The other day, grandma got a phone call from a stranger who told her that she had won a prize, but she would need to send in some money in order to receive her winnings. Grandma immediately smelled a rat but played along.
She asked calmly for the name of the caller, the phone number and where to send her payment. He gave her some information and told grandma she would be receiving a phone call the next day and that a FedEx employee would come to her house to collect the money.
After the phone call grandma called the chief of police in her town and told him that she had got enough information to get them jailed. But the police chief told her there was nothing he could do and told grandma just to ignore these bad people who were trying to take advantage of an elderly person. Grandma wasn’t happy with this response. She decided to take matters into her own hands.
The next day, she got another call from the scammers(骗子), who told her to write out a check for several thousand dollars and wait at home for a FedEx employee to pick up the check late in the afternoon. True to their words, the FedEx employee arrived. Grandma was told that whatever he was picking up was to be sent away overnight and the payment, all based on weight, would be billed to the party that requested the pickup.
On hearing the information, a good idea hit grandma and then she took out a pack of junk.
“Can I send all this stuff?” Grandma asked.
“Sure, you can,” the employee said. “I’ll just need to get a big box.”
As the employee packed items into the box, grandma put inside a note saying “Go to hell!” in big letters with her name at the bottom. Grandma said, with a big smile, “I really appreciate your help.” When the FedEx truck drove away, grandma said she felt an unbelievable amount of joy. She never heard from the scammers again.
24.When did grandma recognize it was a scam?
A.When she was called to receive her winnings.
B.After she got full information about the stranger.
C.When a FedEx employee came to her house to collect the money.
D.After she had a talk with the policeman on the phone.
25.What made grandma decide to deal with scammers by herself?
A.Her decision not to trouble others.
B.Her desire to show off her courage.
C.The response to her request from the police.
D.The encouragement from the FedEx employee.
26.Why did grandma feel glad when the FedEx truck drove away?
A.Because she cleaned the house.
B.Because she would teach the scammer a lesson.
C.Because the FedEx employee warned her against bad people.
D.Because the FedEx employer packed items into the box.
27.Which of the following can best describe grandma?
A.Calm and unselfish. B.Joyful and energetic.
C.Humorous and careful. D.Smart and brave.

It's easy to believe that robots are stealing jobs from human workers and badly affect the job market; after all, you’ve likely heard that they are tracking and moving packages without the use of human hands.
But there's no need to worry about a robot takeover just yet, says a new study from BYU sociology professor Eric Dahlin. Dahlin's research found that robots aren't replacing humans at the ate most people think, but people are likely to greatly exaggerate (夸大) the rate of robot takeover.
To understand the relationship between job loss and robots, Dahlin surveyed nearly 2,000 people about their views on jobs being, replaced by robots. They were first asked to guess what is the percentage of employees whose employers(雇主) have replaced jobs with robots. They were then asked whether their employers have ever replaced their jobs with robots.
The study found that only 14% of workers say they've seen their job replaced by a robot. But those who have experienced job displacement due to a robot overstate the effect of robots taking jobs from humans by about three times.
“Our understanding of robots taking over jobs is greatly exaggerated, ”says Dahlin. Those who haven't lost jobs overstate it by about double, and those who have lost jobs overstate it by about three times. Eye-catching headlines saying a bad future of employment have likely overblown the situation of robots taking over jobs.
The finding fits early studies, which suggest that robots aren't replacing workers. Rather, workplaces, where both employees and robots are working together, deliver more value in a way, “An everyday example is an autonomous machine at your local department store, "says Dahlin. “This robot cleans the floors while employees clean under shelves or other difficult-to-reach places. ”
28. How did Eric Dahlin carry out his research?
A. By asking people questions. B. By comparing early studies.
C. By interviewing employers. D. By studying new businesses.
29. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A. Bad effects of technology. B. A fall in laid-off workers.
C. Benefits of using robots. D. The finding of the study.
30. What might deepen people's worry about robot takeover according to the text?
A. Low pay. B. News reports. C. Physical health. D. Fewer workplaces.
31. Which statement will Eric Dahlin probably agree with?
A. Robots can work as human partners. B. Job markets will be affected seriously.
C. All human workers will be replaced. D. Work experience matters too much.

Seismometer(地震仪)stations not only sense ground shaking due to earthquakes but alsc signals at the surface of our planet, such as storms and—as the researchers discovered—also floods. For this research, scientists turned an earthquake seismometer station near the town of Ahrweiler in Germany into a flood tracking tool. Using seismological information from the time of the event, they can tell people about the disaster in a timely way.
As the town of Ahrweiler took the full force of a flood, scientists found the seismometer exactly showed the track of the flood for one hour. By. comparing mathematical models, the researchers were able to estimate(估算)the speed with which the flood moved. In fact, this was the only systematic source of measurable information about how the flood developed because the three present water level stations in the town were out of service early.
As the research shows, this method can provide information that is valuable to track flood for warning and rescue activities. “If the data from that station is available(可用的)and as our research now shows, real time information on the magnitude and speed of the flood will be available as well, ”says Dr Michael Dietze at the University of Gottingen. “As 10% of Europe's surface area is likely to suffer from rapid flooding by rivers, we may want to start thinking about new ways of flood early warning. The present network of water level stations is not enough to be fully prepared for future events, ”Dietze adds.
Dietze and his team are working on a plan to discover further areas at risk of flooding and provide them with low cost “watch tower” scismometer pairs—an effort to cut the losses caused by future floods. Dietze says, “The deadly July flood that hit the Ahrweiler in Germany in July 2021 gave a warning to the locals, the government, emergency services and scientists—how much we need to learn to improve the present flood warning systems. ”
32. What can be known about Ahrweiler?
A. It saw an earthquake. B. It's turned into a station.
C. It's hard hit by a flood D. It praised these scientists.
33. What do the researchers expect of the seismometer?
A. It'll speed up water supply. B. It'll stop rapid flooding.
C. It'll be a tool for a family. D. It'll provide early warning.
34. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. People will cut the cost of public services.
B. Efforts should be put into flood control.
C. The government must save its spending.
D. The locals have made a plan of action.
35. Where is this text most likely from?
A. A health report. B. A guidebook. C. A short story. D. A science magazine.

67. 阅Jenny and James were ten-year-old twins. It was their mother’s birthday on the coming Saturday and the twins wanted to give her a surprise. What could they do? Baking (烘烤) a cake seemed quite impossible.
Jenny was sitting on the stairs, wondering how she could make her mother’s day special when James came running in and said to Jenny, “Hey Jen! Mummy is inviting her friends. I think she intends to give a party!”
“It means we have to do something great so Mum can feel really happy when we surprise her in front of all her guests,” replied Jenny. “We must bake a cake for her!”
The twins were making serious plans for the birthday party. They organized the seating plan, prepared the menu, bought the ingredients (原料) for the cake and decorated the dining hall.
On the big day, they woke up very early in the morning, wished their mother a happy birthday and asked her to watch TV or read some magazines.
“We will take care of everything,” said James.
“Yes,” said Jenny. “Don’t worry about the party. We have everything under control.”
Then the twins headed for the kitchen. They were baking a chocolate cake. Both of them worked fast.
Soon, people started arriving and gave gifts to the twins’ mother. The guests and the hosts chatted for a while and then everyone went to the dining hall for the cake-cutting ceremony. 【
A. It takes place twice a year.(它每年举行两次);根据第一段最后一句“Write a poem about how the pandemic(疫情) has changed your life.(写一首关于疫情是如何改变了你的生活的诗)”,而选项B. It focuses on the development of poetry(它关注诗歌的发展),两者不是很贴切,故排除选项B;根据倒数第二段“Judges are unable to comment on individual entries(评委无法对个人参赛作品发表评论)”可知,评委无法对个别参赛作品发表评论,所以选项D. It gives feedback on each entry.(它对每一个参赛作品给出反馈)被排除;根据“Fees:10 per poem(费用:每首诗10英镑)”可知,每首诗的参赛费用为10英镑,所以参赛者要支付费用。故选C项。
22.

28. A 细节理解题。根据第三段“They were first asked to. . . They were then asked. . . "可知,此次研究主要通过问答的方式进行。
29. D 段落大意题。通读第四段,尤其是“The study found that. . . ”可知,本段主要讲述此次研究的发现。
30. B 细节理解题。根据第五段"Eye-catching headlines saying a bad future of employment have likely overblown the situation of robots taking over jobs. "可知,新闻报道为引起大众关注,夸大机器人取代人工的实际情况,从而加剧了大众的焦虑。
31. A 推理判断题。根据最后一段,尤其是". . . workplaces,where both employees and robots are working together,deliver more value in a way. "可推断,EricDahlin 或认同“机器人可以成为人类干活的好搭档”这一论述。

32. C 细节理解题。根据第二段"As the town of Ahrweiler took the full force of a flood. . . "及第四段"'The deadly July flood that hit the Ahrweiler. . . '"可知,Ahrweiler遭受了猛烈的洪水侵袭。

34. B 推理判断题。根据最后一段"'The deadly July flood. . . gave a warning to the locals. . . how much we need to learn to improve the present flood warning systems. '"可推断,还需把更多精力投入到未来防洪工作中。
35. D 文章出处题。通读全文可知,本文主要介绍了一项新研究发现——地震仪可用于洪水监测预警,故文章可能出自一本科学杂志。

第二节(满分25分)
The cake was very beautiful and looked delicious. James and Jenny placed it on the table and handed Mother the knife. She blew out the candles, cut the cake and everyone sang the birthday song.

Paragraph 1
Now it was time to eat the cake. Mother shared it with the guests but to her surprise, the cake was a disaster! It was hard on the outside, and underdone on the inside. The taste was awful as well! Soon the twins realized that there was something wrong with their baked creation. They were really upset. “We’ve ruined your birthday, ”James said hopelessly. “Yes, we are so sorry for this!” said Jenny with tears in her eyes.
Paragraph 2
Mother hugged the twins and said, “No problem dear; it was your first attempt at baking.” After hearing Mother’s words, Jenny stopped crying. Mother continued to comfort them and said, “I am happy that you tried. Keep trying and never give up. This is the best birthday surprise of my life!” None of the guests said that the cake was not right because everyone knew that the twins had tried to do something new and this had been their first attempt. The hall sounded with praise and appreciation for the twins’ efforts.

材料十
M: We are glad to have Doctor Garfield to talk to us today about dreams. Let me start by asking the first question, does everyone dream?
W: It appears that everyone does. Mostly when people say that they never dream, what they really mean is that they don't remember their dreams or they don't think their dreams are important. The reason behind is that they might have been made fun of as a child when they first reported their dreams, or it was so frightening that they just turned off dreaming completely. The other day, someone named Davis came to me and said that he used to be a great dreamer, but suddenly he stopped having dreams. I asked him what had happened. It turned out that his brother died of a heart attack. And he never expected that such a terrible thing would happen to a young person. Generally, when there was some frightening event and to dream about it was too terrible, people prefer not to dream about it. Actually, the worst thing you can do is stop dreaming, because it means that the bad experience was too painful to even appear in dreams. As long as you're dreaming about it, and even if the dreams are frightening, your mind is working on it. My personal opinion about what dreams do is that they help us deal with our problems. We see certain patterns take place in dreams when a person is hurt deep inside, when a person is seriously ill or when a person has been really sad. If people turn off their dreams totally, it means they don't allow themselves to even think about it.
