I try to be a good father. Cook my kids good dishes, and take them to photo shoots. But compared with Dick Hoyt, I suck. Eighty-five times he’s pushed his disabled son, Rick, in marathons.
This love story began in Winchester, Mass., 43 years ago, when Rick was strangled (缠住)by the umbilical cord(脐带)during birth, leaving him brain-damaged and unable to control his limbs (四肢). “He’ll be a vegetable(植物人)the rest of his life,” doctors told Dick and his wife, Judy, when Rick was nine months old. “Put him in an institution.” But the Hoyts weren’t buying it. They noticed the way Rick’s eyes followed them around the room.
When Rick was 11, they took him to the engineering department at Tufts University. Equipped with a computer, Rick was finally able to communicate. After a high school classmate was paralyzed(使瘫痪)in an accident, and the school organized a charity run for him, Rick said, “Dad, I want to do that.” How was Dick, a man who never ran more than a mile at a time, going to push his son five miles? Still, he tried. That day changed Rick’s life. “Dad,” he typed, “when we were running, it felt like I wasn’t disabled anymore!”
That sentence changed Dick’s life. He became obsessed with giving Rick that feeling as often as he could. They even decided to try marathons. “No way,” Dick was told by a race official. They weren’t quite a single runner, and they weren’t quite a wheelchair competitor. For a few years, Dick and Rick joined the massive field and ran anyway. In 1983, they ran another marathon so fast that they made the qualifying time for the Boston Marathon the following year.
Now they’ve done 212 triathlons and 85 marathons. “ My dad is the Father of the Century,” Rick typed.
4. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 2 mean?

Stephen Hawking was a British scientist, professor and author who performed groundbreaking work in physics and cosmology(安全), and whose books helped to make science accessible to everyone.
At the age of 21, Hawking first began to notice problems with his physical health while he was at Oxford—he would sometimes trip and fall—but he didn’t look into the problem until 1963. But when his father discovered the condition, he took Hawking to see a doctor. For the next two weeks, the 21-year-old college student made his home at a medical clinic.
Eventually, however, doctors did diagnose(诊断) Hawking with the early stages of ASL(渐冻症). It was devastating news for him and his family. Not long after he left hospital, Hawking had a dream that he was going to realize. He said this dream made him aware that there were still things to do with his life.
In a sense, Hawking’s disease helped turn him into the noted scientist he became. Before the diagnosis, Hawking hadn’t always focused on his studies. “Before my condition was diagnosed, I had been very bored with life,” he said. “There had not seemed to be anything worth doing.” With the sudden realization that he might not even live long enough to earn his Ph. D., Hawking poured himself into his work and research. On March 14, 2018, Hawking finally died of ALS, the disease that was supposed to have killed him more than 50 years earlier. The news touched many in his field and beyond. Lawrence Krauss tweeted, “A star just went out in the cosmos. We have lost an amazing human being. Hawking fought and tamed the cosmos bravely for 76 years and taught us all something important about what it truly means to celebrate about being human.”

An immersive and slow-paced Citywalk is becoming trendy across China. In contrast to rushing past overcrowded tourist landmarks, the new trend has emerged as a popular alternative to explore bustling markets, ancient streets, and charming alleys at a leisurely pace.
The appeal of Citywalk caters particularly to the younger generation often caught up in demanding work schedules. As evidenced by the increasing popularity of hash tags like “City walk for vacation” on lifestyle sharing platform Xiaohong shu, with a staggering 465 million views and nearly 464, 600 engagements, the trend is truly capturing unbelievable attention.
Citywalk, or meandering through the urban landscapes, means the act of walking freely along city streets unburdened by exhaustive plans. It offers people an avenue to intimately experience urban culture and local traditions. Citywalk is not merely about sightseeing. It creates an opportunity for social interactions and deep connections with the cities. Citywalk routes are tailored to the specific interests of both out-of-town tourists and locals. For tourists, the focus is on sharing local customs and traditions, while for locals, discussions revolve around the city’s past, present, and future. The growing trend of Citywalk reflects a changing attitude towards life, embracing a warmer, more relaxed, and slower-paced lifestyle.
As Citywalk expands beyond first-tier cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, to second-and third-tier cities across the county, it brings fresh opportunities for the tourism industry, in such areas as dining, shopping, and accommodation.
Governments in Beijing and Shandong have recognized the potential of Citywalk, incorporating it into their action plans to promote cultural tourism and leisure activities. In Shanghai, public bus lines specially designed have been introduced to elevate the overall Citywalk for participants.
“By slowing down and delving into the narrow alleys, observing the lives of city residents, and immersing oneself in the context of museums and art galleries, one is entitled to embrace the pleasure of life,” said Luo Jun, a cultural tourism enthusiast.
12. What’s the main reason for the popularity of Citywalk among young people?
A. It mainly focuses on urban sightseeing.
B. Social media offer many tempting videos.
C. Busywork schedule limits the choice of people.
D. Conventional tourist landmarks are losing charm.
13. What’s the meaning of underlined word “staggering” in the second paragraph?
A. Astonishing. B. Rewarding. C. Embarrassing. D. Shrinking.
14. Which of the following statements is NOT Citywalk?

B. A holiday travel to hurriedly visit crowded landmarks in Shanghai.

Tony and I were in our school basketball team, the Lions. We loved basketball and were both huge fans of the NBA. When we weren’t playing on the court, we were watching a game on TV. My favourite player was LeBron James while Tony’s was Tyrone Bogues.
Bogues was only 1.6 metrest all, which made him the shortest player ever in the NBA. Guess what? Tony was only 1.6metrest all, too! Tony knew that being shorter than other players meant that he had to practise more. During all those hours of doing jump shots on his own, he used Bogues as his inspiration. Tony once said, “If Bogues could make it, why not me?”
But our coach was not so sure. Tony had to tryout many times just for making the team. He was still usually on the bench(场边休息区) being just a replacement. Everyone knew Tony had real skills, and was someone who worked really hard and had a strong desire to play for the team. However, Tony didn’t get a chance.
This week, the Lions were playing our main competitors, the Bears, a team whose record this season had been perfect. They hadn’t lost a single game.
The last quarter began, and my team was behind by 10 points. Suddenly, a player and I crashed into each other. Pain raced through my body. My knee hurt badly. “I don’t think I can play anymore, coach,” I said quietly as the doctor put an icepack on my knee.
“No way,” the coach replied sharply. “We’ve got no more players!”
注意:
1.续写词数应为100左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“What about Tony?” someone suggested.

An immersive and slow-paced Citywalk is becoming trendy across China. In contrast to rushing past overcrowded tourist landmarks, the new trend has emerged as a popular alternative to explore bustling markets, ancient streets, and charming alleys at a leisurely pace.

Citywalk, or meandering through the urban landscapes, means the act of walking freely along city streets unburdened by exhaustive plans.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
He was still usually on the bench(场边休息区), being just a replacement.

【答案】“What about Tony?” someone suggested. But the coach shook his head. I also suggested letting Tony have a try. Then Tony himself asked the coach to let him try and promised that he wouldn’t let the coach down. Finally, the coach agreed. Tony jumped up and rushed onto the court. And clearly, all the extra hours that he’d spent practicing alone paid off. The other team just couldn't keep up with his energy and speed. He made shot after shot, and the crowd couldn’t stop clapping and cheering. When the game ended, our team had won by two points. A great sense of joy welled up in everyone’s heart. Surprised at Tony’s performance, the coach hit Tony on the shoulder and said that he’ d just earned his place on the team.
