C During my time abroad in college, I traveled to 15 countries in Europe, and it completely changed my life. It changed my view on the world and on my life goals in general. So with that experience, I always knew I wanted to travel more. During school breaks and immediately after graduation, I took three other long backpacking trips around Asia, the Middle East, and Europe again. I realized I had visited 50 countries. My goal was to visit 100 countries by the time I was 30. For whatever reason, I thought that sounded cool. I ended up achieving that goal at about 25. In 2006, I got an email from a friend saying that there was actually a record of the youngest to visit every country in the world. I basically assessed (评价) how long I had to beat the record and where I had to go. Even if I didn’t get the record, it’d still be fun and I’d get to see the whole world. It turns out that it is a great decision, and I have done so much around the world. I became the youngest American to visit every country in 2011 when I was 32 after safely visiting. But like everyone, I needed to make money to fund the travel I wanted, so I got a proper Wall Street job, worked really hard, and did pretty well. But in the summer of 2008, I simply resigned (辞职) my position at a major Wall Street firm. It happened right before the major collapse (倒塌,倒闭) of several major firms, so it made me look smart, but it was purely coincidence (碰巧). I didn’t specifically leave my job to pursue the goal. I left the job because I needed a break after eight years. 8. How many countries did the author visit at the age of 25 or so? A. 15. B. 30. C. 50. D. 100. 9. What can we learn from the second paragraph ? A. The author was satisfied with his decision. B. The author’s friend has ever set a record. C. The author decided to settled down in America. D. The author regretted travelling around the world. 10. What does the author think of his resignation from the major Wall Street firm? A. Upset. B. Lucky. C. Stupid. D. Disappointed. 11. What does the author mainly talk about? A. His study abroad. B. His daily life. C. His travel. D. His career. D Every school has students who stand out for their abilities and their eagerness to learn. In Mexico, a school created a program to work with them. In 2019. both teachers Lotta Andersson and John Rennie got the idea to provide learning opportunities for students with a hunger for knowledge. They are English coordinators (协调员) in the school. “We want to have a program to inspire students who really have the abilities and the interests to learn more and continue accepting challenges,” Andersson said during a recent interview. Students in the program, which was called Learning Challenges, met with the teachers about once a month. Andersson and Rennie would help us choose research topics. We then worked with the teachers to find books, interview subjects and Internet sources, While in Learning Challenges, I gave presentations on European culture and the fashion industry. When asked what skills students had formed in the program, which ended in June 2020because of the limits of a common disease. Andersson said, “They had learned to ask questions, be more open-minded and see things from different angles (角度). Also, they mastered the skills-reflecting more, acting actively, and learning not to put limits on themselves.” A student, Yihane Abed, conducted research on the sun, the moon, stars, planets, etc, while in Learning Challenges. “The skills I developed were teamwork and the ways to do research and give a good presentation,” she said. Andersson and Rennie continue to help students pursue their love of learning. “The program doesn’t exist formally, but as an important part of the culture at school, it is still needed,” Andersson said. “There is much more difference, not only for students who need extra help, but also for those who are higher achievers.” 12. What’s the purpose of creating Learning Challenges? A. To help some students learn more. B. To guide students to work out effectively. C. To raise students’ interest in visiting Europe. D To encourage English students to help others. 13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A. Methods that students used in the program. B. Abilities that students got from the program. C. Difficulties that students met in the program. D. Topics that students selected from the program. 14. Which kind of research did Yihane Abed conduct? A. The universe. B. Teamwork C. At the same time, I went through a noodle shop, and I suddenly felt very hungry. I wished for a bowl of noodles, but I had no money! The seller saw me standing before the counter and asked, “Hey little girl, you want to eat a bowl?” “But … but I do not carry money …” I shyly replied. “Okay, I’ll treat you.” the seller said, “come in, I will cook you a bowl.” A few minutes later the owner brought me a steaming bowl of noodles. After eating some pieces I cried. “What is it?” He asked. “Nothing. I am just touched by your kindness!” I said as I wiped my tears. “Even a stranger on the street gives me a bowl of noodles, and my mother, after a quarrel, chased me out of the house. She is cruel (残忍的)!!” The seller sighed, “Girl, why did you think so? Think again. I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you felt that way. Your mother has been taking care of you since you were little, why were you not grateful and why did you hurt your mom?” I was really surprised after hearing that. Why did I not think of that? 11 What does the author mainly talk about? A. His study abroad. B. His daily life. C. His travel. D. His career. 8. D 9. A 10. B 11. Every time you have to read a textbook or review for a test, you may start thinking of a million things you’d rather be doing like watching TV.(我们都知道学习很无聊。 【17题详解】 本段的主旨句是首句“Get interested in the topic.(对这个话题感兴趣。)” 前文“To be able to dive into different aspects of any topic, you can’t jump straight into the details.(为了能够深入到任何主题的不同方面,你不能直接进入细节。)” 故选A。 【18题详解】 前文“For example, I have carefully selected some music that can help me focus. Another thing you can try is to go to your favorite coffee shop or your own secret spot in the library when you need to study.(例如,我精心挑选了一些可以帮助我集中注意力的音乐。 后文“You might distract(分散注意) each other.(你们可能会分散彼此的注意力。)”和“Besides, if you have some super-smart study partners, they will do all the homework and then you won’t learn anything.(此外,如果你有一些超级聪明的学习伙伴,他们会做所有的家庭作业,然后你什么都不会学到。)” 后文“Your desire to do a task partly depends on the reward you’ll get for finishing it. Your pre-planned rewards can encourage you to work harder because you know you’ll get something fun after completing it.(你想完成一项任务的欲望在一定程度上取决于你完成任务后会得到什么奖励。 I was 15 years old and hit turbulent (躁动不安的) adolescence. While on the road, I remembered that I did not have any money in my pocket, I did not even take my cell phone with me to make a call home. After eating some pieces, I cried. A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful, and my mother has raised me since I was little and I have never felt so, not even a little. Just at that moment, many memories came back into my mind. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When arriving home, I saw my mother sitting at the dinner table, worried and tired. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Just at that moment, many memories came back into my mind. When I was ill she was always the one taking care of me. When I had trouble with my study, she never lost faith in me and encouraged me to keep going. When I arrived home during the weekend, she always prepared my favourite food. All her kindness came back to me. I should be grateful for all she had done for me. I realized that I should return home immediately and say sorry to my mother. When arriving home, I saw my mother sitting at the dinner table, worried and tired. She must have been looking for me everywhere. I was ready for her anger and shouts. However, before I could apologize, my mother saw me and gently said: “Oh, honey, thank God, you’re back! Come inside. You are probably very hungry? I cooked your favorite noodles, come and eat while they are still hot…” No longer able to control myself, I cried in her arms. “I’m sorry, mom, please forgive me.” I whispered to her through tears, extremely ashamed of myself. 词汇激活(一个词汇要写出相近的表达) 行为类 ①照顾:take care of/look after/tend ②到家:arrive home/get home ③大叫:shout/yell 情绪类 ①感谢:be grateful/showing one’s appreciation/show one’s gratitude ②生气:anger/angry 【点睛】[高分句型1] I should be grateful for all she had done for me.(省略that引导的定语从句) [高分句型2] I realized that I should return home immediately and say sorry to my mother.
