But when he was just 14 years old, he got heartbreaking news that he had a rare form of bone cancer growing in his left leg. His baseball playing came to a sudden stop as he spent the next three years undergoing six surgeries, 24 treatments and 18 hospital stays. The young pitcher’s leg would never be strong enough to make competitive playing an option. “At the time I guess I was just kind of in denial, because my whole life, day in and day out, was built around baseball and sports,” Walker said. “It was pretty disastrous,” his mom, Pam said. The most the 17-year-old would be able to do is play catch with his teammates as they warmed up for their games. As the team approached the final game of the season, Walker’s parents and coach agreed that he could pitch (投球) for an inning (一局) or two for the old time’s sake. “Say you did it, have some fun, and then that’ll be it. Obviously, that’s not what happened,” Walker said. What ended up happening was more than anyone ever expected. Walker not only threw solid pitches in that first inning, but he also ended up pitching a no-hitter. The coach decided to keep him in the game until he started giving up pitches, but that never happened. Smallwood struck out all but two hitters for the entire game and tied a school record in the process. “I was in tears, most of the stands were in tears — just one of those special moments that we’ll cherish forever,” mom Pam said. Smallwood may never play again. He’s actually fine with that now because who needs a World Series ring when you’ve already taken on your greatest competitor and gone undefeated. 4. What does the word “It” underlined in paragraph 2 refer to? A. The serious injury to his leg. B. The childhood baseball dream. C. The risk of multiple surgeries. D. The long-term mental stress. 5. Which of the following best describes Walker Smallwood? A. Confident and energetic. B. Ambitious and determined. C. Brilliant and considerate. D. Optimistic and independent. 6. Why does the author mention a World Series ring in the last paragraph? A. To emphasize the value of cherishing every moment. B. To stress the significance of any championship prize. C. To highlight Walker’s personal success at the game. D. To serves as a reminder of challenges in Walker’s life. 7. What can we learn from Walker’s story? A. Misfortune can tell us what fortune is. B. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. C. Constant dropping wears away a stone. D. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. A 5. B 6. C 7. 故选A。 根据第四段“Say you did it, have some fun, and then that’ll be it. Obviously, that’s not what happened(说你做到了,找点乐子,然后就行了。显然,事实并非如此)”和第五段中“Walker not only threw solid pitches in that first inning, but he also ended up pitching a no-hitter. The coach decided to keep him in the game until he started giving up pitches, but that never happened.(Walker不仅在第一局投出了稳定的球,而且他最终投出了无安打。教练决定让他留在比赛中,直到他开始放弃投球,但这并没有发生)”可知,Walker在得知有机会参加最后一场比赛后,就决心不只是去玩玩,而是认真打比赛。结果他投出了一个无安打的球,超出所有人的预期。从这里可以看出这位年轻投手有追求,有决心,也很努力, 棒球是他一生的追求,说明他很有雄心壮志。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。从文章最后一段“Smallwood may never play again. He’s actually fine with that now because who needs a World Series ring when you’ve already taken on your greatest competitor and gone undefeated.(Smallwood可能再也不会上场了。 根据全文内容,结合第一段中“His baseball playing came to a sudden stop as he spent the next three years undergoing six surgeries, 24 treatments and 18 hospital stays.(在接下来的三年里,他经历了6次手术、24次治疗和18次住院,他的棒球生涯戛然而止)”和倒数第二段中“Smallwood struck out all but two hitters for the entire game and tied a school record in the process.(Smallwood在整场比赛中三振了除两名击球手外的所有人,并在此过程中追平了学校的记录)”可知,本文介绍了17岁男孩 Walker Smallwood 因患一种罕见的癌症不得不放弃棒球运动。 D项“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.(那些杀不死你的,终将使你更强大)”符合题意,无法打败你的事情才能让你更坚强,点明中心。故选D。 C While an analysis of the Global Dietary Database for the years 1990, 2005, and 2018 found overall consumption of sweetened drinks increased — by nearly 16% worldwide over the 28-year period studied — regional intake widely varied, researchers say. Sugary drinks have been widely associated with overweight and heart related diseases, which are among the leading causes of death and years lost to disability globally. Many national guidelines recommend limiting added sugars to less than 5% to 10% of daily calories, and because sodas (汽水) add no nutritional value, some countries tax their consumption to help their residents meet this goal. The study published in Nature Communications, is the latest presentation of how adults in 185 countries drink sugar-sweetened beverages (饮料). Intakes varied widely by world region. In 2018, the average person consumed 2.7 servings of sugary drinks per week, but this ranged from 0.7 servings per week in South Asia to 7.8 servings per week in Latin America. And some of the highest sugary drink intakes in the world were among urban, highly educated adults in Sub-Saharan Africa (12.4 servings per week) and in Latin America (8.5 servings per week). “We were struck by the wide variations by world regions in 2018; that Latin America had the largest intakes at all time points despite an overall decrease overtime; and that Sub-Saharan Africa had the greatest increases across all time points,” says Laura Lara-Castor, a PhD candidate at Tufts University. “These results suggest that more work is needed such as marketing regulations, food labeling, and soda taxes.” Information from the Global Dietary Database, which gathers hundreds of survey results, also revealed a relationship between sugary beverages and socio-economic status. “Sugar-sweetened beverage intake has increased in the past few decades despite efforts to decrease their appeal,” says researchers. “Some populations are especially easily affected, and our findings provide evidence to inform the need and design of national and more targeted policies to reduce their intake worldwide.” 8. What is the main concern about sugary drinks? A. They are just a barrier to weight loss. B. They are linked to health issues. C. They are far from nutrition standard. D. They are a total waste of money. 9. Why do some countries tax the consumption of sodas? A. To increase income for the government. B. To promote the sales of healthier drinks. C. To discourage people from drinking sodas. D. To set a limit to the price of sugary drinks. 10. What is the primary focus of the study published in Nature Communications? A. Sugary drink consumption trends. B. Impact of soda taxes on purchases. C. Regional variations in dietary habits. D. Global dietary information analysis. 11. What can we infer from the results of the study? A. Sugary drinks have nothing to do with economic status. B. The appeal of sugary drinks cannot be underestimated. C. Some people are very particular about the sugary drinks. D. National policies on sugary drinks are more than enough. B 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第二段第一句“Sugary drinks have been widely associated with overweight and heart related diseases, which are among the leading causes of death and years lost to disability globally. (人们普遍认为含糖饮料与超重和心脏相关疾病有关,而这些疾病是全球范围内导致死亡和残疾的主要原因之一。)”可知,人们对含糖饮料的主要担忧是它与健康问题有关。故选B。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Many national guidelines recommend limiting added sugars to less than 5% to 10% of daily calories, and because sodas (汽水) add no nutritional value, some countries tax their consumption to help their residents meet this goal. (许多国家的指导方针建议将添加糖限制在每日热量的5%至10%以下,由于汽水没有增加营养价值,一些国家对其消费征税,以帮助其居民实现这一目标)”可知,有的国家对汽水增加税收是为了让人们少喝没有营养价值的汽水,达到控制每日糖摄入量的目的。故选C。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。 根据第一段“While an analysis of the Global Dietary Database for the years 1990, 2005, and 2018 found overall consumption of sweetened drinks increased — by nearly 16% worldwide over the 28-year period studied—regional intake widely varied, researchers say.(研究人员表示,尽管对1990年、2005年和2018年全球饮食数据库的分析发现,在研究的28年期间,全球加糖饮料的总消费量增加了近16%,但地区摄入量差异很大)”及第三段“The study, published in Nature Communications, is the latest presentation of how adults in 185 countries drink sugar-sweetened beverages (饮料). Intakes varied widely by world region.(该研究发表在《自然通讯》杂志上,是185个国家的成年人如何饮用含糖饮料的最新报告。摄入量因世界地区而异)”可知,文章主要讨论了全球范围内含糖饮料的消费趋势,包括不同地区和时间段的消费数据。例如,文章提到1990年、2005年和2018年的全球含糖饮料消费总体增加了16%,并且详细分析了不同地区的消费差异。由此推知,研究核心是含糖饮料的消费趋势。故选A。 根据最后一段““Sugar-sweetened beverage intake has increased in the past few decades despite efforts to decrease their appeal,” says researchers. “Some populations are especially easily affected, and our findings provide evidence to inform the need and design of national and more targeted policies to reduce their intake worldwide.” (研究人员说:“尽管人们努力降低含糖饮料的吸引力,但在过去的几十年里,含糖饮料的摄入量却在增加。”“一些人群特别容易受到影响,我们的研究结果为各国制定更有针对性的政策以减少全球范围内的摄入提供了证据。”)”可知,在过去的几十年里,尽管在努力降低含糖饮料的吸引力,但其摄入量仍在增加,由此可知,含糖饮料的吸引力不容小觑。故选B。 D The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has released the first global blueprint to save the world’s forests. The WWF is a global conservation charity. Its Forest Pathways Report details the state of the world’s forests and what governments can do to better protect them. The report focuses on the commitments that were made at COP26 ——a conference on the climate emergency held in the UK in 2021. At COP26, more than 140 countries, covering around 90% of the world’s forest, promised to end deforestation by 2030. However, the WWF says that this target is in danger of being missed. In 2022, 66,000 square kilometres of forest around the world was lost. About two-thirds of this was from tropical forests. This is having an effect on wildlife, with the WWF’s blueprint noting a decline in the populations of species that depend on forests, such as gorillas, hornbills, orangutans and black-headed squirrel monkeys. However, the report also highlights some conservation success stories. For instance, the Khata Conservation Area in Nepal has grown by a size amount to 3,000 football pitches, providing a home for tigers and other species. Meanwhile, in the UK, the Wild Ingleborough project, a partnership between the WWF and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, is restoring 15square kilometres of land in the Yorkshire Dales back to its natural wild state, complete with woodlands. Mary Gagen, author of the Forest Pathways Report, says, “There are pockets of success where countries are approaching deforestation, and we know what needs to be done to grow those.” The report includes a list of recommendations for world governments, providing a blueprint to save forests. This includes toughening up rules against deforestation as well as recognizing the rights of indigenous (当地的) peoples who live in the forests. They are the descendants (后代) of those who lived somewhere before another culture arrived and took over. There are also some specific suggestions for the UK Government, such as bringing in environmental standards for food that is bought and sold in the UK, so that none of it contributes to deforestation. 12. What do we know about WWF? A. It may fail to meet its goal. B. It focuses on protecting our earth. C. It offers proposals to governments. D. It approves of COP26’s commitments. 13. How does the author mainly develop the third paragraph? A. By listing some statistics. B. By clarifying a concept. C. By citing some examples. D. By pointing out similarities. 14. What can you learn from the text? A. The blueprint lays down food criteria for countries. B. Concrete tips will help the UK government save forests. C. The blueprint doesn’t acknowledge the rights of natives. D. The native people are succeeding generations of another culture. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Keynote of Forest Pathways Report. B. A Conference on the Climate Emergency. C. The Worldwide Effort for Deforestation. D. Successful Stories of Tackling Deforestation. B 13. C 14. B 15. 根据首段中的“The WWF is a global conservation charity. Its Forest Pathways Report details the state of the world’s forests and what governments can do to better protect them. (世界自然基金会是一个全球性的环保慈善组织。该组织的《森林路径报告》详细介绍了世界森林的状况,以及各国政府可以采取哪些措施来更好地保护森林。)”可知,WWF是一个全球性的环保慈善组织,它在报告中详细介绍世界的森林情况,并对各国可以采取哪些措施来保护森林,由此可知,WWF旨在保护全球的森林。故选B项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“However, the report also highlights some conservation success stories.(然而,该报告也强调了一些成功的保护案例。)”可知,该报告强调了一些成功的保护案例,结合下文中的“For instance, the Khata Conservation Area in Nepal has grown by a size amount to 3,000 football pitches, providing a home for tigers and other species….(例如,尼泊尔的卡塔保护区的面积已经扩大到3000个足球场,为老虎和其他物种提供了家园……。)” 根据尾段中的“The report includes a list of recommendations for world governments, providing a blueprint to save forests.(该报告为世界各国政府提供了一系列建议,为拯救森林提供了蓝图。)”可知,该报告为各国政府提供了一系列的建议来拯救森林,结合下文中的“There are also some specific suggestions for the UK Government, such as bringing in environmental standards for food that is bought and sold in the UK, so that none of it contributes to deforestation.(对英国政府也有一些具体的建议,比如对在英国买卖的食品引入环境标准,这样就不会导致森林砍伐。)” 根据首段中的“The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has released the first global blueprint to save the world’s forests.(世界自然基金会(WWF)发布了第一份拯救世界森林的全球蓝图。)” 故选A项。 For outdoor enthusiasts, it is crucial to be prepared for any sort of natural disaster in the open air. ___16___. It includes what kinds of disasters may strike, and what resources should be taken on your trip. ___17___ Desert areas are more likely to be affected by droughts; coastal regions are more likely to see hurricanes; mountainous areas are likely to avalanches (雪崩) in winter and landslides in summer. Therefore, always do some research ahead of time to help you find right survival strategies in different conditions. While you’re planning, the essential thing to consider is the things you should pack for your trip. Any disaster that may separate you from civilization for a period of time will require you to provide your own food, water, and shelter for at least a few days. ___18___ For disasters that may wet your equipment, flameless light sources are a must. What you bring with you should be suited to the disaster you might encounter. Once you complete your survival plan, it’s better to review it periodically. When a natural disaster strikes, you probably won’t have time to go over a document or go online to seek advice. ___19___ If a natural disaster strikes while you are in the wilderness, you should put your survival plan into effect immediately. ___20___ Then contact others for help. Do not wait around to see if the disaster is really that serious, do not panic, and do not easily abandon your plan. A. But this is not always the case. B. It’s also a good idea to bring light sources. C. That means having a disaster response plan. D. It’s also great to consult with the specialists in person. E. Consequently, revising it frequently is strongly recommended. F. Different kinds of disasters are likely to occur in different areas. G. Stay calm, act decisively, and begin working to keep yourself alive. C 17. F 18. B 19. E 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“For outdoor enthusiasts, it is crucial to be prepared for any sort of natural disaster in the open air.(对于户外运动爱好者来说,在户外为任何自然灾害做好准备是至关重要的)”和下文“It includes what kinds of disasters may strike, and what resources should be taken on your trip.(它包括什么类型的灾难可能会发生,以及在你的旅行中应该带什么资源)”可知,空处承上启下,针对上文提到的做好准备,应该有一个灾难应对计划,下文中则是计划的具体内容。C项中的“a disaster response plan”和下文中的“it”对应。C项:That means having a disaster response plan.(这意味着要有一个灾难应对计划)符合语境。 根据下文“Desert areas are more likely to be affected by droughts; coastal regions are more likely to see hurricanes; mountainous areas are likely to avalanches (雪崩) in winter and landslides in summer.(沙漠地区更容易受到干旱的影响;沿海地区更容易出现飓风;山区冬季易发生雪崩,夏季易发生山体滑坡)”可知,本段主要讲述了不同地区会发生不同的灾害。 Different kinds of disasters are likely to occur in different areas.(不同的地区可能发生不同种类的灾害)符合语境。故选F。 【18题详解】 根据上文“Any disaster that may separate you from civilization for a period of time will require you to provide your own food, water, and shelter for at least a few days.(任何可能将你与文明隔离一段时间的灾难将要求你提供你自己的食物,水,和至少几天的避难所)”可知,空处承接上文,提出需要准备的东西,结合下文“For disasters that may wet your equipment, flameless light sources are a must.(对于可能湿润你装备的灾害,无火光源是必不可少的)”可知,空处提到的东西是光源,B项中的“light sources”和下文中的“flameless light sources”对应。B项:It’s also a good idea to bring light sources.(带光源也是个好主意)符合语境。故选B。 【19题详解】 根据上文“Once you complete your survival plan, it’s better to review it periodically. When a natural disaster strikes, you probably won’t have time to go over a document or go online to seek advice.(一旦你完成了生存计划,最好定期回顾一下。当自然灾害来袭时,你可能没有时间浏览文件或上网寻求建议)”可知,空处和上文形成因果关系,因为完成生存计划以后可能没有时间浏览文件或寻求建议,因此要经常修改它。E项:Consequently, revising it frequently is strongly recommended.(因此,强烈建议经常修改它)符合语境。故选E。 【20题详解】 根据上文“If a natural disaster strikes while you are in the wilderness, you should put your survival plan into effect immediately.(当你在野外时,如果自然灾害袭击了你,你应该立即实施你的生存计划)”可知,空处承接上文,说明要采取果断行动,G项中的“act decisively”和上文中的“put your survival plan into effect immediately”对应。 One day, a girl came upon a cocoon, and she could tell that a butterfly was trying to ____21____. Ever since he was little, dogs have been his greatest passion. He often growled (低吼) and barked and sometimes moved around the house on all fours. His parents brought in a little brown female dog named Lynn. Tom was on cloud nine. One day, this little boy, together with Lynn, was sitting quietly down by the side of the street when suddenly a giant dog walked across him. He was a little surprised and started screaming as loudly as he could! All of this frightened Lynn away immediately. Tom’s parents tried to see what the chances were of Lynn coming home on her own. But five days later, there was still no sign of Lynn. The boy didn’t just have tears streaming down his cheeks — his parents were saddened too. The woods behind their home stretched for over 50 miles! Together with their neighbors, they searched for over a month. But Lynn was gone. Tom’s parents wanted to choose a new puppy for him. But no dog could replace Lynn for him. Tom was not the same boy. He locked himself in his room. He seemed to have lost his love for dogs. He could not focus his attention on his classes so he didn’t want to go to school. He would easily get angry with people around him. Tom changed from a happy, smiling boy to an upset and annoying kid. Tom’s parents wanted him to stay home and he had been studying at home ever since. His parents accompanied him almost every day, but staying home didn’t help much. The boy’s mother worried a lot. One rainy afternoon, she saw him staring out the window. “I miss Lynn so much. I wonder if everything is okay with her?” It had been a long time since his beloved dog ran away, but Tom’s despair was as great as the day it happened. Days later, Tom walked out the front door with his head down and sat by the side of the street. A huge brown dog crossed the street and stood in front of the crying boy. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Lynn licked his cheeks and then walked to the edge of the woods. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 A huge brown dog crossed the street and stood in front of the crying boy. The animal barked twice and watched Tom, tongue rolling out. It was only after a few minutes that he looked at it more closely. The four-legged giant’s glassy eyes reminded him of hugging by the fireplace and running between the sprinklers in the backyard. He knew the dog very well. It was Lynn!!! Tom ran to his friend and wrapped his arms tightly around her neck. Lynn licked his cheeks and then walked to the edge of the woods. Tom ran after Lynn and entered the woods. He lost sight of her for a moment, but luckily soon heard his friend barking. And he finally saw it… Lynn grew up to be an adult dog and became a mother! She had three fluffy, sweet little puppies. Tom took Lynn and her puppies home and his parents were very happy to adopt the little dogs. Tom took good care of Lynn and her puppies. He shared his story, showing his appreciation of tiny animals. Tom made a full recovery. He happily returned to school. His classmates visit him almost every day. As the team approached the final game of the season Walker’s parents and coach agreed that he could pitch (投球) for an inning (一局) or two for the old time’s sake. A Misfortune can tell us what fortune is. B. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. C. Constant dropping wears away a stone. D. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. C While an analysis of the Global Dietary Database for the years 1990, 2005, and 2018 found overall consumption of sweetened drinks increased — by nearly 16% worldwide over the 28-year period studied — regional intake widely varied, researchers say. The study, published in Nature Communications, is the latest presentation of how adults in 185 countries drink sugar-sweetened beverages (饮料). D The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has released the first global blueprint to save the world’s forests. 12. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
