【A卷·提升卷】
一、阅读理解
Computers have become smarter in recent months. The AI-powered chatbot (聊天机器人) ChatGPT is able to answer questions, write articles and e-mails like a human. It has created excitement all over the world.
Like most robots, ChatGPT wasn’t made by just one person. Instead, it was developed by a group of engineers at OpenAI. Among them, one man played an especially important role. That man is Jakub Pachocki.
Jakub Pachocki is a programmer. He has been interested in AI for many years. He wants to use this technology to make computers smarter. In 2017, the man joined OpenAI. There he taught a robot to play Dota2, an online game. Pachocki made the robot play against itself over and over until it reached the top level.
Pachocki began working on ChatGPT in 2018. His job was to pre-train the AI system (系统). The man and his team made computers study hundreds of millions of words. These words came from books, magazine articles, Internet and so on. They covered many different subjects. By studying these words, the system learned the patterns (规律) of human language. This helped the chatbot develop the ability to “chat” about different subjects like a real person.
Although Patrocki is very talented, he has kept a low profile. He hardly ever talks to the media (媒体). He is not active on social media, either. The programmer, instead, spends most of his time on his work, trying to make computers smarter.
Does ChatGPT’s ability surprise you? Well, now you know there are smart minds like Patrocki behind it. Computers are not getting smarter on their own.

When you think of 3D-printing, you may think of small objects. But three companies are working together to print something much bigger. They’re using a large 3D printer to create the first two-story (两层的) 3D-printed house in the US.
Usually, 3D-printing involves (涉及) a machine building something by putting down many layers (层) of a material—often hot plastic. When the material gets hard, the layers stick together to create a finished object. The method here is similar, but uses concrete (混凝土).
3D-printing has been around for a while. But until recently, it hasn’t been used much in the US for building houses. Now, that’s changing. Several 3D-printed houses have been built in the US and more are planned. So far, no one in the US has created a two- story 3D-printed house. And this one will be a large, 3-bedroom house. The house, which is in Houston, Texas, was designed by a company called HANNAH. Another company, PERI 3D CONSTR (建筑), provided the 3D printer. And a construction company called CIVE is doing the actual building.
3D-printed concrete houses are stronger and hold up better in serious storms than houses built with wood. This can save money in the long run. Since the machine is doing the building, fewer workers are needed, which also saves money.
Ms Lok, who designed the house, says that with 3D-printing, it’s easy to make each house different from other houses. For example, she’s using the 3D printer to create special shelves all through the Houston house. These kinds of changes can apply to almost anything. “The printer doesn’t care if you print the same chair 100 times or you print 100 different chairs.” says Ms Lok. That means that in the future, each house could be created specially for its owners.
10.What material is used to print the two-story 3D-printed house?
A.Plastic. B.Concrete. C.Wood. D.Stone.
11.Which company does Ms Lok work for?
A.HANNAH. B.PERI3D CONSTR. C.CIVE. D.HOUSTON.
12.What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A.How 3D-printing has developed. B.How 3D-printed houses are built.
C.The popularity of 3D-printed houses. D.The advantages of 3D-printed houses.
13.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.3D-printing will become more popular in the future.
B.People in the future will all live in 3D-printed houses.
C.People can build houses themselves with 3D-printing in the future.
D.3D-printing can help people build a house based on their personal styles.

Unit 6 I’m going to study computer science
【A卷·提升卷】

14.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Three Companies in the US
B.3D-Printing Makes People’s Life Easier
C.The First Two-Story 3D-Printed House in US
D.3D-Printed Houses Are Cheaper Than Other Houses
Small bug has big power
The next time you feel a bug crawl (爬行) across your skin, don’t be scared. It might just be a small robot crab (螃蟹) ! Engineers from Northwestern University in Illinois, US, have developed the smallest remote-controlled walking robot in the shape of a small and lovely crab. Just half a millimeter wide, the crab can bend, crawl, walk, turn and even jump. The team believes that their technology is a big step closer to bringing about robots that can do remote-controlled work in small spaces. For example, the small robots can help doctors in surgeries (手术), said John A.Rogers, who led the team.
