (批判性思维) and teamwork. In a normal American classroom, one project might be done by a study group in which every person has their own responsibility.
④So don’t worry about your language or any grammar mistakes. Just watch what other students do, and don’t be afraid of asking any questions. The discussions, or sometimes even arguments, that your group members and you hold are likely to be the beginning of a friendship.
⑤Besides schoolwork, another important thing faced by overseas students is homesickness or loneliness. You may miss your parents’ cooking, your pets, especially when faced with the challenges of getting used to a new environment.
⑥What I strongly suggest is to try hard to deal with these feelings. Be open to new friendships. Sign up for school activities, and give yourself permission to enjoy life at school, even if you miss home a lot. Be organized and keep a diary to check your progress. Write down three new things that you’re grateful for every evening, as well as three things you’re looking forward to every morning.
⑦Studying abroad is never simple. In fact, there will be many difficulties every day. But I’m sure you will overcome your difficulties and make your time overseas a success.
49. The article is written for ________.
A. teachers B. parents C. students D. travelers
50. Students in America finish their schoolwork by ________.
A. thinking critically alone B. working in a group
C. watching what others do D. arguing with other students
51 Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The style of teaching and learning in America are very similar to those in China.
B. The discussion or even arguments between you and your group members can lead to a friendship.
C. Faced with the challenges of getting used to a new environment can be a happy feeling.
D. The writer suggests us writing down three new things that we are grateful for every morning.
52. How is the article organized?
A. B. C. D.

4. You can’t wear shoes inside this place. It ________.
A. doesn’t allow B. isn’t allowed
C. hasn’t allowed D. wasn’t allowed
【答案】B
【解析】
【详解】句意:你不能在这里穿鞋。这是不允许。
考查一般现在时的被动语态。根据“You can’t wear shoes inside this place.” 主语“It”是第三人称单数形式,be用is,否定形式为isn’t,allow的过去分词是allowed,即为isn’t allowed。故选B。
5. —Excuse me, sir. Could you please tell me ________ ?

8. —How beautiful the Chinese ink painting is! The paper is thin and light.
—The paper is ________ in Xuanzhou, Anhui. The paper is also called xuan paper.
A. produced B. making C. product D. given

If music makes you smart and exercise helps you to think, surely exercising to music can turn you into a person who is better at learning and understanding.
A team of scientists from a university did research on 33 volunteers. They found that people who exercised while listening to Italian musician Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons did much better in language ability test than without music.

【答案】范文:
I have changed a lot
My time at junior high school has been mostly good. I’ve been at junior high school since 2022. I used to be a bit shy, but my friends and teachers have helped me to me more confident.
In the first year, I made some good friends and had a lot of fun. However, I didn’t do so well in Grades 7 and 8 because I didn’t study hard enough. Fortunately, my friends showed me that education was important for my future, and I began to work harder at school. Now I know that I have the ability to do good work. My reports in Grade 9 were much better than in Grades 7 and 8. I’m very happy because I am no longer at the bottom of the class. Since Grade 9, I think I have become more confident.
