The Adventures of VICTOR in the Forest Story and Illustrations: Jan Ivens English Translation: Sally-Ann Hopwood (PROLINGUA) It's such a lovely day today! Tim decides to visit his friend Victor. "Hey, Victor, would you like to come for a walk with me in the forest?" suggests Tim. "Why not," answers Victor. "That's an excellent idea." Victor gathers a few things together in his rucksack. "Why are you bringing a map?" laughs Tim. "The path is very easy to follow." "You'll see, I know the way very well…" "You don't need to use the map, you know, Victor?" says Tim. "Look, the path is lined with trees and there are signposts." "It's a footpath, you just have to follow the arrows." "Nothing could be easier," adds Tim proudly. He is pleased to show his friend Victor that he knows the way very well. Reassured, Victor follows Tim's footsteps, as he bravely heads off in the direction of the first arrow. The walk begins marvellously. Tim and Victor venture deeper and deeper into the forest. Tim always walks in front so that he is the first to spot the arrows and show the way. Victor finds that Tim is very clever and that he is a good guide. Suddenly, they hear a crack and a tree falls down right beside our two friends with a loud noise. "Be careful!" cries Victor scared. "Too late!" "Ow, ow…" Tim and Victor hear a little scared voice. It's Boris the beaver who rushes up anxiously. "You didn't hurt yourself, I hope?" he asks concerned. But Victor is already clearing the branches away. "Hey," he says surprised. "Why is this tree trunk all gnawed at the bottom?" While Boris helps Victor to free Tim from the branches, Boris tells the whole story. "We are in the middle of work," explains Boris. "We beavers are building a dam here. Look!" He points at it proudly. "My friends are still busy." And unluckily for the trees, we need their trunks for our dam." Tim and Victor observe the beavers at work and even forget to be angry. "Well, in the future, be careful that nobody is there before chopping down a tree," says Victor resuming the path. But nobody noticed that the tree that was felled had an arrow on it. And without realising, our two friends went off in the wrong direction. They continued, but didn't find any more arrows. Tim started to get worried. "Shouldn't we take a glance at your map, Victor?" asked Tim. But not even the map could help them, as the path was not to be found among the footpaths. "Come on," says Victor bravely, "we shouldn't lose heart, we are going to find our path. As soon as we come across somebody, we'll ask them…" The two friends courageously continue walking. Shortly afterwards, they meet a snail. "Hello, snail," says Tim. "Do you happen to know the path with the red arrows?" "Oh, no," replied the little snail, "I never venture that far away." Simon the pigeon can't help them either. "I never follow the paths," he says, "I always fly above the trees." As Tim is tired, Victor carries him on his shoulders. And our two friends continue on their way like that. But Victor is also starting to get tired. That's why they decide to stop to take their breath. "What now?" asks Victor. "It's my fault," says Tim sadly. I should never have set out on this walk. "No," Victor reassures him. "It's not your fault, don't worry, it will all end well…" Suddenly, they hear two voices behind them. "Hey, hello Victor and Tim. What are you doing in the middle of the forest and why do you look so worried?" It's Danny the young fawn. "Hello Danny," says Victor really pleased. "Could you show us the way back?" "I can't," replies Danny, "but my dad can of course, because he knows everything." In fact, dad stag knows the way well. Tim and Victor are relieved. "Come on," says the large stag. "As you are tired, climb on my back and I'll take you back home." Tim and Victor found that very nice. "Now our little walk is really lovely," says Tim very pleased. After a pleasant walk back, our friends find themselves at the edge of the forest. Tim and Victor know the way from there on. Danny and his dad leave them. Tim and Victor are tired but so happy to get back home. What a hectic day they have had! 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
