B A new study has found that experiencing nature, such as taking a walk in a park or even just viewing photos of a natural setting, encourages healthier food choices. “We found that exposure to nature increases the importance that people attach to health compared to taste or other properties when making food choices,” explained Maria Langlois, assistant professor at Southern Methodist University and first author of the study. Gathering evidence from hundreds of participants from five different studies across three countries over seven years, Langlois examined the food choices made after both real-world and virtual experiences of nature. In the first study conducted in France, participants took a twenty-minute long walk through either a large green park or the city, taking photos along the way. Afterwards, they could choose what they wanted to eat from a snack buffet. Those who walked in nature ate healthier snacks compared to the urban city walkers. But was it nature or the photo that did the trick? The researchers moved online, and took on more participants. One group were shown a photo of a hotel room with a window view of a natural setting while the other group had a window view of an urban setting. A third control group had no window view — they had closed curtains. Those exposed to “nature” in this way were found to make healthier food choices compared to both the control and urban groups. “By including a control condition in our work, this research shows that it is not exposure to urban environments that is driving unhealthy food choices, but really exposure to natural environments that is driving healthier food choices,” said Langlois. With almost 70% of the world’s population expected to live in urbanized areas by 2050, this research could provide urban planners with important insight into the health implications (影响) of their designs. It is also hoped that highlighting benefits of nature may promote environmental conservation efforts as people realize we need nature. 4. What is Maria Langlois’s study mainly about? A. The impact of nature on physical exercise. B. The influence of nature on food choices. C. The effect of urban environments on health. D. The comparison of real and virtual experiences. 5. How did the researchers mainly conduct the further study in paragraph 4? A. By giving reasons. B. By doing interviews. C. By taking quotations. D. By making comparisons. 6. What would urban planners do for future cities? A. To build more parks. B. To dig more tunnels. C. To widen the lanes. D. To construct high-rise buildings. C Most people enjoy variety. We like to eat different foods from meal to meal. We wear different clothes. We like to try new activities and visit new places. We become bored when there is little variety. Nevertheless, there’s one place where we tend to dislike variety, and that’s in each other. We often feel uncomfortable with people who practise different habits, or hold beliefs or values that we do not share. There are reasons for this. When we are exposed to new and different things, our brain works a bit harder than usual. When we’re learning, our nerve cells require more resources, such as water, salt, and various other chemicals. This extra metabolic (新陈代谢的) activity can feel unsettling and unpleasant. And it can feel worse if our nervous system is already under pressure, like in the midst of the pandemic. This sort of variation may be uncomfortable for individuals, but it’s critical to the survival of any species. If all finches (雀科鸣鸟) were identical, for example, and their environment changed in some significant, harmful ways, like an increase in the temperature or a decrease in water, all of them would be equally affected and the species might become extinct. This insight into variation comes from Charles Darwin, and it’s known as population thinking. Most people associate Darwin with his evolutionary theory of natural selection, but population thinking may be an even greater scientific achievement. The idea of “survival of the fittest” implies that individuals must vary. Some are more suited than others for a given environment, making it easier for them to survive, grow, and reproduce. Variation is therefore a prerequisite for natural selection to work. Dealing with the vast variety of humankind can be demanding and even annoying at times, but it’s a good investment, sort of like exercise for your brain. When you meet someone who looks different or thinks differently from you, treat your discomfort as a cue to be curious and learn instead of a signal of a problem. Don’t hold the view that the other person should be silenced. Ultimately, this mindset can make you more flexible in adapting to challenging situations, and more adaptable to change. 7. Which of the following might make people feel uncomfortable? A. Having an adventure in the wild. B. Taking a trip to a foreign country. C. Sharing traveling experiences with others. D. Socializing with people from diverse cultures. 8. What does the second paragraph focus on? A. People’s unwillingness to deal with new things. B. The significance of learning new things in our life. C. The biological explanations for people’s discomfort. D. The role of the nervous system in learning new things. 9. What does the underlined word “prerequisite” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Requirement. B. Substitute. C. Motivation. D. Challenge. 10. What does the writer mainly want to convey? A. Why we tend to chase and enjoy variation. B. How we can benefit from seeking variation. C. How we should treat the differences we find in others. D. Why we should get along with people different from us. Discovering Your True Self Is Vital to Happiness! She had a deep passion for table tennis and dreamed of becoming a professional player. Despite her young age, she was determined to work hard and make her dream come true. From the moment when Emily picked up a table tennis paddle, she was impressed by the sport. She spent every spare moment practicing her shots, focusing on her footwork and mastering different techniques. Each time she stepped on the court, she was eager to improve and pushed herself to the limit. Unluckily, Emily faced a visual impairment (缺陷) that threatened to slow her progress. She was born with a condition that affected her sight. Some people doubted her ability to play table tennis and said, “Emily, your impairment is a disadvantage. It is impossible to play table tennis well!” But Emily refused to let their doubts consume her. With solid determination, Emily turned her impairment into strength. She used her other heightened senses to her advantage, relying on touch and sound to anticipate her opponents’ moves. While others relied on sight, she developed an incredible sense of intuition (直觉) and strategy. Emily finally excelled in table tennis, achieving incredible milestones and representing her town in many competitions. She became an advocate of the sport in her town. However, Emily decided not to settle for winning in her comfort zone but to challenge for something higher. She joined a training team guided by a world-class coach, which brought together the world’s top table tennis players. In the training team, Emily went through a series of trials. She carried out high-intensity training. She needed to improve not only the batting skills but also perseverance and the sense of teamwork. Her coach often encouraged her and said, “Anyone, regardless of ability, could find success.” A few years later, Emily’s efforts paid off. She got her chance. As a member of the national team, she took part in an important international competition. That was the stage for her to show her skills, and it was also the important moment for her to realize her dream. In the competition, Emily found herself facing a strong opponent, Lily. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the competition, Emily’s story spread throughout the table tennis community. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 无锡市第一中学2024-2025学年度第一学期阶段性质量检测试卷 高二英语 2024.10 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 How mnuch is the shirt? 根据“The day of your visit”部分的“Each e-ticket bears the name of its owner.(每张电子票都印有其所有者的名字。)”和“We recommend arriving 15 minutes in advance so that you have time to make it through the security checks at the entrance.(我们建议提前15分钟到达,以便您有时间通过入口处的安全检查。)”以及“All the prices can be found on the e - tickets.(所有价格都可以在电子票上找到。)” 根据“Eiffel tower ticket prices”部分“Ticket with lift — The top floor, Adults, 29.40€(成人乘坐电梯到顶层的票价为29.40€)”,“Ticket with lift — The top floor, Children (aged 4-11), 7.40€(儿童(4-11岁)的票价为7.40€)”可知,一对夫妇带着两个8岁的孩子,因此需要计算2个成人的票价加上2个儿童的票价。 根据文章中的“Be mindful and carry minimal belongings such as your wallet, tickets, ID proof, and a water bottle. There is no left-luggage facility for non-permitted items, like wheeled suitcases, large luggage, non-folding buggies (童车) at the Eiffel Tower.(注意并携带最少的物品,如钱包、门票、身份证和水瓶。埃菲尔铁塔没有存放非允许物品的行李寄存设施,如带轮行李箱、大件行李、不可折叠的婴儿车。)”可知,因为埃菲尔铁塔没有存放非允许物品的行李寄存设施,所以游客应该注意安全,避免被盗。其他选项如“饮料不能带进电梯”、“您的包可以放在储物柜里”和“不允许使用可折叠的婴儿车”均与文章内容不符。故选A项。 B A new study has found that experiencing nature, such as taking a walk in a park or even just viewing photos of a natural setting, encourages healthier food choices. B 5. D 6. 根据第二段““We found that exposure to nature increases the importance that people attach to health compared to taste or other properties when making food choices,” explained Maria Langlois, assistant professor at Southern Methodist University and first author of the study.(南卫理公会大学助理教授、该研究的第一作者玛丽亚·朗格卢瓦解释说:“我们发现,与味道或其他特性相比,接触大自然会增加人们在选择食物时对健康的重视程度。”)” 根据第四段“One group were shown a photo of a hotel room with a window view of a natural setting while the other group had a window view of an urban setting. A third control group had no window view — they had closed curtains.(研究人员给一组人看的是一间酒店房间的照片,从窗户可以看到自然环境,而另一组人看的是城市环境。第三个控制组没有窗户,他们拉着窗帘)”可知,研究者主要通过分类来进行进一步的研究。故选D。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“With almost 70% of the world’s population expected to live in urbanized areas by 2050, this research could provide urban planners with important insight into the health implications (影响) of their designs. It is also hoped that highlighting benefits of nature may promote environmental conservation efforts as people realize we need nature.(预计到2050年,世界上近70%的人口将生活在城市化地区,这项研究可以为城市规划者提供有关其设计对健康影响的重要见解。人们还希望通过强调自然的好处来促进环境保护工作,因为人们意识到我们需要自然)”可推知,城市规划者将为未来的城市建造更多的公园。故选A。 C Most people enjoy variety. D 8. C 9. A 10. 根据第一段中“We often feel uncomfortable with people who practise different habits, or hold beliefs or values that we do not share.”(我们经常对那些有不同习惯的人,或者持有与我们不同的信仰或价值观的人感到不舒服。) 根据第二段“There are reasons for this. When we are exposed to new and different things, our brain works a bit harder than usual. When we’re learning, our nerve cells require more resources, such as water, salt, and various other chemicals. This extra metabolic (新陈代谢的) activity can feel unsettling and unpleasant. And it can feel worse if our nervous system is already under pressure, like in the midst of the pandemic.”(这是有原因的。 根据第三段中“The idea of “survival of the fittest” implies that individuals must vary. Some are more suited than others for a given environment, making it easier for them to survive, grow, and reproduce.”(“适者生存”的观念意味着个体必须有所不同。 故选A项。 根据文章大意以及根据第二段“There are reasons for this”(这个是有原因的)最后一段“Dealing with the vast variety of humankind can be demanding and even annoying at times, but it’s a good investment, sort of like exercise for your brain. When you meet someone who looks different or thinks differently from you, treat your discomfort as a cue to be curious and learn instead of a signal of a problem. Don’t hold the view that the other person should be silenced. Ultimately, this mindset can make you more flexible in adapting to challenging situations, and more adaptable to change.”(与形形色色的人打交道有时会很费力,甚至很烦人,但这是一项很好的投资,有点像锻炼大脑。 Discovering Your True Self Is Vital to Happiness! 【11题详解】 根据上文“Have you found focusing on yourself is at the bottom of the to-do list, because you feel everyone else in your life comes first?(你是否发现关注自己被排在待办事项清单的最后,因为你觉得生活中的其他人都是第一位的?)” 【12题详解】 根据上文“This isn’t just about identifying your favorite outfit, haircut or flavor of ice cream.((关注自己)不仅仅是确定你最喜欢的衣服、发型或冰淇淋的味道)”可知,本句与上文构成转折,指出关注自己的真正含义。 This isn’t just about identifying和G选项It’s about understanding构成句法上的转折关系。 【13题详解】 根据上文“There are many tools to help you develop a deeper sense of yourself, including journaling and other forms of creative expression. You can use a guided journal to explore your thoughts and feelings or just free write whatever comes to mind. It’s up to you what you want to do.(有很多工具可以帮助你发展更深层次的自我意识,包括日记和其他形式的创造性表达。你可以使用指南来探索你的想法和感受,或者只是自由地写下任何想到的东西。你想做什么由你自己决定)”可知,本段在陈述写日记能够更好地探索你的内心世界,但是仅仅专注于写日记就好, 不要去批判日记中自己的想法。此处的writing与F选项中journaling可以构成同义替换。故F选项“但是尽量不要陷入对你写作的批评或评判中”符合语境,故选F。 【14题详解】 根据后文“Take note of how you respond to people, what makes you happy, and what makes you unhappy. This can help you identify patterns that are holding you back, such as feeling insecure or being easily angered. Once you’ve identified these patterns, you can work to change them.(注意你对别人的反应,什么让你快乐,什么让你不快乐。这可以帮助你识别阻碍你前进的模式,比如缺乏安全感或容易生气。一旦你确定了这些模式,你就可以努力改变它们)”可知,上一段陈述了一种关注自己内心世界的方法,而本段则是在陈述另外一种方法,因此D选项中Another way is to符合并列的条件,且本句的意思也与后面的“关注自己在人际交往中如何反应”相符合。故D选项“另一种方法是观察你在不同情况下的行为”符合语境,故选D。 【15题详解】 根据上文“An often overlooked yet very important factor in self-discovery is having healthy boundaries in your personal life.(自我发现的一个经常被忽视但非常重要的因素是在你的个人生活中有健康的界限)”以及后文“Clearly communicating your boundaries is also a way to show others that you are in control of your own behavior and can expect the same from them. This is a sign of maturity and respect, two characteristics that are key to having healthy relationships.(清楚地表达你的界限也是一种向别人表明你能控制自己的行为,并期望他们也能做到这一点的方式。这是成熟和尊重的标志,这两个特征是拥有健康关系的关键)”可知,前一句陈述要划定一个健康的人际关系界限,后一句则提及和别人划清界限意味着你能够很好地控制自己的行为并且也希望别人能够控制好自己的行为,这种行为能够既关注自己也关注别人,故E选项“它能让你专注于自己的需求,而不会忽视他人”符合语境,故选E。 第三部分 语言运用(共四节,满分57.5分) 第一节 完形填空(共15小题;每小题1.5分,满分22.5分) At 33, I did something brave, or some would say stupid.
