We all know that it is important to protect(保护)our teeth. We'd better not

become bad.
In America, it is popular to drink sodas. About 90% of young people have
sodas every day. Most of them have more than three glasses of sodas every day.
About 30% of them have bad teeth. When they eat fast food or when they are
thirsty, they drink sodas instead of water. But sodas are sweet, and sweet things
can change into sour(酸的)things, and the sour things can make teeth bad. The
American scientists say that sodas are bad for teeth. It is not good to drink

Sam and Tom are twins. It is too hard to find their differences. When they
were students, Sam often helped Tom with the subjects. And Tom was very
thankful to Sam.
As they grew up, their father wanted to give all his money to both of them
equally (相等地). Sam thought it was a good idea but Tom became unhappy.
“I don’t agree. Let's have a game. If Sam is cleverer and stronger than me, he
will have all the money. If I am better, I'll have all the money,” said Tom. Then
their father asked the two sons to run as long as they could and they had to
come back home before sunset.
Both of the brothers started to run a long way on a sunny day. Sam ran
more slowly than Tom. At noon, he started to come back home. But Tom ran
ahead. He was far away from his home.
Before sunset, Sam saw his father and became the winner. As for Tom, he

If you have a brother or sister, you already know you are different. You
live in the same house and with the same parents, but you have different
personalities. Why is this? One reason may be the way your parents think of
you.
First-born children get more love from their parents. Most Families have
twice as many photos of a first-born than any other child. Parents usually give
first-born children more responsibility (责任) and ask them to look after
younger brothers and sisters. As a result, first-born children are often
responsible, hard-working and jealous (妒忌的). They often want to do well at
school and work.
When a second child arrives, parents are more relaxed. The second child
has to compete (竞争) with the first-born for parents and love. These children
often have different sports and interests to do well in at school and work, but
they must have a new way to get their family's care. They are often friendly
and cool.
13. What does the underlined word “personalities” mean in Chinese?
A. 长相 B. 性格 C. 体质 D. 资质
14.The first-born children are often _____.
