NO.2
1.Every four years, thousands of highly trained and talented athletes gather together in the spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play, ready to test their abilities against each other in the hope of being recognized as the best of the best.
赏析:本句中用副词highly修饰形容词trained和talented,起到加强语气的作用;两个介词短语in the spirit of及in the hope of简化了表达效果。
2.Motivated by the original Olympic motto “Faster, Higher, Stronger”, many well-known athletes, both male and female, have devoted themselves to achieving sporting excellence and pushing the boundaries of human achievement.

①Let's compete and cooperate on the basis of competition.

as if someone were jumping

2.In addition to hosting the Olympics for the first time, China also ranked first in the medal table.

Like wild swimming, rock climbing involves you into the landscape. On the rock, I am fully present.Eyes pay close attention, ears are alert, and hands move across the surface.Unlike walking, where I could happily wander about absent-mindedly, in climbing, attentive observation is essential.
As an arts student studying English literature, I discovered a new type of reading from outdoor climbing.Going out on to the crags (悬崖), I saw how you could learn to read the rocks and develop a vocabulary of physical movements.Good climbers knew how to map their bodies on to the stone.Watching them, I wanted to possess that skillful language.
My leap happened when I worked for the Caingorms National Park Authority.Guiding my explorations into this strange new landscape was Nan Shepherd, a lady too.Unlike the goal-directed mindset of many mountaineers, she is not concerned with peaks or personal beats.Shepherd sees the mountain as a total environment and she celebrates the Caingorms as a place alive with plants, rocks, animals and elements.Through her generous spirit and my own
wanderings, I saw that rock climbing need not be a process of testing oneself against anything.Rather, the intensity of focus could release a person into another way of being.

Hundreds of extreme sports enthusiasts travel to the Arctic circle in northern Norway each year to surf (冲浪) in freezing conditions. The beaches of the Lofoten Islands are very cold though. Here some surfers explain why they practise their passion (热爱的事物) in these icy waters.
Ellen Holgersen
Living here in Lofoten has been a dream for a long time.I tried living in places where you can surf just outside your doorstep but it was like going to the gym for me, a lot of people and too simple. Here it's more of an expedition (探险) because of the cold.I love the feeling that you have when you come up from the ocean and you're just freezing cold.
Lisa Blom
Surfing is life. It's a must. When you're not surfing there are lots of other things you can do, hike, ski, fish ...Lofoten is like a big playground for grown-ups.Winter surfing is best because the waves are usually bigger.
Inge Weggen
Surfing is freedom. The surroundings here in Lofoten, the mountains, make the whole experience so much bigger because you can have an eagle flying over you and you can look up at the mountains and you take that into that moment when you're surfing.Spring is my favourite time to surf.We get more light and it is nice with the sun.I also love the colder season because that's when you have the best waves.
Ole Kristian Fjelltun-Larsen
The weather doesn't bother me that much.Winter is more challenging. It's like an extreme form of meditation (沉思), with an extreme contact with nature. In winter, you get very tired physically. The body uses a lot of energy to keep warm, but your head gets really relaxed. You calm down and big problems become smaller problems.

Budha Magar, a double above-the-knee amputee (被截肢者), is working with an all-Nepali team to attempt to conquer the world's highest mountain in May.Though he will be kitted out (装备) with special climbing legs, he will essentially be crawling up Qomolangma using his hands.
He estimates it will take him three times longer than able-bodied climbers to reach the summit (顶峰), though he is confident he will be faster than average on the ladder sections because of his superior upper body strength. Two climbers with below-knee amputations have reached Qomolangma's summit before. But making the climb without knees is significantly harder.“In Nepali we say that being disabled is ‘like a burden of the earth’,” he explains.Magar hopes that he can raise awareness of just what is possible for a disabled person in the country of his birth, and hopefully inspire others further afield.
He was born in a village of Nepal, and he left there at the age of 19.In April 2021, he had an accident.Suddenly legless, he spent at least 18 months depressed before a charity offered him the chance to go skydiving.“That was a big turning point for me, especially for my confidence. And when we landed on the ground I realized that even without legs we are able to do lots of things,” he says.
He began doing sports — golf, rock climbing, table tennis — before setting his sights on mountaineering. Before long, a childhood dream to climb Qomolangma resurfaced, and he began training in earnest to make the climb in 2018.
Now living in Canterbury, Budha Magar has raised more than £200,000 towards his attempt. If he can find another £100,000 of sponsorship, he will travel to Nepal in spring with his expedition leader Krishna Thapa.Success on the world's highest mountain can never be guaranteed, but his expedition credo (信条) illustrates his mindset: no legs, no limits.

C
I was speaking to the faculty (全体教师) at John F.Kennedy Elementary School in Canton, Massachusetts, a couple weeks ago.I arrived early and decided to take a walk.
There was a Little League field nearby.I spotted a sign on the fence (围墙).
The sign, posted by the Canton Little League, read:
PLEASE REMEMBER
·These are kids.
·This is a game.
·The coaches volunteer.
·You don't play for the Red Sox (an American professional baseball team).
I had to laugh, especially at the joke about the Red Sox.But I think the sign is a good reminder to everyone connected with youth sports — kids, parents, coaches and the folks who run the leagues — what is important about the games.
First, kids who play are just kids. They are not mini professional athletes. So youth sports leagues and coaches should take it easy on them.Kids don't need long schedules and lots of faraway games or high-pressure tournaments.
Adults should try to set up youth leagues so more kids play with and against kids from nearby schools and neighborhoods. They should make it easier for kids to play a sport for just a few months so that they can try other sports.Kids shouldn't play one sport year-round.
And everyone should stop worrying about which team wins or loses.A friend of mine who coached a lot of youth teams once told me, “When you coach kids, it's not how many you win or lose, but how
many sign up for next season.” According to the Aspen Institute's latest “State of Play” report, fewer kids are signing up.Research indicates a smaller percentage of kids aged 6 to 12 (37 percent) are playing team sports on a regular basis than last year (42 percent).
The aim of youth sports should be to have fun, learn some skills and enjoy being part of a team. When we lose sight of those simple goals, the games suffer, and the kids stay away.
Maybe next year every field or gym where kids play should have a sign like the one in Canton. All you would have to do is change the name of the team.

A.Kids today are less athletic.
B.Fewer youth leagues are being set up.
